There isn't shouting and chanting, because it doesn't fit with the Watchtower's concept of itself, but if the Watchtower wanted shouting and chanting, there would be shouting and chanting.

Conventions that are out of touch with reality
by Captain Schmideo2 inwatching the news from the past few nights, i have come to the conclusion that the only convention that's crazier and more out of touch with reality than a jw convention is a us political convention.the strange-o show that is going on right now in cleveland, oh makes watching a bunker video look more sober and realistic by comparison.i have made the effort to do my civic duties as a voter, but these conventions require a devotion that is fanatical..

Do you think any animals will ever reach human intelligence?
by EndofMysteries inif all life was truly random, then what happened that allowed humans to it's current intelligent state, do you think non humans could and will reach that in the future?

My cat gets food, water, toys, treats and cat nip on demand, goes in and out whenever she pleases and I even clean her litter box. I'd say she is already the smarter one.

I hope and wish that there is an afterlife, however I do not live my life as if there is. I wake up each morning and enjoy each day for what it is. I appreciate the beauty all around us.
Sounds like you are doing very well, this is a great way to live.

Racial Insensitivity

Apparently some want the expression "all lives matter" to be considered racist.
Well, yes some, just as some cops are racist, so what? That there are extremists in the movement doesn't invalidate the movement. While it isn't racist to say all lives matter, it does seem like an attempt to trivialize the BLM movement. It's not wrong for the black community to want to bring attention to this real problem by saying that black lives matter, they aren't saying or implying that other lives don't matter.
Assuming that the number is correct, do we take into account other statistics that show that black people are more likely to commit violent crimes? That 31% needs more context to be evaluated correctly.
Well, yes, we all know the statistics that black people commit more crimes, but pulling people over simply because of the color of their skin because statistically they are more likely to be involved in crime is racial profiling, and it's just plain wrong. It might make sense to the cops, but it's very unfair to the many innocent people that do get pulled over. The problem of driving while black is real.
I worked with a woman who lived in a mostly white, affluent suburb. Her husband was pulled over by the police four times in a year. There was nothing wrong with his car or his driving, he never got a ticket. He finally started wearing a cowboy hat and put a decorative decal in his pick up window and the problem stopped. Imagine if that were you, would you feel safe living in that community? How would you feel about the police? When you do get pulled over, would you not be just that much more afraid?
Things like this erode confidence in the police and may even be contributing to the problem. If you are a young black man who is struggling with the factors that make you more likely to commit crime (poverty, unemployment, peer pressure, etc.) , what effect does it have on you that the police already treat you as if you are guilty?
These are complicated issues that defy easy solutions, but racial profiling is not the solution.

Yes, police officers have a tough , dangerous job, and I think most of them are good people, but there is a problem with the way black men are treated by the police. Black people are 31% more likely to be pulled over than white people, and twice as likely to be searched, per statistics from the justice department.
I think the problem is a bit exaggerated by some people, but the problem is real and needs to be addressed.

How Many People are Living a Lie?
by awokenjw inone of the things i often wonder about at the meetings is how many of these people are actually living a lie or sinning in secret?
and more importantly, how do these ones stomach it?
in my case, i have secretly dated and done things disapproved by the wt with a pioneer sister in my congregation for years and we both go to the same meeting twice a week and pretend everything is perfect and nothing has happened.

Supposedly Jesus died to do away with the mosaic law and allow people to gain salvation even as inperfect beings, but the way the Watchtower does things you would think that never happened. I think the religion almost forces people to live double lives, they make so many rules and silly requirements that no one could possibly live up to the standards with the inevitable result that people end up feeling so guilty it adds stress and negativity to their life, making them even more vulnerable to lapses in judgment. This puts them on the guilt/repent/"vow to do better until the next time" roller coaster and this cycle keeps people occupied and not thinking about the failures of the organization itself.
If people had the freedom to use their own conscience as a guide then they could live a more balanced and sane life and would be less likely to crack and do really stupid things. And what if when people did make mistakes they were kindly helped instead of being judged, you know, like in any non cult religion.

But where else should we go? Can you answer this question?
by purrpurr inhaving watched many jc youtube videos one question that gets asked is "where else would you go?".
in other words if not jehovah's witnesses then what other religion or organisation would you go to?.
it's one that i have trouble answering, what would you say?.

Why does anyone need to go anywhere? How about just staying away from the influence of any religion, think about things for a while and see where it goes?

8.7 million animals? Pretty silly to think Noah could have gotten two of each kind, and since believers in the ark don't believe in evolution, they couldn't have evolved from just a few, not that there would have been enough time for that to happen anyway.
How could Noah have gotten all the animals in the first place? Some animals are only in very specific areas, koalas and kangaroos for example, did he go to Australia? What about the animals of the Amazon? Polar Bears? In the age before reliable land or sea transport, how could he possibly do that? how did he get the specific foods each animal needed? How would he even know what foods each animal eats? Koalas only eat eucalyptus leaves.
