My mother always ground her own hamburger with a mechanical hand grinder. I thought, "okaaaay..." but she was right.
Mom was right a lot...except about the WTBS.
I read recently to use butter when you salt and pepper a prime rib or roast, and to finish a steak with just a bit of butter. Makes sense to put it in the ground beef.

@ biometrics: I have that movie in the queue to watch. I have a friend who has been after me to watch it.
I've been aware of the issues with the meat industry since the late 70's, was vegetarian with a BF for a number if years. I'm not ready to give meat up at this point, but eat it in moderation. My family does love their red meat though.

I'm not sure I ever had buffalo...or is it Buffalo?
All I can say is I would from time to time become a victim of a Big Mac attack. But noooooooooooo more.
Bleech!

That sounds delish Mrs. Jones. Wish I was in the neighborhood.
(Hoping I don't get yelled at for going OT ) I have a new obsession. I have always been a rare roast beef gal, but DNCall convinced me to try the brisket at his local deli. He was right and now I want to cook brisket ALL the time. A-ddicted. So much flavor. Which brings me back to the topic...I guess brisket is the cut used for corned beef, right?
Do you use a slow cooker for the corned beef?

Kingdom Hall remodel - scam
by Dagney ini was wondering from any here in the know, does it seem like there is a lot of "remodels" going on?.
in the last week i had the occasion to talk with two jw's in different halls, about 10 miles apart.
they both are undergoing major remodels.

I have a JW friend that is an inspector for the state in a certain phase of construction, structural. He was part of one of the assembly hall remodels a few years ago. He is still complaining about the negligence on the job. He can tell you exactly what the weak points are of the construction and what is going to happen in what period of time. He's been schooled in his line of work but nothing can overrule a volunteer RBC overseer.
This has turned out to be a very interesting thread. My business mind completely understands these decisions by the corporation. The corporation's goal is to continue to exist and all decisions are made in its best interest...it is delusional to think it is anything other than that. Having control gives it the best means to succeed.
I know they have to exert the pressure on the "flock" to maintain control...but it just angers me. There are so many facets to this scam, the control, the money...but what I find most despicable is the scam on the people. The implied grandiose-ness of the work keeps people on a never ending cycle of self flagellation to keep up with everything, with the hope of gaining approval and avoiding "destruction" thus losing out of "everlasting life" (TM) due to being deemed "less than whole souled" in their "service." (all TM's by WTBS...) Grrrr.
