Has anyone started a support group for people leaving cults?
by Whynot inmy husband and i have talked about starting a support group but we feel we don't have the proper qualifications.
has anyone started a support group for ex-jws?
we even thought of hosting a social gathering or meet and greet.

Meetups go a long way with healing. It is really the best meeting others with the same shared past. Many I've met still seek counseling for issues and advice, and it is best to see a counselor with experience in high control or cult religions. Most likely the counselor that specializes already has dealt with exJW's, and their issues are not unlike any other high control religion, orthodox Jews etc.
Anyone with serious issues needs to see a qualified physician or therapist. The success of meetups entirely depends on the people in the area, and their desire to meetup. Your mileage will vary.
We had a very vibrant group here about 10 years ago. Most have moved on, the conversation changes once you have sorted things out to a degree. I just spent an evening with Aude Sapere last week, she is one of the very first exJW's I met in person. We still have issues to sort, and appreciate the understanding ear of a fellow survivor.
With that being said, there was a very large turnout for Cedar's book signing, most I think were not on DB's, but but definitely informed with websites and youtube. I had a beach party one time and people came that I didn't know or engaged with on here, but they read the invitation and came. I also met many newly exited ones in Tahoe. They watched Eric's JW Struggle on youtube and just came not knowing anybody. Pretty amazing stories all of them.
My point, give it a shot! Post something in meetup and on boards. JWN used to be THE place for all things exJW, and I don't know if there are other places that people go to for information. Again, it just depends on the desire of those to want to meet. I wanted to meet people so I did, and it is great. Good luck!

Sex and Rockets: The CBS show Strange Angel, Jack Parsons and Charles Taze Russell
by truthseeker inthere is a new show airing on cbs all access called strange angel based on a true story about jack parsons, who along with others, pioneered rocket development in 1930's america.
the jet propulsion laboratory is derived from jack parson's initials.. cbs describes the show strange angel as "a drama series created by mark heyman (black swan, the wrestler) and based on george pendle's book of the same name, explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction.
the story follows the life of jack parsons, a mysterious and brilliant man in 1930s los angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of american rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist aleister crowley" (https://www.cbs.com/shows/strange-angel/).. while researching jack parsons, i found a book called sex and rockets.

Interesting. I put it on my list to watch.
I've toured JPL a few times, I love that place, and I'm glad it grew into such an amazing scientific lab and didn't veer off into any hanky panky!

New kingdom hall Washington State
by Are you serious inyesterday i drove passed a town a couple of hours from my home and saw this kh under construction.
this is the first new design kh i've seen in washington state even though i would think by now another one or two have been built.
maybe not with their financial situation being the way it is.

So is this the new design they came up with? When they revamped the RBC?
From a corporate standpoint it's practical as it can be used for anything when they want to sell. But for the "worshippers," who they don't have one thought about, it is the dreariest!

Anyone pissed at their parents for raising you in the cult?
by blownaway inmy mother was not the most emotionally stable person.
she was a follower and instilled in me the idea we were better than those worldly people.
its hard to go to school as a child and you can not be friends outside of school, you can not celebrate any holidays, and you are told all these people are going to die.

I was, and I had to work through it. It took time.
I am pissed at myself for staying so long.
And I REALLY hate this religion for the control over people's lives they take.

What are the JWs saying about Trump?
by Wild_Thing inas much as jws say they are neutral, they can't help but discuss politics and label them as either bad or good and somehow connect it back to their dogma.
i remember hearing them discuss it all the time when i was a jw.
i can't help but wonder what the r&f are saying about trump and the many, many controversial events surrounding him.

The funny part was we chatted back and forth about retirement planning etc and I made the statement something about having to take care of oneself and family “because the end hasn’t come” and he quickly chimed in “YET!”
lol.

I'm trying to keep an open mind. All prices have gone up, especially on food, gas, you know...the stuff you really need every day. My stock was doing well before, and increase in 401K is not significant looking at the graphs. We are preparing the best we can in regards to the impact of the tariffs where I work, which is in auto parts.
