Welcome Andy! You've done well so far. It's no easy journey but for some of us we do not have a choice no matter the difficulties.
It's great to have you here. Thank you for sharing your story. Many will read it and understand.
i've left a couple of semi-"humorous" remarks, but not yet said a proper hello....but firstly thank you, to all, for this site and all its comments.i have been lurking on this site for 4-5 years, awake for 5-6 years and seriously fading for the last 4 years.
i am now "out" and widely considered "out" by the congregation but due being very cautious and playing a very long game, (and having a wife who understand the repercussions of blowing the whistle on the few viewpoints i have discussed with her) i have not been df'd of da'd.
this forum has been a crutch and guide as well as helping me wake - and the humour many on here use has been a welcome relief.

yesterday my wife and i enjoyed one of our regular days out at edinburgh - movie, lunch, walk, meal etc.. in the late afternoon while mrs cofty went shopping i had an hour at the excellent museum of scotland and arranged to meet up outside the national gallery on princes street.
on my way back i saw the jw trolley was at the usual spot on the royal mile.
there was an older man and a young woman standing well back trying hard to look inconspicuous.
Well done cofty.
i thank one of my former lecturers for drawing my attention to this overview.. after some 100 years, living out its "manifest destiny" dream, as the hegemon of the world, what has this 'dream' done to/for the usa?
the approaching presidential election provides an opportunity to examine this question.. and what of all the appendage organisations (like the wts) that rode across the world on the hegemon's coattails?.
the answer may be here: http://www.vox.com/2016/3/1/11127424/trump-authoritarianism.
Really people. What Terry said. ^^^^
This is a huge country and to judge it by what the media decides to put on air for its viewers is pretty dumb.
We have vigilantes and peacemakers here. It's like any country, but really big and with lots of little countries inside of it. It is truly a wild ride.
It will sort out. There are tons of great people here with good motives.
ferris bueller's day off was an huge flick when i was young, and it's a many-layered story.
i was watching this vid, and realized that one reason i love this movie, is that it could be one metaphor for my life.
i took the lead, did it my way, and have had one helluva lot of fun on the journey.
Hey tal! Just got home from work, long story, fighting a very resistant computer virus. I need a little Ferris about now. Heard another friend passed today from cancer, the 3rd in 4 mths.
sending hugs.xxxx
my first one!
even though i got it saturday, march 26, in the mail in an envelope addressed to "my dear neighbor.".
it's the thought that counts..
Thank you Wild Thing. No, I don't thing there will be any winning. But a pretty card with a few words she won't forget.
One point I've used and no one can say anything about is, "I've been taught well all these years to question all things and not follow men." My brother an elder couldn't even respond to that. I'll prob quote a scripture, for good measure. LOL
2016 watchtower cart campaign video... this video does not seem to be listed on jw.org, so it may not be available to rank and file jws.. .. organizational accomplishments-sail amsterdam.
.. between minutes 1:05--1:10 of this video, the watchtower plainly states that they are directing people to (jw.org) no mention of directing people to god's kingdom, or to god or even jesus christ.. .. between minutes 2:45--2:52 the statement is made that the demonstrations focus primarily on promoting (jw.org) again, no mention of god's kingdom or jesus christ.. .. it is pretty clear to see that (jw.org) has taken the drivers seat and god's kingdom and jesus christ have been placed in the back seat.. .. https://we.tl/eejg44rezq.
.. .. .. atlantis!.
They lost me when they went ON and ON about how excited people were that there was a book in their own language. Really? They are in Europe.
Then again, it's probably the highlight of their day.

Ok, so for some reason I didn't throw the envelope away until yesterday. I noticed it was rather thick, and a handwritten letter was inside. So I was wrong about the invite alone being tossed in an envelope and mailed.
It was a generic, "nice", inoffensive letter. I think I will write back, just a brief note. If you had one item to share with a person...what point would you like to make?
Points I thought I would make:
Not sure what item I want to leave in their thoughts. Pedo issue? The doctrine changes? The pew report about the low retention of children? Shunning?
My intent is to respond kindly with a brief comment of a few words that might make her think or might make her share the note with others. No I don't have any grandiose idea that it will change her, but it is an opportunity I have to say something to a captive audience.
Any thoughts? Ideas appreciated.
i was one year out of high school and attending the assembly in dallas, texas when i heard the buzz about this new half-hour move--an actual movie the watchtower had produced called "heritage.
"so, all of us teens (i was 19) sat in the vast audience and the lights went down and the screen flickered as our hearts beat a little faster in anticipation.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiiu0tm_dym___________i don't think our reaction (those of us young jw's) was quite what the propaganda master minds in ny had in mind!we were embarrassed at how awful this film was.it was beyond being a 1950's style b-grade teen rebellion film.
this piece of crap reflected badly on the very idea the supreme being was directing it!

social media is saying that this individual was a jehovah's witness.
can someone from the southern california area confirm this.
Sad.
if witnesses should "get out of babylon the great" then why is it ok to go into hospitals that have been set up, and have funding from churches?.
isnt that a little contradictory or hypocritical?.
My mom ended up in a Lutheran assisted living facility, put there by my brother a COBE. It was a wonderful place for her with the nicest people. When I saw the sign for the first time I said loudly, "Thank you Lutherans!"
Crickets I tell you.
