  Here is one example of the favorable "light" the WT speaks of the U.N.

  The UN Declaration
  of the Rights of the Child:
  The right to a name and nationality.
  The right to affection, love, and understanding and to material security.
  The right to adequate nutrition, housing, and medical services.
  The right to special care if disabled, be it physically, mentally, or socially.
  The right to be among the first to receive protection and relief in all circumstances.
  The right to be protected against all forms of neglect, cruelty, and exploitation.
  The right to full opportunity for play and recreation and equal opportunity to free and compulsory education, to enable the child to develop his individual abilities and to become a useful member of society.

  It is interesting that out of about 40 search results for the U.N. on their website, I didn't notice any NEGATIVE about the United Nations, as we usually see in the Watchtower/Awake! mags. The whole point is not that they are necessarily recommending the U.N. organization, they have loyally been fulfilling their obligation as an NGO by helping disseminate info favorable to the U.N. cause!

  Note:
  CRITERIA FOR ASSOCIATION

  WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION

  a) The NGO must support and respect the principles of the Charter of the United Nations;

  b) The NGO must be of recognized national or international standing;

  c) The NGO should operate solely on a non-for-profit basis and have tax-exempt status;

  d) The NGO must have the commitment and the means to conduct effective information programmes with its constituents and to a broader audience about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets; organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; or enlisting the attention of the media;

  e) The NGO should have an established record of continuity of work for a minimum of three years and should show promise of sustained activity in the future;

  f) The NGO should have a satisfactory record of collaboration with UN Information Centres/Services or other parts of the UN System prior to association;

  g) The NGO should provide an audited annual financial statement, conducted by a qualified, independent accountant;

  h) The NGO should have statutes/bylaws providing for a transparent process of taking decisions, elections of officers and members of the Board of Directors.

  the wicked evil smurfs

  when i was young, there was a rumor through out our circut, that the smurfs were demonized.

  we were told at once to destroy all smurf toys, dolls, and figures.

  there were storys flying around about talking smurf statue figures, that would get up and walk across the floor, ect... does anyone remember this, or did it only happen in my part of the world?

  A Note From Maximus To You All

  many of you have wondered where maximus has been the past while and i would like, with his permission, to fill you in on a few details that will shed a light his recent sabbatical.. maximus and others have been working for some while on his book which i can assure you will bring some very interesting information regarding wts issues into the public arena.

  without giving too much away, the book will be unique in the sense that it will embody theology with personal experience and present a helping hand through the process of challenging wts theology in a practical way, to establishing a meaningful and fulfilling life after the wts, if a person so chooses to walk this path.

  many who know maximus personally will validate the fact that he has a vast fund of knowledge and experience of wts life and that he wishes to use this to heal rather than to further enflame.. the book which is still in its embryonic phase, will be the first of a number of projects developed by a new publishing company to aid those who are undergoing crisis in their lives, whether theologically or emotionally.

  For Any JW Who Doubts The WT/ UN Connection

  we've all seen the scathing things wt has printed about the un over the years but in the last few yrs there has been a change in tone when they speak of the un at times.below i provide an example of this courtesy of dec 8,2000awake.. i made some quotes bold print.as you read notice the complimentary tone and the spots where un photos appear.those were probably obtained as a perk with their membership.. ask your self,is this any way to speak of the scarlet colored wild beast?

  part of saten's org?if you can look at the magazine.it looks like a propaganda piece.. the problems of children.

  I remember reading something about the Watchtower handing out literature regarding spousal abuse and possibly the plight of children (can't remember more details) in conjunction with their Milani Technology Park property in Hawaii. Has anyone seen any literature published by the Watchtower that is neither Watchtower or Awake!, but is provided as a public service? It would likely be pro-UN and designed to appease the UN. We need to find more of these.
