I told a co-worker I used to be a JW. She told someone else I used to be Amish. I laughed my A-- off when I heard about it. BIG deal to me, no big deal to anyone else.

Ever notice how interested worldly friends were to hear you'd left...zzzzzz
by Gregor inthe first few years after i got my head out of my jw ass i assumed that worldly associates would be fascinated to hear of my escape....wrong.
most of them looked at me like "what the f--- are you talking about?"...
"who cares?

My heart goes out to you. I was in the oposite situation - my hub was DF, I was the "good one". But it the same in the end. I could no long pretend and try to be the good witness wife. The changes that you are going through cannot be reversed. It's tough but there is light at the end of the tunnel. With me, it was ending the marriage. For you it may just be re-defining the parameters of the relationship. Only you can know what is best for you. But you know you can no longer go on as you were. Knowing that is half the battle. Hang in there.

Welcome Welcome. This is a diverse group, but what we all share is a history with JW's and a desire to heal from that painfull experience. I'd been out quite a while when I found it, but it still helped me. The newly x'ed will find it even more helpfull to sort things out.

Am I in some sort of phase?
by Inquisitor inwhy i am so obsessed with christianity?
i've been reading many books on religion and church history, which i would never have done before.
i'm consuming all this information but i don't know what the purpose is.

When I no longer belived in "The Truth", I felt it as a loss. I lost a framework that expained the world and the bad things in the world and made me confortable with it all. I greived for that loss and wondered if there was another religion that could replace it. I didn't find any other religion, and now I am reconciled to that. I developed my own spiritual self and grew as a person, and now I don't need fairytales to make me happy. It was a growth process that took about 5 years. If you enjoy your research, I see no reason to stop it, but realize that your spiritual self may not find a home in organized religion.

Any one enjoys gardening?
by greendawn inin the new ground floor flat that i purchased there is a garden area outside which is l shaped each leg being about 15 by 2 metres or about 50 by 7 feet (the rest of the outside is paved) and as the weather got better i planted a lot of the usual vegetables, aubergines, yellow peppers, tomatoes, courgettes, strawberries, cucumbers, runner beans a total of about 50 plants, and many flowers.
if all goes well i will not be buying much vegetables this summer.
i mixed in natural manure two months ago to give it time to get digested and hope i will not need to use any chemical pesticides.

We have a pond with water plants and fish and a waterfall. I love gardening, I have a lot of flowers and herbs. I plant a few veggies, tomatoes and peppers. The weather here is variable at either end of the season (we are expecting 8-18 inches of snow tomorrow), so it's always a gamble that the tomatoes will ripen before the first frost, but I always try as I love good tomatoes.

I used to love spicy 3 pepper hummus. Unfortunately it had a toxic effect on my system. I was in line at the grocery store when this first became known to me. One clerk sniffed the air and says "did you smell that??" The other one said she did, and they speculated it was a broken gas line. Fortunately for me it was quite crowded and I don't think anyone figured out it was me. I don't eat the hummus anymore out of consideration for my husband.

Would you have married a non JW

I wouldn't date this really nice guy in High School because he wasn't a dub. Married a total jerk dub and lived in misery for 30 years. Fortunately the really nice guy looked me up (Classmates.com) and we've been married now for 7 happy years. Beter late than never.

After leaving I began to live a normal life, celebrate the holidays, vote, become involved in my community. My circle of friends is much wider and I appreciate other points of views when I didn't before. I am more spiritual in a kinder, better, more evolved way. The JW way of life is constriced and narrow, with not much oppurtunity to change and grow as a person.

I once sat through a talk on music. The speaker was ranting on about the evils of the song "Mack the knife" . Sheesh, that song was from 1962. So what it was about a hired killer, it's just a song, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. My kids were teenagers at the time, and could frreakin care less about "Mack the knife' as they never even heard of it. They listened to Joy Division and The Cure. We all had a good laugh about it afterwords. They promised never to listen to "Mack the Knife" (a great song BTW).
