WT and AW Issues You Just Couldn't Place
by AvailableLight inhaving just read the donut shop thread, i was reminded of the typical way my fellow publishers and i would deal with hard- or impossible-to-place issues of the watchtower and awake!
magazines.. one in particular that comes to mind is the issue of the wt, released around the late 80s or early 90s, that depicted a close-up facial shot of an old man with tremendously bushy eyebrows.
my friends and i affectionately dubbed him "pubic brow.

The worst one was an Awake! in the late 70's that was something like, "Do Negroes Smell More Thsn White People? (I'm paraphrasing). I was assigned to an all-black congregation (Linwood) in East New York, where there were NO white people at all. Going door-to-door with that would have been a riot. (literally) :-))

"Answering Jehovahs's Witnesses" comm...
by Xander injust saw a book titled "answering jehovah's witnesses: subject by subject" by david a. reed.. i did a quick search through the forum, and didn't see any posted comments of it (using the forums fairly limited search capability).. has anyone read this?
any good?.
this *sounds* exactly like what i would need to get my bro out - a doctrine by doctrine analysis of why the jws are wrong.... so, any good?.

It is good but light reading. If you want a comprehensive doctrine-by-doctrine, you might check out "Refuting Jehovah's Witnesses" (by me) at:

Circuit Assembly Bklyn NY -Saturday 4/6/02
by worf inmy sister went to the circuit assembly this past weekend here in bklyn ny.. they had a young sister on the platform helping to promote pioneering.the interesting point about this is that this young sister is attending college full time and actually said this in front of the audience.she brought out that she is going to college full-time and that since she "has only one more year left, she will wait to pioneer when she is in her last year of college because maybe then it probably won't be so hard.
" these were her exact words.. i find this to be very interesting.
those of us who have done parts or experiences or talks for circuit assemblies know that each talk and each part is scrutinized in practice sessions prior to the assembly in front of the circuit overseers.

and what one-in-a-million would have the energy for getting a good grade in college, having a roof over their head, going to all meetings and having Bible studies, PIONEERING, and not have a nervous breakdown? :-))

This is the way it should work.
by seven006 infor those of you who have been on this board for a long time and have grown tired of the little wars i think there is something that might give you a bit of comfort.
in the past few days there has been an exchange between mark (outonalimb) his wife julie, lark, myself and a few others.
it stated out with a post by mark (a fairly new poster 52 posts in all) saying a few things to larc in an obvious negative vein.

Good post Dave. I've faced that a few times myself in the past. It's easy to forget we are real vulnerable persons in an online situation.

from:

Contributed by Working Assets
Sexual abuse is perpetrated by all manner of people on those that are powerless or are too trusting. It is in no way specific to one church or to religious institutions. It festers and continues when those who abuse are not reported and prosecuted. All too often, religious leaders, when confronted with abuse, enter into confidential financial settlements that leave the community unaware of the crime and the perpetrator free to abuse again -- sometimes harming dozens of victims.
The accounts that have come out of the Roman Catholic Church's sexual abuse scandal are horrific. But what adds to this horror is that religious leaders of all kinds -- priests, ministers, rabbis and others -- are often excluded from laws that require doctors, social workers, child care workers and the like to report suspected abuse to authorities.
It is time for the religious exemption to end. Laws are currently being debated in many states, including Massachusetts and New York, which would require religious leaders to report abuse or be subject to prosecution. Most such proposals specifically provide for the confidentiality of information gained in privileged conversations such as confession. States that do not require church officials to report suspected child abuse must immediately put such laws on the books, and those individuals that violate existing laws should be prosecuted.
Child abuse is not specific to any one religion or denomination, and the behavior of a few has damaged the reputations of thousands of upstanding religious leaders. Recent revelations have focused on the Roman Catholic Church, with dozens of priests reassigned and one bishop resigning for past behavior.
However, the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church, while expressing regret and sorrow, and promising to do better in the future, has not done remotely enough. The church should set an example by immediately adopting a policy of reporting suspected abuse and it should support the introduction and passage of reporting legislation in states where such laws don't yet exist. The first obligation of society and the church must be to protect innocent children from exploitation.
Call to action
Urge Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, the President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, to act immediately to protect innocent children. The Conference should set an example for all religious organizations by urging legislators to support passage of legislation that adds all religious figures to the list of those who are required to report suspected child abuse.
