More similarities with North Korea

other posts have mentioned the similarities between jws and n. korea with regards to uniformity of dress and grooming, backlash for criticism and being hard to escape.

I watched a documentary called State of Mind about two young gymnasts who were training for the Pyongyang Mass Games, it was very interesting (it was on Netflix at one time, not sure now). It did seem like North Korea was one big cult. These girls train for eight months to perform at the games, they feel it is a big honor and they must be absolutely perfect, it reflects on the entire family and they make a lot of sacrifices to enable the girls to perform. After all that their leader didn't even show up to watch the games.

Everyone is told the reason they don't have enough food is because the U.S. wants them to die, and they believe it because no one is allowed to say anything different. They are just as mind controlled as anyone in a religious cult.

The book of Mormon is a joke, full of anachronisms and errors. Large portions of it were copied from the King James Bible. In fact, errors that existed in the King James bible of the time were replicated by Joseph Smith, which would be expected if he just made the whole thing up, but hard to explain if it was actually dictated by God.

It claims that American Indians are descended from Semites, but DNA testing proves that they are actually of Asian origin.

It claims that many things existed in meso America, like blacksmithing, chariots and steel swords when none of them were at that time.

It describes animals that were not in the Americas at the time, like cattle, dogs, sheep, goats and elephants.

i know that it must seem silly to ask, but my brother and his family think that the big a will arrive before they die.

i tried to explain to my brother that everyone else who has ever lived in the past has died and only jesus has [physically] rose from the dead.. it is amazing that anyone could buy that line.

what crazy cult culture that could make people believe such nonsense?!.

Someone probably just hit dislike on accident ttdtt, it happens sometimes.

I converted when I was 13 in 1969, andI did believe I wouldn't die because we all thought Armageddon was going to come in 1975. After that I wasn't as sure and by the time I left in 1999 I had long since given up on the idea.

what sick fu... writing this article thought the the average person did this to keep kids quiet..

I remember this. I was shocked, but they said this was common in the world, I was too stupid then to know otherwise.

I'm Going to Break Up with My Boyfriend Today

so like the title suggests, i'm going to break up with my boyfriend today.

it's for several reasons, but mostly because i'm not prepared for a relationship.

i need to grow and learn what it's like to be me now that i'm not a jw and learn how to love myself so i don't make the person i am with miserable.

Good for you for recognizing that you need to be by yourself right now, that is a difficult but very necessary step to take in your situation.

Yes, it will be hard, yes it will be lonely. Sometimes it is only by going through tough times that we break through to be the person we are meant to be, there is no way out but through. I highly recommend meditation. I am always available through private message if you need a friend, I usually check in several times a day.

What novels have you been reading recently? Recommend any?

i've always been a bit of a reader - but only reading about topics i find interesting, e.g.

natural history, dinosaurs, etc.. recently i've started to select, buy and read novels.. this year i've bought and read frankenstein (mary shelly), dracula (bram stoker), the hound of the baskervilles (a. conan doyle), 'salem's lot (stephen king), jurassic park (michael crichton) and the firm (john grisham).. i have an inclination towards horrors and thrillers.. what fiction have you been reading?.

could you recommend anything?.

"The Stand" by Stephen King, but make sure you get the extended version. As an XJW you will thoroughly enjoy this book on a level that no other reader could enjoy and that even Mr King could not have anticipated.

I had a really weird experience with that book. This was around 1980, and I caught some really bad flu that was going around and got really sick, I was so bad I had to crawl to the bathroom to throw up. It just so happened the book was laying around and I started reading it, I was too sick to watch tv, but for some reason I could read that. I really felt like I was living the book, not just the JW thing, but that I had the same symptoms as everyone in the story. I thought for sure I was going to die but I was too sick to care. It was surreal, one of the strangest things that has ever happened to me.

The Biggest Mistake The GB Have Made In The Last 10 Years

i think the single biggest mistake the governing body have made in the last 10 years has to be creating jw broadcasting and putting their gb members on there... on a weekly basis too.. when i was a kid, i had no idea who the governing body were, what their names were or what they looked like.

there was one or two long term pioneers that knew the names of two of them but that was about it.. when i was about 10yo i imagined they looked something like this:.

ahh.... those learned men with a lifetime of bible knowledge just oozing out of their very hearts.

I agree, the worst move ever. Like you, I never knew who these people were and imagined they were deep, spiritual men. It's shocking to see the reality, just a bunch of simpletons with an inflated sense of their own worth. They have obviously had been treated like virtual gods for so long they lost perspective and simply couldn't imagine that the rank and file would not be dazzled by their brilliance.

I can only imagine what is going through the minds of current JWs as they watch the monthly dog and pony show. If I were still a JW I'd have to be asking myself some hard questions.

It's probably not the governing body, but it's probably written at their direction. I don't know how you could prove that, or why you would want to, what difference does it make?

ok not to throw no shade or no disrespect to the jw religion.

which i truly do respect because my girlfriend is part of but i just don't understand, i have researched so much about it.

so much about how its discouraged for her to be with me just cause of different religion.

I agree you should be able to love who you want. What you may not know is that the Jehovah's Witnesses are not a religion like any other religion. They are a cult, and controlling who you choose to marry is just one way they have of controlling you. I was a JW for 28 years, until I realized they were not what they pretended to be, so I left.

The problem is that your girl probably believes this is the one true religion and that if she doesn't do what they say she will die at Armageddon, which is happening any time now (and has been for over a hundred years). It's very hard to fight that kind of brain washing.

You are probably better off finding someone who isn't in a cult.

Coming Out To My JW Sister

now, i have been mentally "awake" for quite a while, but i'll just say march/april this year.

i won't go into detail about what it was that made me "realize" everything, so don't bother asking.. so, i've known for years that i wasn't like most girls in my classes, kingdom hall, and just in general.

from a very young age i had that obvious interest in the same sex, but seeing as i was seemingly the only one feeling that way i would brush it off and eventually i started getting interested in guys.

I am very happy for you that your sister took it so well and will not betray you, it must be a relief to be able to tell someone.

Be glad you realized that A) The religion is not "the truth" and B) you know you are a Lesbian. You are young and have your whole life in front of you and don't need to waste time in a religion you don't believe in or in relationships that would not ultimately be fulfilling.
