I bet it's hard to get an appointment with him if you want to get your taxes done because he is the Secretary of the WBTS.
when the wt sells property for a billion dollars profit, who decides what that money is going to be used for?.
when all the money comes in from all the kingdom halls bank accounts worldwide, did all that money go into one big account and who has authority to spend it and cut some checks to whoever?
when all the monthly donations come in to the watchtower headquarters, who decides distribution, and to who?

i have posted this information on another thread, but i think it is important enough to have its own thread.. i have been doing research into the roots of "bloodless medicine" and naturally, the "bloodless surgeon" ron lapin that the jws hail as a hero, has come under my scrutiny.
this post concerns the lawyer gerald garner, who represented ron lapin during the 80s and 90s when lapin was being investigated for dangerous medical practices, and for being too eager to slice open patients by burning them with a cauterizing knife.
garner was received to the new york bar in 1961, and was suspended in new york in 1984 for his role in an adoption proceeding.
Well this was interesting. Coast Medical was a BIG deal here back in the day 1980's, I'm from Orange Co. A former JW doctor friend from Sweden became friends with Dr. Lapin and the staff there and told me stories of lavish lunches and dinners at the expense of the medical center. That didn't set well with him or me.
Something seemed amiss with that place, although at the time it seemed like a "provision from Jah" that we now had a place that would perform bloodless surgery. I remember attending seminars at hotels put on by the medical center regarding bloodless surgery. I do know a sister who had a bloodless surgery from Dr. Lapin who eventually passed, and we always wondered about it...my gf would remember more. I do remember Dr. Lapin had lots of issues, then again, doctors tend to. His lawyer was a piece of work I guess.
Strange times it was.
i was just a teenager and have a vivid memory of sitting in a chair doing a microphone for the sunday meeting.
everyone was commenting that it didn't mean the end was far off, and it didn't change the condition of the dead, or the 144,000, or the trinity so we should still remain faithful.
this is my first memory as a kid being just a teen that i ever had a single doubt.
The generation change in 1995 was HUGE for me...it was the beginning of the end. I knew right then and there they were fo sho making everything up and that they were going to start a series of "adjustments" to explain the non-fulfillment of, well...everything they say.
My former friends and elders just shrugged their shoulders about it. Most are still in and making fun of the "overlapping" explanation. The jokes on them.
it seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.
i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.
.
There are not enough words to describe this POS. Bill Mayer said 20+ years ago a young female comedian friend of his told him the same story. She was poor, knew she would not be believed going up against a popular and beloved superstar, and moved on. This guy is the real deal and needs to go to prison.
i have just found out that my brother (who was one of a bunch that shared this login) has died.. he and his wife were living in another country where they once pioneered.
i didn't see him that often.. such an empty feeling.....
So very sorry for your loss.
how many times did we have to hear this?
just another way to make you feel guilty for wanting to spend time improving yourself or enjoying life outside the organization.
to think of all the people that died waiting for the "real life" that is not coming is actually very sad and depressing.
It's so sad. But they don't feel sad and it's their choice to believe in a fantasy sold to them by the Wizard spinning the wheels of the machine.
If the believers wanted the normal things bad enough they would pursue them. That's the sad truth also. It is easier and less painful to stay.
"hot topic on topix seems to be candace conti settlement.
but it's all quiet here.
are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?".
To me part of the win with Candace's case is the spotlight aimed at the WBTS which reveals their motives, something rarely seen. They hide behind the Wizard's curtain appearing to be good. But in the end, the defense of the corporation is to protect itself at all costs, including the disregard for the victimization of a child.
No one will be signing up to be one of JW's if they have ever read any of the court transcripts. That's a victory.
The lack of concern, empathy, sympathy for abuse victims is appalling to the normal human being. It is not for somebody in a cult. Nor is it unusual for 8 million JW's who gleefully anticipate the destruction of 9 billion human beings so they can have a swiss chalet over looking a vineyard populated with their own pet lion and panda bear.
The joke is on them, the poor saps...loyal to a fantasy.
Oh no, Candace won BIG time...as will ALL the others that follow. Money is important, but not as important as the truth coming out about this vile corporation. Nobody in their right mind would ever want to be a JW. Nobody with children should EVER be a JW.

(2 corinthians 9:7) in 1879, the second issue of this magazine stated: zions watch tower [as this magazine was then called] has, we believe jehovah for its backer, and while this is the case it will never beg nor petition men for support.
we have not wavered from that policy.

my amazing wife surprised me and bought tickets for us to hear richard dawkins tonight!
he is giving a lecture with someone and then they are having a q&a session.
anyone have any suggestions for questions i could ask?
That's great! A handful of us from JWN went to see him a few years ago when he spoke at a local event. Several had their pictures taken with him. It was a very good discourse.
The nut case Ray Comfort was there with his group passing out copies of "Origins of the Species" in front of the venue for some reason. Got a copy from him. (rolls eyes)
Enjoy and tell us about it later.
i just had an invite to a district convention later this month in calgary (i guess they get to clean up the saddledome before the stampede, lol).. they gave me a leaflet asking "why did jesus come to earth?
" so i asked them "so why did he come?".
"well, he came to save us".
That was good Simon. I hope I have a chance to use it.
