By using an ND filter (probably two stop here) the sky would have been toned down and the entire image properly balanced. But I hear you on experimenting. Is just so much easier when shot correctly rather than fixing it in Photoshop.
Anytime you have a tripod, you should set the camera's ISO on the lowest possible setting for any kind of landscape shooting. There is no need for greater speed unless shooting wildlife or something moving in the image. Noise can be an image breaker.
Though the newest professional DSLR cameras have basically fixed that problem nowadays. The Nikon D200 has really addressed this for example.
But you gotta pay up to get it.

HDR photography anyone? (pics inside)
by Jourles indoes anyone employ hdr(high dynamic range) photography in their bag of tricks?
in a nutshell, you take several photos of the same scene but at different exposures - from dark to very light(your aperture needs to remain exactly the same).
you then merge them together.

Fear of athiests
by changeling ini seemed to have missed some of the excitement from last night.
but i wanted to post my observations.. it seems to me that some have an irrational fear of athiests.
it's as if they fear we are evil people that are out to destroy their faith.

It's all good, my brother.
Peace to you and yours,

HDR is definitely becoming more widely used today. But I have still found success taking just one photo at a time, properly exposed. Also HDR needs specific conditions to work. For example a windy day can make any kind of landscape impossible since you need all three images to be theidentical. Any movement will cause a loss of sharpness for that particular portion of the image. You must use a tripod as well... obviously.
I amost always use a tripod and always bracket three images at a time. One at a normal exposure, and then two others; 1/3 of a stop in each direction. Still, I have never found the need to combine the three into one. There has always been one of the three that was close to perfect for that particular need. Some today actually prefer HDR for sunsets or images with bright clouds. Still in my opinion, using a neutral density filter accomplishes the very same thing without all of the extra work and risks of combining the three.\
Now, using the very same technique to create a panoramic, by capturing a series of images from one side to the other, and then stitching them together for a rue panoramic is smashingly successful for many photographers today. I may join in doing that soon, once I make the switch to digital. But with film, it's a real pain of a process. Scanning makes it very time consuming and challenging to get first rate results.
Good luck with your shooting! -

Dave, I was not talking about disrespect on that thread of yours. I was answering 5go's claim that atheists have never been debunked.
Sure, I can be a little rough on the atheists (what 5go calls thick... I guess). But read the entire threads and take a little look at what Vinny was called.
EVERY NAME IN THE BOOK.
I never used foul language. Though I admit I was hard on the atheists at times.
But those were atheists filled threads and they were mowed down one after another. Just read it for yourself when you have a week.
But look how rarely I come on here doing the atheist debate thing.
I'd prefer to keep it that way. You know, work some, go for a swim, work some more, come to the JWD and talk about music or funerals or other things less time consuming.
Some atheists here do nothing BUT make issues of belief in God.
And THAT is the problem!

NVR says:..."Vinny ! LOL! You ask for respect and tolerance and then you say you "roughed up" some atheists and "it wasn't pretty". LMAO!
**** Poor NVR, he has little interest in READING so it seems.
From page one, just for NVR:
NVRENDJRNY SAYS:.."My philosophy is to live and let live. If you believe in Jehovah, Jesus, Allah, Krishna, or whomever, that's fine. Good for you. I won't criticize anyone for it as long as they respect me and everyone else who doesn't share their beliefs.
**** Vinny replied: "Now why can't many of the atheists here adopt this piint of view? THAT is very reasonable IMO. And that is what others many are suggesting."
Nvrendjrny said:.."But if you try to push your beliefs on me, I'm not going to take great pains to frame my response in a way that won't be offensive to you.
**** Vinny replied again: "Agreed again. Which is exactly why I have spent months (literally) debating with atheists in numerous threads. Atheists were very disrespectful and then paid for it. But life is more than debating with anybody; JW's, Atheists, Political debates or anything else. "
This is why there is a bit of a call going out, by many, to show a little more respect for divergent viewpoints.
And this is a reasonable request since the JWD is not about ANY ONE PARTICULAR FAITH OR POINT OF VIEW.
Respect and tolerance is a good thing.***** Remember better NVR?
When atheists are disrespectful and belligerent (as is the case often enough... and as was the case on those threads) then they will get what they deserve.
And yes, that would include many spankings, as you well know.
You see, NVR is doing all kinds of three step shuffles here to avoid the real issue. That issue is about being tolerant of others beliefs.
Thread after thread and post after post by atheists is anything BUT respectful or tolerant of different viewpoints. Not all, but MANY.
And that is the heart of the matter here!

**** I will read it later on. But if theists started disrespectfully attacking atheists, without provocation, then I'd feel the very same way about them.
This is about MUTUAL RESPECT...
FOR ALL SIDES.
I am happy that atheists are happy. I am happy that Buddhists are happy. ETC ETC...
Just a little more tolerance is what's being asked for by other people.
I did not start this thread nor any of the atheist threads I was a part of. In each case the atheists were very rude towards theism. That attitude is what caused me to get harsh and rough up the atheists while I was there.
But who wants to do anything like that for a living?
Not me.
Again, I will read that thread soon and send you a PM.
But some respect and tolerance is all that's been asked of here.
I just do not see any problems with asking for a little more of that!
