my first post! (long read sorry in advance)
by Letts Party inlong time lurker, first time poster here finally looking to get some things off my chest.
i've always been a very curious person with tons of questions about everything, and i also care deeply particularly about societal issues like social injustice, racism, and homophobia.
that, coupled with how boneheaded all the elders in my congregation are (except for one), led me to ask even more questions that led me to find ttatt.. .

Jehovah's Witness disfellowshipped for questions, joins Catholic Church to "feel Love"

I enjoyed her article and appreciate her journey. The few times I've been to Catholic services, I felt all warm and fuzzy and I don't know why.
However, all religions have their own form of disfellowshipping and punishment. I studied with a girl who became a JW and her mother vehemently opposed her every step of the way. And when children were born, my student was worried her mom was going to have them baptised in the church. I then understood the Catholics/Jews/Mormons/JW's etc. all felt the same way...that if not in their religion, all were doomed for whatever type of destruction that was the doctrine. In my student's case, her mom was scared the children were going to hell. Now I get her. It's all in the degrees the individual exercises the rules of the doctrine. Not many are as severe as JW's, but there are those that are.
I'm glad the writer found her way to happiness and peace.

Usually 2-3 times a day. I love this site and appreciate it and all the work to maintain it.
I was trying to find a thread for the last few days and as I went back 7-8 years I was reminded of so many people that passed through here. I'm grateful for this place.

Spanking VS. Reasoning
by SpeedRacer ini am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.

Dagney
This has been a very interesting thread to read. I'm old and was raised with a spank from time to time, mostly I think because I was a "smart aleck." I don't believe I suffered from it, and it certainly wasn't what some on here experienced... I remember my mom telling me that one time she saw me line up my dolls playing "meeting" and I would yell at them and beat the crap out of them, just copying what I saw at the KH. That clicked for her I guess that it was wrong.
I don't believe people had the tools and the understanding of alternative ways to discipline back in the day. Now there is plenty of practical advice and ways to to access it. I don't believe it is necessary at all to hit another human being. I think one of the "Nanny" shows was very instructive about discipline, and highlighted that when kids act out they usually just need attention. So she always had the parents make sure they scheduled undistracted/uninterrupted personal time for their kids.

the flood, mammoths, elphants, and food.
by Crazyguy inmy question is since it looks as though mammoths were alive after the flood and we know elephants are then how much food was needed to feed just these four animals for the time they were on the ark.
also was the ark, 500 feet long, big enough to hold the amount of food needed for just these 4 animals.. .

The amount of fresh water from that much rain and what it would do to the ecosystem is what got me. It's just a story. Like Green Eggs and Ham.
