Gordon Lightfoot
by RAYZORBLADE inok, if you're a canuck, chances you know that gordon lightfoot is about right up there with ol' jehover!.
but if not, nevermind, but i have to admit, i have been a lifelong fan of: gordon lightfoot.. this evening, i took his 'greatest hits' and gave it a listen, and as expected, i was still enthralled with his lyrical genius, and playing abilities.. anyone a gordon lightfoot fan?.
just curious.. all your folks living along north america's "great lakes" keep in mind, next month is the 28th anniversary of the sinking of the "edmund fitzgerald".. that song, by gordon lightfoot is haunting from beginning to end (over 6 minutes).. i personally love: go-go girl in love, bitter green, canadian railway trilogy, sundown, race among the ruins, wreck of the edmund fitzgerald, and well i like just about every damn thing he ever did.. your contributions?

I love his music, my husband is a huge fan also. Whenever we see singer guitarists playing that kind of music my husband will ask them to play the Edmund Fitzgerald, but they usually can't because it's too hard. -

Do you consider this site Godly or Ungodly
by Truthexplorer inover the years, i have seen a change in heart with the country i grew up in and the general view of what they perceive as how everyone should view things in relation to morality.
a strictly religious country for centuries now forever changed within a short number of years.
i have also seen the viewpoint on this site gradually change in many ways.

I appreciate that you took the time to post here. It seems you don't want to hear what we had to say, but for the lurkers here who feel the same I will try to address some of your points.
strictly religious country for centuries now forever changed within a short number of years.
Yes, there have been changes. Rape and domestic violence are now treated as a crime, not a right. Women have access to birth control and can choose when to have children. Divorce is now an option, people do not need to be trapped in bad marriages. Racial discrimination is no longer legal.
those who even suggest that God has Got things wrong, that his son Jesus would not have such a opinion,, that the bible is nonsense etc. oh come on...think about it!
I don't think God has gotten things wrong, I am just not convinced he exists. Trust me I have this a great deal of thought, it was not a decision I took lightly. I wanted there to be a God, I really did, but the evidence just wasn't there. I cannot believe in the God of the bible anymore than I can believe in Krishna.
I now feel this ever since a certain event took place that absolutely confirmed everything I need to know that this world is now completely gone mad.
Please, do tell what event has convinced you the world has gone mad? While there is a lot of bad things that have happened I also see reason to hope. People have been predicting the world would end for centuries. I guess they are bound to be right some day, but I'm not betting on it this time.
There is no balance anymore. It is now from one extreme or the other. complete liberalism or inhumane extreme intolerance
Intolerance is out there, just as extreme liberalism is out there. The reality is the majority of people are somewhere in the middle, so the odds are the laws and the world will stay somewhere in the middle. You may not like where that middle is, but you might want to consider that it is you that is on the wrong side on a few things, not others. just a thought
A lotl of people seem to be getting their undies in a bunch because gay people can now be married. I have a hard time understanding how someone else's right to marry the person they love hurts or affects me in any way. You have the right to practice your religion, but not the right to force others to adhere to your religion. That seems fair to me.
There lies the hope and the inner peace you will truly find.
You are making an assumption that I don't have inner peace, when the reality is I am a very happy and peaceful person. Realizing that the Jehovah's Witnesses were not God's channel of communications was the best thing to ever happened to me. Realizing that God doesn't exist freed me from a lifetime of guilt. Don't be mistaken, I am still a moral person, I just don't need religion to tell me that I am a horrible, sinful person who needs to be saved. It turns out I wasn't lost to begin with.

Have you had Dreams Lately ? Do you get Meanings from your Dreams?
by flipper inbeing very interested in psychology i read a book as a teenager and re-read it last year called " gestalt therapy verbatim " by frederick perls m.d.
ph, d. .
it deals with dreamwork therapy in which he conducted seminars helping people to re-connect with subconscious parts of themselves by recounting their dreams .

