Are You No Longer Interested in the Arts?
by compound complex ingreetings, new friends and old:.
i've been here some nine years now and have learned a lot.
made many dear friends.

Yes, I agree there isn't a lot of now JW related topics anymore. The few times I posted such things there wasn't any response, so I don't do it anymore. I enjoyed your senior moments thread though.
I am not up on all the arts, but I do enjoy browsing art galleries and museums. I went to Santa Fe a few years ago and wouldn't you know it the Georgia O'Keefe museum was closed, I've always been a fan and was looking forward to it. I also tried to go to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art a while back and it was closed for remodeling. I did get to the Denver Art Museum, they opened a whole new building about seven years ago before I moved from there, that was pretty good. The building is very unusual, it looks sort of like a big ship.

My husband often can't come up with the names for things, and he expects me to read his mind and know what he means. Strangely, sometimes I actually do. He once said he wanted this dessert, couldn't remember the name, but he made a circle with his hands and I knew he meant creme brulee. But when he starts a conversation with "Remember that time we went to that place and did that thing?" I have no clue. He couldn't remember the name of these puff pastry cookies he likes so he called them "air biscuits", so now we just call them that.
I don't have that but I have ADHD, so I sometimes have trouble remembering to do things, or misplacing things, and it seems to happen more often now that I am past sixty. I have to attach my Keys to my purse or I would constantly be losing them. I only buy earrings at garage sales because I lose them so often.
Getting old is rough.

Court denies summary judgement for Laurel Jehovah's Witnesses congregation
by OrphanCrow incourt denies summary judgement for laurel jehovah's witnesses congregation.
a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

The Watchtower doesn't seem to care all that much about privacy in judicial committee matters. The elders share information among themselves, Bethel is notified, the congregation is notified that wrongdoing has occurred by the individual in cases of public reproof or disfellowshipping, even if they are not told the particular offence. They used to actually announce the transgression, they only stopped that when it got them into legal trouble, even then they would have a local needs talk soon after on the particular sin involved. It's often the case that elders tell their wives what happened and it becomes common gossip in the congregation. On the other hand, the Catholic church actually believes in the sacredness of the confessional, for a priest to betray privacy is considered a very serious transgression.
The Watchtower just doesn't want anyone in or outside the congregations to know they have a problem with child sex abuse and they would rather put children at risk than notify the proper authorities. They don't really care about priviledge, it's just a legal maneuver to not suffer legal and financial consequences for their stubborn refusal to do the right thing.

I just felt finished reading Combating Cult Mind Control by Steve Hassan. If you haven't read it yet I would encourage you to do so. At one time he was in a cult, so he really understand what is going on with the thinking. He has helped hundreds of people to break free of cults. In the first edition of the book he didn't mention JWs, he didn't know they were a cult, but the latest edition specifically mentions them.
Basically, a direct approach where you try to prove the religion is wrong just never works. Never, ever. Even if they have doubts, a direct confrontation just causes the defenses to kick in and they will shut down. This is why they talk so much about us "mentally diseased apostates" it's a phobia instilled into every JW, saying anything negative about the organization causes the fear to come up and you will lose them every time.
It's better to work on building the relationship, gaining trust. Every person that is in a high control religion has two personalities, the person they are because of the religion and the natural personality, try to connect with the natural personality. Talk about things outside the the religion, what she wants to do in her life, her dreams for the future, that kind of thing. Bite your tongue if you have to, but don't talk about the JWs, especially at first. When you do get to that point, ask questions to get her to think, and so you know what her doubts are, work on that.
Good luck

Thanks for checking in. I'm sorry your family is still being stupid, that's their loss, but I know it still hurts. It's too bad they can't appreciate you for what you are, a courageous young person, living your life in the best way you know how.
If you were my son I would be very proud.

Aspeger's syndrome, ASD and Autism - How do you know if you have it?
by KateWild inon another thread i was asked by fadetoblack about my asd.
sorry ftb i didn't respond, but here is your post again and i will respond on this new thread.. i'm curious to know how you know you were born with asperger's syndrome.
it seems to be extremely hard to clinically diagnose, but popular to self-diagnose.

Interesting point Fade to black. I don't have Aspergers, but I do have ADHD. I don't consider it a completely negative thing, it can make some things more difficult, but it also gives me some unique perspectives. At my age (61) I have learned how to control the more negative aspects of it and use my different brain in ways others can not. I have set up my life in such a way that it's rarely a problem, although I do have to work at it. I have learned coping mechanisms, I meditate and exercise, which helps my jumpy brain slow down a bit.
I would say that if you are happy and your condition is not hurting anyone else, then don't worry about it. Some of us are just square pegs and we will never force ourselves into that round hole no matter what we do, so why try? Go with your strengths and don't worry about the expectations of others.
But there are some with this condition who don't function well at all, and I hope science does come up with some answers for them.

by sherrie11 inhttp://www.smh.com.au/nsw/i-want-to-go-home-13yearold-phelicity-sneesbys-dying-wish-20160130-gmhky4.html.
this article is sad.
but what amazes me is her jw family is accepting donations or has to resort to the very worldly people they look forward to being destroyed.

They would never, ever give money to an individual, because they don't want the rank and file to think that anyone's needs are more important than the preaching work. They also know the elders would then be deluged with requests for help from others in difficult circumstances.
Of course there is always money for fancy suits, watches and first class travel for the governing body.
James 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?

A philosophical question .... what does the word God mean to you personally ?
by Finkelstein into myself it means to seek knowledge and understanding of are selves and the world in which we live.. unfortunately history has shown whenever one tries to connect to god and of his knowledge through men who say they themselves are connected to god through spiritual wifi ie.
gb members of the jehovah's witnesses for example, one usually ends up finding a accumulation of only man's acquired knowledge.
over thousands of years of trying to connect to a god(s) for help and answers, mankind has eventually relinquished himself to seeking answers through scientific investigative acquired knowledge of the world in which we live in.

God was someone that I had a one sided relationship with for thirty years. I decided that was long enough, if he wanted to have a relationship with me, he had to put in a little more effort. Fifteen years later I'm still waiting, I guess he wasn't interested.
