  Gifts for C.O.'s and D.O.'s

  does anyone else find it funny that the circuit overseers and district overseers go to a new congregation every week, have all their bills paid and then for some odd reason the elders always find a way to give them extra money.

  on top of that there are atleast 10 families in every hall that give them a green handshake.

  then the people who give them expensive gifts (i am ashamed to say i participated in this) like watches etc... yet these guys still act like they are giving up so much.... .

  Alonzo and Jewel Hawkins were serving in a hall I moved into. Most people liked them a lot. Me not so much. He wouldn't start the meeting until everybody moved forward to fill all the seats in the front. I knew what he was getting at, but many people like me had worked all day, barely made it to the meeting, and didn't like being talked to like we were 3 years old.

  There were a few professional musicians in our hall who contributed songs in the song book. Perhaps Alonzo collaborated on that song.

  Back to the OT. I figured most CO's in metropolitan areas at least will bank $20K or so in untaxed gift income per year. That is on top of the car, housing and other freebies they receive.

  It's a nice gig if you can get it...except not a great retirement plan.

  I had European JW friends who went to Hooters because they "had good fish." () They also went to full on company Xmas parties.

  My parents let me watch The Adams Family and I Dream of Jeannie, but not Bewitched or The Munsters, and absolutely NO Lucky Charms.

  answer: it pretends it will never happen!.

  At one of my last DC's I ended up sitting next to an exCO and his wife. They had just come out of the service and were plunked down into congregation. They were visibly shaken and very worried about how things would play out. Their monthly stipends attached to the "Special Pioneer" label given to them was not nearly enough for them to live on. The congregation was expected to fill in with the rest. They had only been there a few weeks and they were so worried. I felt so bad for them. I gave them some "gas" money. I'll never forget them.

  The WTBS is such an arrogant, greedy organization. Even the greed of the RCC is surpassed by them. At least the RCC has charities.

  SAD news about OOMPA......

  our friend, oompa, has passed away.

  just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.

  it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.

  I personally do not see the WT changing their stance on extreme shunning. I wish I had more hope. The best that we all can do is make sure everybody within shouting distance realizes that they do it and the effects of it. There are TV shows/series about shunning in different religions and it hasn't changed their stance one bit.

  I also think that those with a brain and a heart will change when they finally understand the cruelty and futility of the practice, and take a stand for their loved ones. Some though just don't have it in their hearts to be that kind of person, and will continue in their hate till their dying breath. So very sad.

  I think individuals will make a difference. All Oompa wanted was to lead an authentic life and have his family. Sad how JW's think that's a bad thing.

  i was doing some research on the subject of beliefs and belief systems when i came across an on-line survey/test that supposedly helps you determine which religion or philosophy is most like your current beliefs.

  Yeah, I went off on faves with some sillies included. I don't color within the lines or follow direction, which can be pretty silly.

  Love American Style, I Spy, Perry Mason (I still watch that when I can find it...love the old LA scenes), Dark Shadows, Lost in Space (I wanted to be Angela Cartwright), Sonny and Cher Show, Smother's Brothers, Lassie, The Dean Martin Show (every Thursady night after 'meeting' TM), Wonderful World of Disney, Wild Kingdom, The REal McCoys...
