Spelling/Grammar Nazis.

i'll admit it.

it kinda gets my goat when folks disregard spelling and grammar.

i really get miffed at misuse of there/their/they're and your/you're, then/than, etc.. i very rarely ever go so far as to correct anyone on it, but it would seem that maybe karma caught up with me today on another thread when i typed that i had "said my peace".

I have to be careful all day long in my spelling and grammer for work, as well as correcting others, and I'm not great at it. I'm not crazy about certain styles of writing on a casual board, but who cares...and who cares what I think!

On a casual board, I think it's rude to comment on other people's posting grammar and spelling. Many times I'm in a rush and I see I left out a word or mispelled because I had no time to spell check, and I cringe. I think it is better to be accepting of all posting styles rather than intimidate and discourage a reader from expressing themselves.

I remember a few years back close to when I came to JWN, a verrrrry famous JWD'er went on a little tirade about poor spelling, and "don't you want to do your best? Why not do your best!" In his own post he was called out for spelling errors. It discouraged me from posting for a while. Who needs to be criticized by a person who doesn't know or care about you when you are trying to heal from leaving cult and dealing with all the crap that comes with it?

does anyone here have any suggestions on handling financial abuse of a senior by the watchtower bible and tract society?

mom gave a lot of money to the watchtower bible and tract society over her lifetime- (6 figures).

after she ran low on funds she made a 5 figure "conditional loan" to wtb&ts.

I don't have any advice but I'm very interested in how this plays out. My mom did a similar thing. Made me sick. It may turn out legally they have CYA, but in public opinion, it is one more brick in the wall. Not that they matter much, but I'm for letting acquaintances of the WTBS know exactly how they treat people, as a religious charity. POS religion.

i just heard that donna summer passed away today, losing her battle with cancer.

she was 63. .

Just read this. We loved her! A big part of the glory days her music was.

First time I saw her was in the 70's opening for the Spinners at the Greek. RIP Miss Donna.

Are JW's dfing those who buy holiday items now?

i don't bother too often these days with things jw.

the other day, in a chat with an old friend [also xjw] she stated that on a forum somewhere it was being ststated that jw's have ruled that those who would be found purchasing items that are considered 'holiday items' - turkey around thanksgiving, valentine candy, fireworks around the 4th [just a few examples] could face a jc.. any truth to this?

has the watchtower taken such a stance in writing?

The WTBS is very savvy as to telling people exactly what they can and cannot do in writing. Which is good actually. But that doesn't mean a CO or DO or zealous publisher (TM) or elder won't be happy to tell you exactly what to do or not do, which sounds kind of like what happened at that other forum.

But, you really can get DF'd for anything the JC agrees on. If they ask you to meet up with them they can DF you for that. You can be DF'd for going against counsel. I would say if a JC DF'd a person for the BD cake/turkey/fireworks/Xmas lights etc., the person would have a good chance getting it reversed using the appeal process and threatening legal action. .02

the anonymity of the internet is both a blessing a curse for the information age, especially when it comes to debate.

when a screen is put over the person, all that you are left with are ideas in a pure form; written word that constitutes a set of ideas, reasons and thoughts.

anyone can sit and analyze and form a response at their leisure.

There is nothing wrong with having different opinions, geez, that's what makes the world go around. Not only that, if we let it, we can learn from it. But calling a poster "stupid/idiot/lazy etc." for just posting their own thoughts on a discussion board is disrespectful and plain rude. They are bullies with other issues than a discussion on a DB. It is a frustration and baggage in their own life.

But it is what it is until they decide to behave differently.
