  WT-Says Moms Should not Work

  the feb 1, 2008 wt has an article on p. 28 called finding fulfillment as a mother.

  the article basically states that moms should not work outside of the home but stay at home with their kids to teach them things about jehovah.

  it also states that moms that want to work outside the home full-time do so not out of economic necessity but to boost their self worth, to obtain financial independence or to pay for luxuries.

  But the ultimate slap in the face is the part where they claim that many secular jobs that women obtain are not as good as the ones men occupy. It says that the jobs many women obtain are monotonous and relatively low paying in comparison to the adventurous jobs of men.

  Well, this got me thinking. While I would not classify their jobs as adventurous (neither is mine, BTW), the women I work with do pretty well. Our directors of Finance and Human Resources are both women. We have women who are project managers, project design leaders and senior firmware designers. I have 6 test engineers that work for me - 2 contractors, 2 senior test engineers and 2 principal test engineers. The two principal test engineers are women.

  My husband is reading about the initial fulfillment of the last days....

  that happened in 70 ce... i guess it has 2 fulfillments.... i'm drinking a beer right now, not in the mood for this conversation... mostly i hear, bla bla bla bla bla....... he's trying to figure something out... i asked whether those scriptures had 1 or 2 fulfillments... anyone know???.

  Hey Cognac,

  You and your hubby can meet up with my wife and me and we can "reason" with him. ;-)

  If he really wants to get into all that signs of the last days business, I would recommend he read "Sign of the Last Days - When?" by Carl Olaf Jonnson.

  Do you consider your time as a JW wasted time??

  many of us have devoted a lot of time and energy to the jw's at the expense of other things like education , planing for retirement , family time just to name a few.. i don't consider it all wasted time there was a lot of good i learnt however i'm doing things now as a jw i never would have.. i don't have the same time pressure and never fell guilty about taking a lot of time out for myself as one elder said to me"if we don't keep you brothers real busy in the work of the kingdom you get swallowed up by the world" .

  Absolutely not! It would have been wasted if I had wasted it. It would have been wasted if I had not learned from it. The waste of that time should end when we leave and move on. We should take and cherish whatever was good and true and learn from whatever wasn't.

  Besides, If I had never been a JW, I could never have been an 'apostate' and wouldn't be here.

  Do you have to speak out to be DF for apostacy?

  i'm a bit confused.

  i've been worried that i'm going to be df for apostacy because i no longer believe core jw teachings.

  i don't have an intention on protesting or strirring things up, but i'm worried because i will not lie to elders if they ask me what i think about things (in a shepherding call).

  Wait - you said this was sent to the CO's? Not the normal elders? Would they be aware of the position on this?

  The CO's generally share the substance of letters like this with elders as needed.

  When I was approached by the elders after I had stepped down and was in the midst of my fade, they asked me what was wrong. I told them "I don't want to get into it" and would not budge from that. It worked - they left me alone. Well, until I sent out my letter ;-)

  michael porter was not a jw while he was abusing children apparently!

  someone i know whos mum is a jw said that her mum told her that alot of jws had written to bethel to ask why porter had not been disfellowshipped by the org and apparently they have been told that he was not a jw when he actually abused the children and that when he was asked to be an elder he was asked if there was anything he would like to confess to which is when it all came out , the org have also said that it was all a long time ago so thats why they did nothing !

  well the man that abused my child had abused other children "a long time ago" but it did not stop him doing it again .

  does anyone on here know if it is true that the org are telling members that he was not a jw at the time he abused children because i believe he has been one all his life?

  Michael Porter, 38, used his trusted position as a prominent Jehovah's Witness to prey on youngsters, many of them children of members of the church.

  A respected member of the church in Somerset, Porter regularly babysat for youngsters, took them on holiday and invited them for sleepovers at his home.

  This is a few years back, but I thought you might find it interesting. I know this was still the policy when I stepped down in 1995. It's from a 9/1/1980 letter from the WTS to circuit and district overseers:

  Keep in mind that to be disfellowshiped, an apostate does not have to be a promoter of apostate views. As mentioned in paragraph two, page 17 of the August l, 1980, Watchtower, "The word 'apostasy' comes from a Greek term that means 'a standing away from,' 'a falling away, defection,''rebellion, abandonment. Therefore. if a baptized Christian abandons the teachings of Jehovah, as presented by the faithful and discreet slave, and persists in believing other doctrine despite Scriptural reproof, then he is apostatizing. Extended, kindly efforts should be put forth to readjust his thinking. However. if, after such extended efforts have been put forth to readjust his thinking, he continues to believe the apostate ideas and rejects what he has been provided through the 'slave class,' then appropriate judicial action should be taken.

  This is not to say that you or the elders should go on 'witch hunts,' as it were, inquiring into the personal beliefs of your brothers. Rather, if something reasonably substantial comes to the attention of the elders along this line, it would be appropriate to make a kindly, discreet inquiry so as to protect the flock. We cannot overemphasize the need to be cautious, discreet and kindly as such situations are dealt with.--James 1:19, 20. _

  As a current elder (about to be former), the most that I say you can do is to live meaningfully and successfully once you exit. That will be the greatest signifier to them that "hey, you don't crumble and die once you're on the outside," and that there is a life to be lived and you have the power to make it productive.

  Amen! Living well is the best revenge :) I'm a former elder & pioneer. I still live in my old hometown. I frequent the local Panera on Saturdays where my old JW friends take coffee break while they are out doing the D2D. I want them to see that I am still alive and well. I've been out for 10 years now and I'm amazed at how old and tired and haggard my old friends look.
