I'm a granny. It's weird. I live in another state from my grandson, but if I lived there, I wouldn't miss something like that.

Is this weird behaviour for a Granny?
by Princess Daisy Boo ini know a couple of you jwd'ers are grandparents and even if you aren't - i would still like an opinion - is this odd behaviour?.
my little boy is in grade 00 at a local school and next week tthursday morning, they are having a concert for the grandparents.
when i told my mom in law, she immediately pencilled it into her diary and confirmed that she would attend.

At the advanced age of 53, I got braces on my teeth. The bummer is, my teeth are not even crooked. I still have two baby teeth (my eye teeth) and the permanent ones are still up there. So, as the baby teeth are falling apart, I have to have 2 years of braces (plus oral surgery) to fix this issue. They are actually going to try to bring the permanent ones down. Expensive, painfull and invconvenient. When the dentist first suggested this, I thought he was crazy. But I finally came to the conclusion that this is the best way. So I am a metal mouth.

What Was The Silliest "Offense" That You Were Counseled For?
by minimus inwhen i was a teenager, i was told by an elder that because i smiled a lot and was known for my good sense of humor, that i should come across as "more serious".
so before i was appointed a ms, while in my late teens, i transformed myself into a much more "serious" brother.. were you ever told that you needed to work on something that you knew was stoopid?.

I was once counseled for letting my child give a friend a lifesaver candy. "We don't eat in the hall". This, despite the fact that an elder always had candy to give out to the kids. In my time as a flaky JW, I did many things that probably I could have been counseled about, but didn't, so I didn't get this one.

fluff alert - ridiculous ostentation
by Hortensia inso around here i often see a stretch hummer.
i think that's going pretty far in the direction of ridiculous ostentation.
a stretch suv is bad enough.. .

Ridiculous 4,000 or 5,000 Sq. ft. "McMansions", ugly boring boxes, filled with fake "Tuscan" decor all made in China and so cheap and shoddy, they fall apart when you touch them. But it doesn't matter because no one ever touches them, beacuse they are just to fill up those huge, ugly houses, not to actually be used for anything. It's depressing.

Just an introduction
by ataloa ini have been a lurker for a few months.
my story is not uncommon, just the usual "skinned and thrown about like sheep without a shepherd".
the many different viewpoints have helped me sort things out in my own mind and gone a long way toward the healing of my heart.. just wanted to introduce myself and express my appreciation for this site.. ataloa.

I collect Roseville pottery and a few other things. I have a small collection of pottery baby shoes (I think they were originally used for floral arrangements). I have a small antique shop so I buy a lot of other things, but mostly I just buy for resale, but I couldn't sell the roseville. Most have a few chips, but I don't mind. I am proud that today I cleaned up my basement. It's my workroom for my antique business, so it gets pretty cluttered with junk. Flipper, I used to leave not far from Lake Tahoe (east of Sacramento on I50), so I love that area. Today I leave in Colorado and hike in the Rockies, but I sure miss California.

Will Remarrying Lead to DFing?
by compound complex inthe wtb&ts states in this or that circumstance* the offended jw may separate or divorce but never remarry.
neither can the discarded mate remarry.. what could the local congregation do if they learned that either one of the above (faded, ex, whatever) remarries?.
*one's physical or spiritual life (usually that of the wife) is endangered; one (always the husband) refuses to provide for one's family, .... thanks,.

I knew of a situation where an Elder who had a disabled wife claimed that she had admitted to him that she had commited adultery years before. He was able to divorce her and marry his ex-wife's nurse, who just happened to be much younger and attractive. The wife was too ga ga to confirm or deny the story. Even the most credulous knew it was all a crock so he could get rid of the inconvenient wife and get the new young honey.

Worst Kingdom Melody lyrics- your votes?
by JimmyPage inmy votes for worst kingdom melody lyrics: song 125- "jehovah is on my side" (try singing these lyrics without laughing like beavis and butthead): "i know that in this crucial hour my faith will yet be tested/ around me swarms the devil's crowd like bees that were molested/ but i can ever beat them off beneath divine protection/ on those who love to bear his name god sets his deep affection.
" or how about song 201- "rejoicing with god's nation" (grab your thesaurus for this one): "in a land so good and spacious/ free from strife and things vexatious/ look!
a happy crowd vivacious/ in god's service that is efficacious.

I remember as a teenager we were singing the dirge "Firm and Determined" and a friend of mine whispered in my ear - "Just like we used to sing at the Gestapo!". I was cracking up the whole meeting and trying not to laugh out loud.

Who lets it be known that they were once a JW?
by lfcviking ini am curious, for those of us here who have left the jw org, who actually lets it be known to people that they were once a practicing jw.. for me, this is something i tend to keep quiet because it is something i'm not particularly proud of.

I tell people I know. Some people think less of me, I think, because of it. I don't care, I'm not ashamed. I did the best I could with what I knew. As they say, when I knew better, I did better.
