Alan Rickman's Passing
by TipsyMangoTea inalan rickman, best known to my generation as prof. severus snape from the harry potter film franchise, has passed away due to cancer at the age of 69.. growing up with a witness mother, anything related to science fiction and fantasy was looked down upon, so, naturally, i was a rebel rebel (oh david bowie...).. just wanted to let any potterheads know the news and that even if you feel like you'll never be free of the deadly watchtower, you're not alone and there's hope.. always..

"Fa La La"
by OnTheWayOut inout at the mall with mrs. otwo, she sees a shirt on the rack that was marked down from $25 to just $4.
she holds it up and says, "should i buy this as a workout shirt?".
i tell her "no, because as soon as you figure out what it means, you won't wear it anymore.

It's odd to me she wouldn't take what you told her as being true.
But yeah, it would be funny if she wore a xmas shirt to clean the hall...get a pic!

The disappointed look on a Jehovah's Witness face - that you're living a good and fulfilling life
by jambon1 inanother thread got me thinking of this issue.
i don't think you'll ever come across a set of people with such a skewed and twisted outlook on life.. my memory serves me well when i recall a sort of blood lusting excitement over things like the 9/11 atrocities.
in fact i remember jw's describing the event as 'sad but exciting.

They are so out of touch with life and living. They think their demented way of thinking about life and living puts them in some secret club with special perks...as they have been told.
I like the quizzical looks...like, "shouldn't you be shooting heroin and dying from AIDS" kind of look.

What is your relationship with ALCOHOL?
by nicolaou inhere in the uk new drinking guidelines have been issued which suggest "no more than 14 units a week - equivalent to six pints of beer or seven glasses of wine.".
another piece of the advice which is getting a lot of attention is that "if people drink, it should be moderately over three or more days and that some days should be alcohol-free.".
already people are making cries of "nanny state!

Ya know, it's like every day you read "one glass of wine per day will save your life" in one news blurb, then some other "authority" will tell you any alcohol is taxing your system and killing you sip by sip.
I like others have mentioned here, have alcoholism in my family. There was a time in life where I drank a lot and wondered if I have the genetic predisposition. It turns out I'm a social drinker and don't really drink outside of social occasions.
I say moderation and whatever works for you. Edited to add: maybe that should read whatever is "best" for your health and best for your situation with family etc.

Thank you for those stories! That was a crazy time in NY.
I went in August 1982. Now that I think about it lots of crazy things happened. But I do remember walking back from the subway late at night, (the bookstudy was in one of the high rise housing buildings), us two girls and two Bethelite boys. There were groups of near-do-well looking kids we were walking past. One group started to follow us on one of those dark, deserted industrial streets. It was the most afraid I have ever been in my LIFE. They let us be, but I was praying like the dickens which I thought then, of course, big Jah had saved us.
Do you remember the Friday night dances? Some club in the city the Bethelites went to? And the basement disco?
Thanks again...great reading!!!

Double life
by Esmeralda001 inis there a way i can successfully live a double life?
don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to get engaged in activities that are condemnable according to the *bible* (not the *wt*) standards.
i figured that the only way i can get the brothers and sisters to leave me along is by pretending that i am an unemployed drop out.

^^^ what rebel said x10.
You will be much happier pursuing your own needs and goals and the concern about other's expectations will organically fall to its lesser and unimportant position.
