This a bump from an old thread.
Rumblings of layoffs began in 2002, and began in earnest in 2006. Here in 2008 the layoffs continue. My cousin mentioned in my post above, is being sent home after ~20 years at Bethel. He and wife were given option to serve "where the need is great" but decided to return home (his wife never liked Bethel). There are still others being released.
I don't know if this is part of the original 1,000 - 1,500 targeted, or a new round.
Funny how the Org works. Laying off employees over a 6 year period, eliminating middle management (Bethel Elders), selling off property, settling lawsuits out of court, special campaigns ad nauseam, doctrinal changes...and they try to act like everything is fine.

this is a collection of confidential letters from the watchtower society that were sent to the bodies of elders in the years 1981 through 2006. these are the letters that you were never meant to see or read.. there's all sorts of information in them ranging from the boring and mundian to instructions about how to handle child molesters.. many thanks to darth frosty and others (who i'm not sure can be named) who worked very hard and took risks to collect and scan the information.

the idea for this thread was sparked by seeing that a lot of guys thought that the latest km article would be a great talking point.

a few games on my wishlist are mass effect, call of duty 4, assassin's creed, and of course halo 3. so many of the game trailers look good, i can hardly wait for the releases.
i've pre-ordered too many games, i'll be broke by the end of the year!.

he said on the last day of this year's dc when the final speaker goes through all the reports & experiences, the speaker said next year's dc have not been planned yet and the gb will make an announcement later this year.
did anyone else hear a similar announcement?
Thanks for the replies and link to the audio. I just thought it strange, the usual announcements regarding future DCs were along the lines of, "Would you like to know about next year's DC? You will be pleased to know the GB has planned 3-day DC for the yyyy-yyyy service year." Between the lawsuit settlements and pending France tax decision, I think the WTS is waiting to see if the smaller DC venues are more profitable. It would not surprise me if they changed up the current annual 1-day SAD, 3-day DC, 2-day Ass'y; maybe gatherings one weekend every quarter or something along those lines. Something else "exciting" for the R&F in addition to the public/private WT.

how is it that when your hall wants to build, you recieve the "loan" from the society, but then you have to pay the loan back with intrest??!!.
