I went to many conventions at the Woodland Hills Facility in the 70's and 80's. I really liked that facility, except sometimes you would get lost and forget where you were sitting, as everything looked the same. Round and Round you would go. I'm glad they don't do Doger Stadium anymore - that was hell on earth, broiling in the sun, not enough bathrooms. And a huge walk from parking. Yuck.

Oprah's new Book Club selection - A New Earth - anyone here participating?
by poppers inabout 10 days ago she announced that eckhart tolle's book a new earth is her latest book club selection.
tolle will be appearing with her on a live internet feed for 10 consecutive mondays starting march 3. this is a great opportunity for those who are looking for the ineffable "something" else that they find lacking in their usual pursuits...
this isn't the usual kind of book that she promotes.

I read the book because of Oprah and I thought it was great. I plan to read it again and again. I feel it is an important step for me on my spritual path. Not everyone will get it, but many more will read it and get it than otherwise because of Oprah. I don't see the harm.

I went to my first ever caucus (in Colorado). Our precinct was overwhemingly for Obama. My husband and I also. I never liked Hill, she's an able politition, I like her views, just can't stand her. Just seems like samo samo business as usual. The more I see Obama, the more I like him, I think he has a chance. I liked McCain until he said going into Iraq was not a mistake.

To put someone down because they believe or do not believe in God, is as intolerant as the JWs. I left the JW's because I could no longer see everything as so black and white. It seems they have just switched from thinking everyone who wasn't a JW was an idiot, to thinking everyone who believes in God is an idiot (though they at one time believed in God). I don't do the memorial, never even occurred to me. But if it has meaning and relevance to some, then they should do it. Why that would offend someone, I don't get. I still believe in God, but my spiritual path has taken a different turn from basic Christianity. But I don't have all the answers, nor does anyone else. Live and let live

Own up time...
by Chalam inwell it looks like this site is a real melting pot, a broad spectrum of views and beliefs.
for sure there are many disaffected ex jws.
so in as few words as possible, preferably not more than one sentence, how would you describe yourself spiritually?

I get depressed this time of year also. I've been sick with a bug for 3 weeks now, so that's not helping. I find a B complex vitamin is helpfull. Works fast, but you have to take 2 or 3 times a day as it goes through your system quickly.

Things I Don't Get About Christmas
by Swan init's been a while since i've started a post.

i'm writing tonight because i feel like such an outsider at christmas sometimes.

I found as an ex-jw that it was quite liberating. I can pick and choose what things I do for Christmas. I don't have family traditions I need to uphold. I don't do the frantic mall " got to find a sweater for cousin Emily thing" . I like to decorate and cook - so I do. I If you don't like office Christmas stuff - don't do it. I also buy a gift for a child in foster care. I also contribute to the Salvation Army guys. If that's all you want to do for Christmas, then just do that. Christmas is what you make of it, no more, no less. "Let there be peace on earth, and let it start with me"

My dependable potluck receipe is Meatballs (purchased ready made from Costco or Sams), in a sauce made of grape jelly and barbeque sauce. Sounds horrible, but I did a party where I had Brie in crust and Smoked Salmon, and the meatball thingie. Everybody raved over the meatball thingie. The Brie and Salmon remained uneaten. A better, but easy treat , onion tart. Frozen puff pastry, folded out and topped with Bacon, onions, and a good cheese ( Like manchego - a spanish cheese), then baked. Or you could weinie out and bring chips or soda, like most guys at these things.
