Subtle Differences in congregations
by SouthCentral ini grew up in a very zealous congregation.
we had almost 40 pioneers with only 100 publishers.
the congregation was 100% black americans (i don't say african-american).

I grew up in a very racially mixed area and congregation. That was the era of congregation gatherings for all. We were all close and remained so.
I would run into the matriarchs later at conventions and every time they would pull me to their ample chests and call me baby girl even though I was in my 30's, 40's and even 50's.
I smile when I think of those sisters.
Edited to add, my comment was probably not what you were looking for, but it raised a sweet memory. I bet there was discrimination for non-whites...us kids didn't see it.

Recent mistakes of the Governing Body contributing to the decline of JWs
by slimboyfat inthey have made so many strategical mistakes it's hard to keep track.
some changes within the last decade or so that are contributing to declining numbers of jws:.
1. elimination of book study groups, the most informal, enjoyable and sociable of the jw meetings, contributed to loss of sense of community among jws.. 2. policy of consolidating kingdom halls.

I also think the playing of videos in place of the human aspect of having a real person as a speaker depersonalizes the meetings. It may sound cool at first to watch professional videos, but I think eventually it will lead to a distancing mentally from the meetings. Probably not by all, but by some. Little to no effort by meeting speakers makes it easier on the BOE to be sure, and good for them...it was a nutty schedule to try to keep up effectively as a "shepherd."
I would think maybe it would make it easier to miss meetings if you thought, "oh I'm really tired...well tonight is the video night, I can catch it another time or go to jw.org."
Just a thought I've been tossing around for a while.

I conclude evolution is guided
by KateWild inyour qualifications are way above mine so i'd love to hear more about the specifics of what you have researched and how that supports the existence of a deity.
k99, i am not really convinced that you're interested in my conclusions.

How to Fade - The Basics!
by The Searcher inthis really works.
i've already applied the basics of this with one elder who "offered" us a shepherding visit.
we've been totally ignored since!!!

Very good suggestions.
I think the thing I might add that worked for me is to be kind but firm and confident when responding, even if you don't feel that way and are nervous, I told everybody I was on "sabbatical." To some I added "I've taken it to prayer with J." Even some that persisted at times would back at the moment...and eventually they let it go.

The WTBS is a business. They have and will ALWAYS make decisions in the best interest of the corporation.
It is "us" who thought they were more.

Are they either leaving or going full on 'cult mode'? No quarter.
by punkofnice init might just be me imagining things.. i hear things from my jw spies.. from all that's being said, it seems to me that the rank and file(tm), are either waking up to the scam and fading/leaving.
they are going full on 'cult mode' and acting like 'spiritual police'.. is it just me and my imagination?
have others noticed this?.

I am wondering my own self what the sentiment is in the congregations. A few dear friends have received the "dreaded text message," one the very evening of the RC, terminating already minimal contact.
This week I ran into what was my very best and closest friend when I was in. Haven't seen them in 9 years, last time was at a funeral of one of my nonJW relatives...huge controversy, groups of JW's standing outside the community hall door refusing to enter as an accused "apostate" gave the memorial talk. Fun times. Our visit lasted about an hour and felt like old times. Statements of wanting to get together soon were made...I don't think they have had their RC yet. They seem to be living the life they want, but still go to church.
I don't think the message from the videos will carry the weight they want with the majority. Some need this message to tell them how to think every minute.
What a waste of precious time.
