Stupid things JWs say

ok we all say stupid things (probably on a daily basis in my case) but my mother (a jw) was told by another member that she doesn't have a conscience because anyone who smiles as much as she does simply can't have a conscience.

i bet you can guess the person who said it to her has a face like a wet weekend.. i guess the reasoning is: if you had a conscience you wouldn't have much to smile about because you'd be overwhelmed with guilt and worry.

That person is probably just jealous your mom is happy and she is not. Your mother should quote the scripture that says Jehovah is a happy God and the one that says "happy are the ones doing the will of Jehovah". She should say that if she is not joyful it would mean she isn't being blessed by Jehovah. The best defence is a good offence.

There are people like that wherever you go, but the JWs do seem to attract more than their fair share of them. I call them fun sponges, they soak up all the fun wherever they go.

Why Jehovah Does Not Want An Effective Preaching Work

so we all know how ineffectual the preaching work really is.

we also know how much the wts hypes up the scope and scale of the global preaching effort.

what the gb should be doing however is emphasising the ineffectiveness of the preaching work.

This is just wishful thinking on their part. They can see their is no urgency to the preaching work on the part of the rank and file, and that is costing them money because no placements, no donations. They are trying to do anything they can to motivate people but they are like the boy who cried wolf, people have heard ot all before, it gets harder and harder to get people scared.

And I dont buy it that people will go flocking into the religion if conditions are bad enough. Most people dont know what they teach anyway.

It's a slap in the face to those who contributed to and help build a kingdom hall that was close to them. I think some people will meekly accept it while others will not be happy to be so inconvenienced. I am sure some will figure out that it's more about the Watchtower's bottom line and less about the needs of the congregation.

Are There Good People Out There?

even though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.

for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.

i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

Thanks everyone for your comments eo far! I do know that not all non-JWs are "bad". I guess it's just hard to get that mentality out of your head when you've been taught it for so long..and of course "bad" and "good" is a very relative thing..

It's understandable you get thoughts like that because you have been in a cult that uses mind control. It's hard for you to see it at this point, but they do a good job of making people doubt themselves and fear life outside the organization. They are like sound bites that go off in your head, "worldly people are all bad" "the Watchtower is the only safe place", etc. It takes years for this to go away completely. Just hang in there and give yourself some time to figure out who you are as a person and what you need in a partner. Once you do that you will be in a better position to know the right person when you find them.

4 versions of Jesus resurrection- all different

i've been reading more and studying about the bible .

it was brought to my notice that out of the four different versions of jesus resurrection they do not back each other up.

instead they contradict each other a lot.

Saying the bible doesn't contradict itself is like taking a square peg and cutting it down and then using a hammer to force it to go into a round hole. And then you go around and telling everyone it fits, and if anyone mentions the gaps you tell them they aren't looking at it right.

Sorry, I don't buy it that there are benefits to being raised JW. Just because the guy you chose to get involved with did drugs, it doesn't mean every so called "worldly person" does them. There are lots of good, drug free people out there, and lots of JWs do drugs on the down low also. My husband was never a JW and he doesn't do drugs, nor do I.

everybody says there is this race problem.

everybody says this race problem will be solved when the third world pours into every white country and only into white countries.. the netherlands and belgium are just as crowded as japan or taiwan, but nobody says japan or taiwan will solve this race problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.. everybody says the final solution to this race problem is for every white country and only white countries to assimilate, i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.. what if i said there was this race problem and this race problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into every black country and only into black countries?.

mine are pretty simple;.

it was the day i married my beautiful wife of 49 years.

Best Day of my life: The day I flew to Denver to meet a guy I knew High school. I wouldn't date him because he wasn't a JW.After twenty eight years we connected up through classmates.com. He picked me up at the airport and took me to the Butterfly Pavilian near Boulder (large atrium you can walk through). He gone down on one knee and pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him.

Worst day. The day my sixteen year old daughter tried to slit her wrists. Fortunately the pain shocked her out of finishing, but it was a nightmare.

Welcome Alcyone, it's good to hear the RC hearings are waking some people up. After saying such reports are apostate lies they made themselves look foolish, since they couldn't dispute the fact that they do have a problem with pedophiles and their weak defence of their procedures being bible based were shown to be a questionable.

The closest they got to an apology was after the 75 fiasco. After misleading people by making them believe Armageddon would come in 1975 they said that "some" went ahead of the things written. No explanation as to who "some" people were, or why that did not make them false prophets. People sold their homes and lived on the proceeds (and were praised and held up as an example), others put off getting married or having children. The Awake said young people would have to accept the fact that they would never have time for a career in this system. After misleading people into making bad life changing decisions, they took zero responsibility for their mistake.

generally the vedas are to the east as the hebrew scriptures are to the west.

supporters of the bible, boast of it's scientific accuracy,prophetic accuracy & general infallibility.

Why are books considered sacred simply because they were written centuries ago? Most such books contain some wisdom, but it's usually wrapped up in a bunch of mumbo jumbo, which is to be expected of people who had no knowledge of science. It's like trying to use the users manual of an IBM selectric to fix your Apple computer, there may be a few things that apply, but it's mostly useless.
