Interesting discussion.
Question, what is the announcement now? Is it "xxx is no longer a JW?" Do they say "disfellowshiped" from the platform still?
TIA
based on your experience of judicial committees, how would you advise someone who is due to meet with the elders and has asked for the best way to avoid being disfellowshipped?
is denying everything ever a successful strategy?
does addressing a letter to the elders threatening legal action if they disfellowship ever work?

cedars.
The problem is when you are in, you "think" you are doing the right thing, you are helping to save the disciplined one.
When you are out, it's seem so simple to see how mean and cruel it all is. This guy sounds so creepy and manipulative. The majority of the listeners I'm sure will think it's a "good talk."
wow , i`m not gay , and i dont have gay tendencies , (a couple of scenes i have to turn away) but thats just me.. i thought the movie over all was done exceedingly well.
m douglass captured liberace to a tee.
rob lowe should get an oscar for his performance.and matt damon was beleivable in his role.. i watched this movie not knowing what i was going to see,and on a scale of 1 out of 10 i would give it an 8. smiddy.

Thanks Shirley. Gonna try and listen to it on my phone while I'm working. A break from NPR.

It was pretty good I thought. I had heard in an interview before seeing it that prob mentally you have some images and a feeling about this relationship. But the show was so good that soon you are just watching a relationship between people without all the baggage of who is what.
Well done.
there wouldn't have been any good way to hear the news i suppose.
it's just so strange to recall the conversation yesterday.
my "still in" parents are with me and my inactive sister having a pleasant conversation.
At least they've admitted that depressed JWs need professional help. Well, I should qualify that and say that the support is hit-or-miss.
Years ago we stayed with a Bethel DR in Germany. He said depression was epidemic, and he worked long long hours the days he worked there. He was not raised a JW and was kind and sympathetic to many issues including the depression, which was met with some opposition at the branch, at the time. The friends were lucky to have him...hate to think about what would have happened if they didn't.
Wonderful Billy your parents have been still loving to you...they have their priorities right.
for those of you who missed the dc, i thought i'd share my notes so you, too, can partake of the spiritual feast.

zed.
You know, the WTBS has been saying crap like that since the beginning. However, the world has become more PC, and the WT keeps thinking they are Jesus and can call a group "vipers" and worse. I think JW's have heard it for so long, the words go in one ear and out the other...but the message remains..."shun the enemy."
Thanks Denmark for taking a stand. I knew I liked you too.

Oh no, so sad. So sorry for the loss of your friend.
It's true people suffer depression in all areas and all faiths. But the WT is programmed to only support the future of the corporation. Their human faithful mean nothing to them...troubled marriages, lost teens, struggling single parents, elderly, depressed...all get the same advice. "It's not our problem it's your problem. And probably a spiritual problem at that. So just do more."
My heart goes out to the family and friends. RIP.
plus, they were born on the same day in 1918!.
jw or not, it's nice to read about how much people can love each other for so many years!!!.