We all dream every night, it's just that you forget them unless you wake up within a few minutes of the dream. If you meditate you will go through a phase where your dreams are much more vivid and you remember them better. It goes away after a while, but if you stop meditating and then go back to it it happens again. It's really great while it lasts, some are almost like a movie, with a plot and various characters.

This is just horrible, disgusting behavior, it's like these people have no moral compass or true sense of right or wrong. They are letting those clowns in New York keep them from showing basic human kindness and compassion. I think if I was going to be treated like that I would just skip the whole thing all together.

What would happen if you drop a fake check or bill in the donation box?
by StarTrekAngel inwhat would happen if we started dropping fake check or bills inside the donation box of an assembly?
i know, is a crime, but so is pushing someone to not accept blood and die.
would it help skew the numbers enough if enough of us did it?.

Dear brothers,
I am sorry to tell you that I am unable to donate any funds to the Watchtower for this convention. You see I lost my job and I can't seem to find another. These days there are a lot of people with a four year degree who are competing for the same jobs I am, and of course they get hired before me. I was told when I was young that I wouldn't have time for a career in this system of things, so of course I didn't go to college.
In addition, it has come to my attention that many of the funds that I contributed to the worldwide work in the past have instead been used to settle child sex abuse lawsuits. In fact, it seems you would rather pay millions than change your policies, provide legally required discovery documents and testify when served with a subpoena. As a Christian, I cannot in good conscience support this kind of thing.
I know you have lots of expenses related to your new building project in Upstate New York, but as the elders told me when I lost my job, you just need to rely on Jehovah, he will provide.

In your opinion: What would a teacher of the English language say about the way Anthony Morris III speaks?
by LogCon inconsidering the language, wording and grammar of anthony morris iii, if a teacher on the english language, at a prestigious university were to analyze anthony's public speaking, what comments and conclusions would they come to?
i say public speaking, because i would assume that an individual would be more careful with their words when spoken in public, than in private.
serious comments would be appreciated, however, i realize that outlaw and a few others are probably on a page of their own.. .

I showed my husband part of Letts introduction and he thought it must be a parody, lol.
I have to say I was somewhat shocked seeing the Governing Body members speaking for the first time. It's hard to believe they lead a religious groups of millions of people. They aren't good speakers, don't seem to reate to the audience, don't seem especially spiritual and are just plain odd.
These guys wouldn't get appointed to an assistant pastor position in a small church in a Podunk town.

Why would anyone want to join jovie world?
by Doltologist ini can understand why someone who was born of jovie parents would want to leave jovie world.
i can see why someone who had joined jovie world would want to leave.
after all, why would you want to stay in such an evil institution?.

Are you still in?
Also, we now have the internet and, thank goodness, forums such as this one. Why do you think people still join jovie world?
No, I have been out for a long time, but I was in for thirty years
You need to stop using that term, it's insulting to use a derogatory name that is not known or used in the JW world or the ex JW world. You can call us JW, Ex JW or dubs or ex dubs.
I don't know why anyone would join these days, but I think their message does appeal to people who are looking for answers to life's difficult problems, as it seems to present a solution. They say don't worry about death, disease and the bad in the world, Jehovah is going to fix all that, if you just do what we say. They sometimes get people who are going through a difficult life event or crisis. At first it can seem very appealing, promises of an idyllic life on the earth.
The problem is it's a cult that uses mind control techniques to keep people enslaved. I know it's hard for people to understand if they haven't been through it, but the people that join are not stupid, just maybe naive and idealistic. Once they have you they keep you by constant reinforcement. That is why they have to go to four hours of meetings a week, plus door to door work.

They don't tell you about the things they do when you join. You have to study with someone for quite a while before you get baptized. Even then I was told that only people who committ very serious sins and are who are unrepentant and refuse to stop will be disfellowshipped. This was not at all true, but I didn't find that out for years, by then I was too brainwashed to leave.
Of course when I converted it was back in 1968, there was no internet and no easyway to check things out, plus I was only 13. I was attracted to the idea of living on a restored earth. My sister who was ten years older than me converted and that is what got my parents and I interested.
I think the internet is making it very easy for people to see what they are getting into, so they are not seeing the growth like they used to.
