Special pioneer stipend
by wannaexit inhow much do they get for their 120 hours of door banging?

About 10 years ago a widowed CO's wife came to our hall and was given SP status and a stipend. I don't remember exactly, but it seems it was about $300-400...not enough to live on. And cost of living is high around here. I remember looking for places to rent with her and trying to figure out odd jobs where she could bring in a bit of money. -

Good Netflix shows to watch
by Simon inin the long winter nights you need some good tv shows to watch while you wait for the eternity between seasons of game of thrones.. we've watched marco polo (pretty good) and have just started watching orange is the new black which is not at all what i imagined (didn't know it was funny!).
house of cards is on the list too as we've heard good things about that.. anyone have any others that are worth seeing?.

Clever/snappy comeback for "you're an apostate"
by Dagney ini'm looking for some clever comebacks.
i really don't care that i am an apostate, but would like to deliver a quick comeback or two to perhaps make the other person think.

Last night I was annoyed.
Today I'm p*ssed. Not for me so much anymore, but any damage to my newly exited friend's relationships....I will get REALLY p*ssed. Nobody needs that hassle...and from somebody we haven't talked to in 30 years. The nerve!
@3rdgen= I said something similar to my brother (COBE/elder), "I don't follow men." He didn't say one word. He knows.

So it was quite an evening. Long story short, my savvy (newly ex) friend responded along the lines of what Flipper said. They asked the person what an apostate was. My friend told them, "no Dagney doesn't do that." More definitions came up and were challenged in the same manner. It was pointed out that the accuser continued association with several people who had left "the truth" and were openly "immoral" (again...I don't care...just trying to point out the hypocrisy), but were not considered "apostate." The point was made.
Like Oubilette brought out, JW's are all about labels...and I hate labels. I told my friend tonight, you are taught from the get go as a JW to put people in categories. "Are you still pioneering?", "I don't see her out in service very much and she misses a lot of meetings," "Well he works a lot of overtime..." "His wife doesn't go to meetings..." "His hair is getting long." "She dresses worldly." Everybody must have a label. Everybody must be judged.
My best friends are labeled apostates. But I will confront anybody who wants to cause problems for me or someone I care about and get in my personal business. I confronted a MS relative when he called a dear friend of mine an apostate. I told him I would contact his elders and tell them he was slandering a brother. And if I didn't like the response I would write the HQ and name names. That shut him up.
My dear friend who has remained my close friend the 13 years I've been out and who now is sorting through their own journey learned a huge lesson today. The lesson we here have all had to learn. People who you thought would be your friends for life...people you picked up and carried when they were down and out...those same people will turn against you in a moment. There is no loyalty in the organization. There were tears tonight but the lesson was learned.
Thanks for listening.

ARE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY STATISTICS REALLY TRUSTWORTHY?
by TerryWalstrom inof these, over 2,000 were admitted to concentration camps.
1,000 died in prison and concentration camps.
another 1,000 of jehovah's witnesses died in prisons and concentration camps.".

I think exact numbers for that would be hard to come by. But they should be more consistent nevertheless in their research.
With that being said, their statistics overall are dodgy. They are not interested in honesty or care about what information they give out as long as it is for the good of the corporation in their minds.

Feeling low
by campaign of hate inchrist, my mind feels f***ed.
there is so many layers of indoctrination and rules and regulations in this, whatever this is (religion?
cult?

Welcome campaign of hate. It's exciting to see so many new ones waking up and moving toward freedom.
It's a process, but I promise you, it gets better. The "what ifs" are killers...and they haunt me from time to time. Like Blondie says, be proactive in your healing...whatever it takes. Read. Find out who you really are and what you really want...it will strength you and give you courage for each step of the way.
Discover/rediscover things that you love. Refuse to give the WBTS any power any more. Your actions have consequences, but they are less if you are strong and confident in taking charge of your life.
We've all been right where you are. We are happy to have you on board. Welcome to the dark side...we have cookies.

What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015
by ABibleStudent inim not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.
it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.
the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.
