I buy and sell on E-bay - not a lot, just getting started. There is generally more activity at the end of an auction. Someone else may have set up automatic bids, so that everytime you bid, their bid would increase to top yours, until either you gave up, or they reached their maximum bid. I suppose that some people do try to cheat the system, but I don't think it's all that common. I had one item that 2 people bid on and the price went up quite a bit during the last hour. They both wanted it and were bidding against each other. Other times, I got only one bid and the buyer got the item quite cheap. The problem with trying to cheat the system is, if you try to run the price up, people may just give up, then you are stuck, don't sell the item at all, and still have to pay a listing fee.

Heaven is a hot bath!
by JK666 ina few years ago, i took out my bathtub to help my elderly mother that stays with me and installed a walk in shower.
stand up showers are okay, but i miss taking a leisurely hot bath to relax.
this morning i woke up early, have time to kill, and am in a nice hotel.

Last year I went to visit my sister. It was a long drive and I hadn't been feeling well, so when I got there, she ran me a hot bath. She has a jetted tub with a picture window overlooking the California hills (They have 3 acres, so privacy isn't an issue). She lit some scented candles, put on some nice music, put out all her nice lotions and things and a big fluffy towel and left me to it. Quite one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

Hello, I'm new...
by IcingHeart ini just joined this forum today after reading the comments on today's watchtower (which i have to attend in about an hour unfortunately).
i was raised in "the truth" and it was only recently that i began to listen to a close friend of mine as he pointed out the secrets and lies that is the watchtower society and governing body.
even though he was informing me for almost a year, he never gave up on me.

Can you explain this?

The people here are mostly ex-Jw's. We have suffered for being in this religion. We have finally become free of this destructive influence and now are using this forum to work through issues we have with being a former JW, with others who can understand our feelings. Yes, it involves criticizing the religion, because for a long time, we could not even THINK these things, much less say them. It's a relief to finally express these things.

My fave, the Soylent green quote, has allready been, well, quoted. So here are a few others:
it's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst ...
And then I remember ... to relax, and not try to hold on to it. And then it flows through me like rain. And I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. Don't worry ... you will someday.

Here's something to remember when you're older Thomas - never pass up a bathroom, never waste a hard-on, and never trust a fart.

APOSTATE TROUBLE MAKERS.........
by nomoreguilt inare a very unique people, wouldn't you say?
no, we aren't trouble makers, we're just a a people that have a common bond.
save for a minority of posters here, we have all endured trials and tribulations that only we can relate to.

The label of apsotate doesn't bother me. It has no meaning or relevance to my current life. It no longer has any negative connotation to me. If others choose to think of me that way, it's no skin off my nose. I think they are deluded idiots, but I feel sorry for them because I was once a deluded idiot. Out of the totality of all the things I am, ex-Jw (or apostate), it just a small part.

Since we know the economy is in a crisis, how are you budgeting better?
by Layla33 ini thought it would be useful if we discussed ways we have tried to budget better and also save, and even be greener, if that is something you care about.
i have noticed substantial differences in my saving and budgeting and i am hoping maybe we can learn from each other.. food.
i did a sum of all the money i was spending going out a few days a week for lunch, and i just realized how much i could save by making my lunch and buying soups on sale for lunch for the week.

I have a small business, and the downturn in the economy has impacted it a lot. I don't rely on it for my sole support, however I have changed my spending. I think and re-think any new inventory I buy. I started using coupons when grocery shopping - I can save as much as 30% on my bill using coupons and loyalty card savings. I drive less, combining my errands. I took a few shifts at my friends's restruarant to get a little spending money. I don't buy books, we have a great library here. I've gone to mostly thrift stores for my clothes, you'd be surprised what you can find there. Fast food is a rare thing now, both for reasons of economy and health. I gave up bottled water some time ago - it's bad for the environment. It's actually be a good experience, learning to be more resourcefull. As a couple, we have cut down some on eating out, but not given it up, as this is our one splurge. My hubbie is a saver and good with money, but he likes eating out. And he won't give up his latte's - it's his one vice. It's a quality of life thing with him. He rides a bus to work, isn't into fancy cars, sports or the usual guy toys. It's all a matter of balance. It's about living within your means.

Living With Limitations
by choosing life injust curious how some have handled living with disabilities.
what do you do when you can no longer do what you want?
how do you learn to focus on the things you have left and not what you must leave behind?.

I have Fibromyalgia, which though not severe does limit me in many ways. It's nothing compared to what others have to deal with, but it does have an impact. I try to focus on what things I can do. I try to stay positive, as being negative only makes things worse. I find meditation and journaling helpfull, as well as anti-depressants, vitamins, massage therapy and accupuncture. After many years of working full time, I got laid off and now I have a small business. My husband supports me financially, but after years of supporting myself, its hard to accept that at this point I cannot. So sometimes I push myself to make more money in my business, and then regress back on the fibro. It's a constant battle.

I think sometimes people miss things about the "old life", like some friends or family, or just being part of a group and feeling secure with that. As time goes by, most people make new friends and connections and don't miss it as much. As for me, I'll go back when people in hell are wearing ice skates.

Has anyone read the book 'The Shining'?
by lfcviking ini'm not much of a reader really, but i'm halfway through reading this book at the moment and i am really enjoying it.
stephen king has such a wild imagination, he really is a truly talented man.. i loved the film aswell, i think jack nicholson's acting in this film is sublime.
jack's acting combined with king's imagination, and stanley kubrick's directing combine to form a true masterpiece.. any other fans of this book/film?.

Saw the movie, didn't read the book. I've been to The Stanly hotel in Estes Park Co, where Stephen King stayed and wrote part of the book. I did read The Stand in the 70's. At the time I had the flu, really bad (couldn't even walk), and the book was about an experimental flu virus that got out and killed 97% of the earths population in a few weeks. I felt like I was living the book. Very surreal.
