The Universities do not teach anything healthy if that is what they learn to be political rioters.
Nothing like generalizing everything into one pot. Someone hasn't a clue about education.

You can't get expelled for going to college. Half the congregation I go to is/went to college. However, nobody talks about it so it's perfectly fine.
Exactly. My last congregation had real businessmen who were the elder body and all their kids went to college. They understood what the value of education was.
However, in the 1970's, a friend of mine went to secretarial school after high school and she got a load of **it for it. Her father wasn't a JW, and she still went, but what a load of crock.

Pioneer Hours
by Etude indoes anyone know how many hours were required to be a pioneer back in or around 1970?.
etude..

I was told the hours for full time in the 30's-40's was 150, although not called pioneers back then I think. Also "vacation pioneers" were for a 2 month minimum at 150 each month. My brother and sister were baptized kids then, and participated. They went out alone at 7 and 9 living in DTLA.

LOL. Campus. What a joke. It's called that for every government subsidy they can get. They have a shrewed and avaricious executive team.
I can't wait for the day they have to surrender this to pay the victims for the WT sins. I'm always hoping.
I really really hate this religion.

Disaster preparedness
by ElderBerry inas your family considers its disaster preparedness plan, please ensure that the secretary has up-to-date contact information for you and your emergency contact.
also, we have re- peatedly seen good results when brothers and sisters are prepared with go bags and are ready to obey direction when they face various kinds of disasters.
please be sure you have a go bag, and review its contents at least once a year.

I haven't paid much attention to the preparedness discussion from JW. Of course it's good to be prepared. I live in earthquake country so I'm kinda sorta there.
I get their spin ("where's Kevin?), is for the world turning on them...do they still call it the Great Tribulation? I was RAISED with that verbiage, every.single.day. of my childhood. I hated cooked carrots and my mom said to me "what if that is all you had to eat while you're in prison during The Great Tribulation!!! TM"
Annnnd I didn't pay that much attention to a former JW BFF talking about a new business they started which is preparedness training. I heard later about flyers and FB page or website or something. NOW it makes sense. Duh. They must see the opportunity to "help" their fellow brothers based on the direction from HQ. Interesting.

^^thats interesting. One of my relatives told me they went in with 4-5 bros and bought an RV. I didn’t think a thing about it, just told him I thought it would be a fun thing to have. He sent a pic of the group partying in the RV. Now I’m thinking the intention may be for this disaster thing.

New ministry, you don’t give a witness
by Mikejw inthere are assignments on the life and ministry school now where they are suggested to just talk to people without giving a witness.. they are supposed to practice starting conversations with strangers and listening to them to talk about whatever they want to talk about .
there is an assignment this week where the conversation ends without giving a witness.
jws don’t look like jws anymore and now they don’t actually preach.. you could get bearded men with sweaters or other such tops and women in pants or slacks coming upto you in the park or on the street and starting a conversation with you.. then you hear them listening to you and talking about whatever they think that you wanted to talk about .

It is true, JW's don't know how to just converse with a non-believer, to be just a real person. Can you imagine they have to learn this! But it's true. After decades of indoctrination of "them and us", be separate, they are now being taught the opposite.
I agree with the whole social thing. I was with a JW relative and their friend, along with my non JW relatives last week. It was really weird. The friend, used to be BFF, talked to me for 1 1/2 hrs afterward and basically caught me up on all the travel and interesting things they are doing in the social "club."
It keeps them in. And that's what the corporation needs.

What's the Worst Advice You Heard of an Elder Giving Someone?
by Sea Breeze ini believe an an elder told someone who's daughter (14 yo) became sexually active with a 26 year old in the neighborhood, that maybe they should get married.
so, they did... with parental consent.
he turned out to be a ex-convict who shot his first wife in the face with a shotgun.

Boy where do I begin.
I guess the ones I remember most are the many times husbands were unfaithful to the wives, and the wives were pressured to "forgive and forget." Could be the other way around, of course. They were looked down upon if they proceeded with divorce. They were miserable and it never ended well. It was pretty sad.
The other was an elder body coerced a friend to sell the family home that he inherited from his mother. His siblings didn't think it was fair he had the house even though he lived and took care of her through her last very ill days. So the siblings went to elders and complained. What a mess and he is still so upset over it many years later.
I don't think the elders would be so involved these days...tho I could be wrong. They were so intrusive.
