  Why would anyone want to join jovie world?

  i can understand why someone who was born of jovie parents would want to leave jovie world.

  i can see why someone who had joined jovie world would want to leave.

  after all, why would you want to stay in such an evil institution?.

  You need to stop using that term, it's insulting to use a derogatory name that is not known or used in the JW world or the ex JW world. You can call us JW, Ex JW or dubs or ex dubs.

  I don't know why anyone would join these days, but I think their message does appeal to people who are looking for answers to life's difficult problems, as it seems to present a solution. They say don't worry about death, disease and the bad in the world, Jehovah is going to fix all that, if you just do what we say. They sometimes get people who are going through a difficult life event or crisis. At first it can seem very appealing, promises of an idyllic life on the earth.

  The problem is it's a cult that uses mind control techniques to keep people enslaved. I know it's hard for people to understand if they haven't been through it, but the people that join are not stupid, just maybe naive and idealistic. Once they have you they keep you by constant reinforcement. That is why they have to go to four hours of meetings a week, plus door to door work.

  They don't tell you about the things they do when you join. You have to study with someone for quite a while before you get baptized. Even then I was told that only people who committ very serious sins and are who are unrepentant and refuse to stop will be disfellowshipped. This was not at all true, but I didn't find that out for years, by then I was too brainwashed to leave.

  Of course when I converted it was back in 1968, there was no internet and no easyway to check things out, plus I was only 13. I was attracted to the idea of living on a restored earth. My sister who was ten years older than me converted and that is what got my parents and I interested.

  I think the internet is making it very easy for people to see what they are getting into, so they are not seeing the growth like they used to.

  Music

  we would all agree that music whatever its form or genre, speaks to us, maybe a favorite childhood nursery rhyme, maybe dads music,etc.

  a lot of us where shut down to such wordly things, some were not.

  music has always helped me in hard times, that song, that artist, that let's get moving stuff, what speaks to you, its not a cure all, but what do you like?

  I like folk rock, Celtic, some pop, some alt. Right now I am listening to meditation music, it helps me sleep better if I do that for an hour or so before bed. It also helps calm down the cat, she gets the rips in the evenings sometimes. She will actually come up and ask me to lift up the blanket so she can crawl under, chill out and listen to the music.

  having a dark night of the soul

  i'm writing this here because i need someone to talk to, and you're the only folks i know who will understand.

  most of the time i think i'm a pretty happy and together person, but lately, i'll see something that reminds me of my family and i'll spontaneously start crying.

  i miss them so much and my heart keeps breaking, and even though i have kind people i work and volunteer with, i feel so incredibly lonely sometimes.

  ((Hugs)) Miss B., so sorry you are down right now. I have had problems with the black dog (depression) myself. I hope it hasn't been going on too long, if so you need to get help. It's understandable that you would feel down, it's rough losing family, but there are ways to deal with these things and move on with your life. Time is a great healer, so keep that in mind.

  What helps me is being creative, exercise, volunteering, journaling and meditation.

  I have a small business fixing up old furniture and selling antiques. I don't make a lot of money, but if I don't have a creative outlet I don't feel right. Do you have a hobby or interest you would like to explore? Have you thought about volunteering? Helping others is a great way to feel better, plus you meet nice people.

  I highly recommend meditation. It's good for anxiety and depression, plus a lot of other things. I went from blood pressure of 140 (high normal) to 115, it also helps with my ADHD. Here's a website that has a quick how to:

  Journaling also helps with depression. You just sit down and write what ever is in your head, a few pages every day. I don't know how it works, but it does.

  Is this the fruit of evolution? Is this what lurkers should look forward to? Dark days in sad thought with no hope?
  I see no benefit to atheism.

  This is just one person, and one person who is going through a difficult transition, so don't read too much into it.
  

  Something either is true or isn't, the benefit of it doesn't really make a difference in whether it is true or isn't. It's your life, if you want to believe in something because it makes you feel better, then you can, and many people do, and I personally don't have a problem with it. But I can't believe in something just because it's makes be feel better.

  That being said, I have a wonderful life, and feel joy every day. The idea that this life is all I have has made me work harder to make every moment count. I have my bad days just like anyone, but I don't let it get me down. I went out to see the sunset today, it was beautiful and I enjoyed every minute. Not believing in God does not mean you are doomed to a joyless existence, not at all.

  Something isn't true because we want it to be so, nor are things untrue because they are hard to accept. Your parents live on your memories, so write them down for your children and grandchildren to have.

  I have made my peace with the fact that I won't be around in twenty or thirty years. I plan to make that time count and hopefully leave the world a tiny bit better for my children and grandchildren. You can leave a lasting legacy by teaching your children and grandchildren to be good human beings, helping your children and grandchildren to get an education and by volunteering or in other ways bringing your gifts to the world.

  As Ghandi said, You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

  Wouldn't making it easier for pedophiles to stay and prey on childrendirectly cause the WTS to have a higher percentage of them than other religions?

  It could be, but I was thinking that if you are looking at the population as a whole, x percent are pedophiles (I am not sure of the actual number), then you look at those who were born in or converted, the likelihood is that the same percent are pedophiles. (Unless you can make a case that pedophiles are more drawn to JWs than other religions, which would be a stretch, imo).

  But Jehovah's Witnesses are more likely to be involved and active with others in the congregation than people in other religions, so you could make a case that JW pedophiles have more opportunity to meet and connect with vulnerable children within their own congregation than do members of other religions, which then gives them even more incentive to be active in the religion. Pedophiles in other religions probably have less incentive to to stay and be active in their church in order to find victims, unless they are in a position of authority. But they are still counted as members of that church, even if they rarely attend, while JWs are not counted unless they are active publishers.

  So while I don't know if you can say there are a statistically higher percentage of pedophiles in the JWs, I think you could probably make a case that the guy sitting next to you at the Kingdom Hall is more likely to be a pedophile than the guy sitting next to you in church. I just think you need to be careful in making statements about child sex abuse that can't be proven, as it can be counter productive.

  The realization that Armageddon wasn't coming anytime soon had there for quite a few years before I also realized that none of it was true, so it wasn't a big shock that I was going to die. But losing my faith was hard. The Watchtower belief system is a way of explaining all the bad in the, world, a security blanket of hope that was suddenly gone. I felt a loss and it was hard realizing that there were just bad things in the world and no one was coming to fix it.

  To Furkano: I was 45 before I wised up, that was fifteen years ago. Since then I have gotten married, traveled, started my own business and met many great friends. If I die tomorrow it all would have been worth it. Whatever time you have, it's well worth it, a year or twenty years, life is what you make it.

  Demon Stories

  so we all know that "crazy" brother or sister.

  every kingdom hall has one.

  they give the best comments (from a hilarious perspective), have experiences with the "demons", but most importantly, they are on about 10 deifferent kinds of medications.

  I knew of a very odd brother that used to do a lot of street witnessing on his own, I guess no one would work with him. He was disfellowshipped, so I asked my dad why, he said because he heard voice, so they knew he was inviting demon attacks. I asked my father if he could just have been schizophrenic, he said no, it must be demons. This was a long time ago, but not so long they couldn't have know hearing voices was a sign of mental illness.

  I was also thinking about my daughter, who had mental issues as a teen, eventually she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (she's fine now though). If you didn't know her well you might think one of her meltdowns was a demon attack, she would go from normal to out of control meltdown very quickly, say very alarming things, cut herself, etc. It was really, really scary. I wonder how many JW teens with borderline personality disorder have parents who think they are demonized?
