We are becoming champions of grief. We lost twin B.
by Darkknight757 inlast week we had a reassurance ultrasound with our ob.
she was just supposed to check heartbeats on the two little ones and they were going strong!
but because she had extra time and she can be quite anal about her work (which is a good thing) she decided to take some measurements.

Russian news article re: financial misdeeds of the WT in Russia
by OrphanCrow inthe way that the wt conducts business in russia, hiding ownership of property and moving money overseas, was a large factor in the jws falling afoul of the russian authorities.
it wasn't just 'extremist' views that came into play, it was also their handling of money that was illegal.. this article is from a russian news source - i had to use google translate to read it, so i have copied and pasted the whole article (i usually don't...apologies to the author of the article).
if someone has russian language skills, please feel welcome to offer a better translation.. .

Was There ANYTHING Positive That You Experienced Because of Being a JW?
by minimus inwas there anything positive about your jehovah's witness experience?.
-
Dagney
I don't think there is any positive experience from being a JW that I could not have experienced just as positive or more so by not being one. One can easily learn speaking skills, actually better speaking skills by fully using the school system, taking part in speaking and debates...and being actually counseled by an educated counselor not a window washer.
I can't think of anything positive about being raised in a high control environment/cult...it is achingly suppressive. There were rewarding personal relationships along the way, but that happens anywhere or never...it's not a result of jw.org.
I just spent a fabulous weekend with 3 other ladies who I knew when we were all teenagers and JW, and just recently reunited from FB after 45 years. They were pioneers and one Belthelite. They left way before me and are leading happy successful lives without any hint of JW. But I will tell you...the scars of the cult are deep. Maybe it was living through the 70's and the 1975 debaucle...I don't know. But being raised a JW gives you a special sort of club membership.
So...no.

"The Santa Clarita Diet" on Netflix
by schnell insomeone recommended "the santa clarita diet" to me at work, and when i got home and watched the trailer, my wife and i both sat down and binged through the whole thing.... https://youtu.be/xjrnbogoauq.
thematically, the show is all about rebirth.
sprinkled throughout is the idea that when something changes in your life, you just have to be bold and run with it.

Good to hear the reviews...I'll give it a try. I like the actors, but wasn't so sure about the storyline.
I just binged "OA" yesterday. I thought the story was different and interesting with an interesting villain. But that ending...

When The Persecution Comes
by cofty inwhen i was young everybody used to fantasise constantly about how brave we would all need to be "when the persecution comes".
we worried about what "they" would do to us and how we would never talk or betray other jws.
psychologically it was a damaging environment for children; but maybe that's another topic.. who would have thought that when it finally came it would take the form of being sued for protecting pedophiles.

"when the persecution comes".
Man that phrase brings back memories, cofty.
It's so hard to figure out what JW's think in 20 f$$king 17!!! How do they do it? Must be a safety net...don't think about being without it....scary.
But yea, who would have thought it would be the WT coverups and abuse issues that would bring their persecution. No governments "turning" on religion. And if you heard Trump today with 6 religious speakers, religion is alive and well...at least in Washington.

Xmas / New Year - Time to Review Your Finances
by Simon init's that time of the year again, when most people spend too much buying too much crap for people .... it's also a good time to take advantage of the few days off to look at your finances and make sure you're not being "gouged" by the big companies that, well, like to extract as much money from people as possible.. for us, one of the biggest culprits was telecoms.. think about it: years ago you just had to buy a tv and probably paid to have a phone line.
nowadays you have cell phones for everyone in the family and a million and one tv channels (all showing crap or repeats of crap) and extra for movies and pay-per-view.
you can easily be paying hundreds of dollars per month.. it can all add up, quickly.

Kanye West and D. Trump
by James Mixon inmaybe the end is near..west is recovering from a mental breakdown that could be the reason for his action...they talked about life.....
-
Dagney
I could be wrong, but I thought I read that he cancelled other agenda items, (press conf/business announcement/intelligence briefing), to meet with Kanye. That is an odd choice for the President Elect...as if that was the best choice he could make for the people of this country.

Netflix now lets you download things to watch rather than having to stream them. If you have a lower speed or quality internet service it might makes it a viable option and more watchable.
I saw that. But what does it download to? The shield has the option of a SD card, so would do it? Or add an external HD? What do I attach it to?
Inquiring minds want to know...
I agree...need to annualize costs and know what the long term usage is actually costing you and the options.
