Not sure what to do next

i'm 19, and i'm still currently a jw.

i guess i'm a born-in, or whatever you guys call it.

i've had some serious issues with the faith at the moment, and sexuality is a huge part.

It took me until I was 45 to figure out the things you have figured out at 19. Just keep doing what you are doing, get your education and live your life, those who would tell you what to do aren't you, and don't know what they are talking about. The dubbie view on homosexuality is one of the things that convinced me the WTBTS was full of It. It's not like you chose to be gay, although the WTBTS seems to think you do. It's like saying only blue eyed people can live in the new system, its completely arbitrary. Those who say you should live a celibate life aren't gay, they have a way to express their sexuality with out being condemned, you do not.

Well, You have figured all that out, it's just that you have a few years of cult mind control to overcome. Intellectually you know the WTBTS is just the opinion of a few old farts in Brooklyn, its just that it will take a few years to totally get rid of the feeling that you are doing something wrong, but you will. I hope you have a great life and find a wonderful guy to settle down with someday.

Wow, that is impressive. Even if he is not selected, what an honor to be a candidate. My grandson is 18 next month and plans to go to college. I was surprised to find out he wants to get a divinity degree, and be a minister. His parents are not religious, my daughter was raised a JW, but never became one (for which I am profoundly grateful). His dad was raised Seventh Day Adventist, but doesn't practice. My grandson attended with his other grandmother, and went to SDA schools his entire life. He has been mentored by the youth pastor. I am not crazy about SDA, too close to JW, but it wasn't my decision, and he seems to be thriving, and is a mature and responsible kid. His goal is to have his own non denomination church someday, which tells me he is not locked in as SDA. While it is not Harvard, I am sure far from it, I am proud that he is doing it on his own with scholarships and loans. My JW mother is probably rolling over in her grave, but I am happy he is spiritually inclined. His mother attempted suicide several times as a teen, and his father got kicked out of two schools for fighting, so I had some concerns as to how he would turn out, I would never have hoped he would be the happy, well adjusted teen that he is.

Interesting Genetic Research Published on Dog Evolution

it is work that gives more evidence to support the fact of evolution.

a team of swedish scientists led by evolutionary geneticist erik axelsson from uppsala university have identified genetic changes that could have been responsible for the transformation of wild wolves, into the ancestors of our beloved pet dogs.

Labradors may be the most popular breed of dog, but the most populous kind is no breed at all. That distinction goes to the humble village dog scratching out a semiwild living in and around human settlements.

While a postdoc at Cornell University a few years ago, Adam Boyko became curious about the little-studied village vagrants. Though dogs were first domesticated 20,000 to 15,000 years ago, most breeds go back only a few hundred years. Perhaps village dog DNA might shed light on the long, early history of domestication, when canines were hanging around humans yet not under our domain. But how to get samples?

As it happened, around the same time Boyko's brother Ryan had married, and he and wife Corin were looking for a cheap honeymoon off the beaten track. The three Boykos decided to merge their two quests. Adam—now at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine—obtained a grant, then enlisted Ryan and Corin to spend their honeymoon traveling around Egypt, Uganda, and Namibia, befriending villagers and local vets. They collected DNA from more than 300 village dogs.

When the samples were analyzed, most of the village dogs turned out to be as closely related to wolves as they were to fully domesticated dogs. Rather than being mixed-breed mutts that had gone feral in historical times, the village dogs had been eking out an existence on the human fringe for millennia. Their genomes thus reflected a state of early domestication, before artificial selection and inbreeding directed by humans had taken over. "When you are looking at village dogs," Adam Boyko says, "you have something more akin to natural selection, albeit in an environment that's managed by humans."

I saw something recently about a book, the book was pictures of people that looked just alike even though they are not related. They showed examples and it was really crazy how much alike two people can be. I guess there are only so many facial features to go around. We all probably have our own doppelganger somewhere. My daughter ended up looking like me quite a bit, my grandson ended up looking remarkably like his uncle. I really never thought he looked like my son until he hit puberty, then his face changed and he even has the exact same expressions. I keep calling him my son's name by mistake.

I bought this last night and have already finished it. A good read, very good, couldn't put it down. It captured the culture of the JWs perfectly, but something a non JW could understand and and enjoy also.

I have a Kindle, I think I will check this out. I always liked these kind of end of the world type stories, which is probably why I got sucked into the Jaws. I loved The Omega Man and Soylent Green.

hello everyone, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.. i am a mid 30's just stepped aside elder, who just couldn't handle it anymore.. i am a 3rd generation born-in and former pioneer and bethelite.

it has been a log somewhat confusing ride for me, but i am finally settling in to realizing that i need to really look at what me and my family are doing.. .

its funny though what really got me here... it wasn't the 40 year old men telling me they were looking at boobies on the computer and hoping not to get in trouble, it wasn't the watching young people bail left and right, it wasn't the ever changing new light etc... but a simple thought.. .

Welcome. One of the things that makes no sense to me is that back in the day (pre 75) I was told that "this good news" must be preached in all the inhabited earth before the end comes. I was told that every person would be given a chance to accept or reject "the truth" before Armageddon. They said Jehovah would "speed it up in his own time". It seemed this might be so when the org was growing. And it has grown quite a bit since then. But many countries have grown far more than the JWs have. So the vast majority the earths population has never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses, and even in the US, most people have no idea what the Witnesses teach. This seems unlikely to change. So how could a loving God kill everyone on earth when they don't know him, or know why they should serve him? It is not logical that people would be killed because they were born in the wrong country.

hello, i am new and i feel soooo wrong about being here.

anyway i am an m.s and have been disillusioned ever since the new understanding that came out in october.

i have read many things on this board that i have and also have not thought about.

Welcome. I have been out a while. One thing that bothers me about the GB being the Faithfull and discrete slave is, on what date were they appointed as such? I asked this on another forum and no JW could answer me. If Jesus returned invisibly in 1919, then who was appointed as the FDS ? Rutherford? Russell was already dead by then. Rutherford was a mean drunk by all accounts, can you imagine him being appointed by Jesus Christ for anything? The Governing Body is a recent arrangement, it's just that the whole thing doesn't seem to track. I apologize if this has been laid out in the literature, I haven't read the Watchtower in a while.

Interesting. I have always been somewhat interested in this case, I lived in El Dorado County when Jacy was kidnapped. And I now live in Contra Costa county, where she was found. For some reason, I always thought she was alive, although I have never felt that way about any other, similar case. I think mentally ill people sometimes use religion as a focus for their deranged thinking, an as an excuse for self involved, sick and horrible behavior.
