Oh dear (((awaken)))...I know you had such hopes for your nieces. How frustrating...you've been such a great daughter/sister/aunt to everybody.
There is no reasoning with the cult mind. The cult mind when presented with issues about their beliefs or conduct will go into defense mode and defend the lies. Their natural mind's reaction would be to discuss an issue or fact as presented.
I'm so sorry you had to experience this. It is maddening...I know. This is the crappy cost of leaving. **sigh** I'm here for you. xx
making up my mind on how to teach my son values in life seems to be an on going struggle of what is right and wrong.
being raised in a sheltered jw life until after leaving high school seems like going from one extreme to another of being over restrictive or under.
trying to find that balance.
^^^ What Simon said.
Everytime and in every situation in life, how much better for a human being to learn to act from reason, empathy, love than out of fear of a supernatural being. Every situation.
i remember one picture of a pretty little girl holding a plastic bucket in paradise next to a tame lion.. i asked my wife if there is going to be polution in paradise?
of course the answer is no!!!!!..
i asked her where did the plastic bucket come from?
I remember one paradise food table had a Corningware blue cornflower dish on it. Huh? we thought. Then somebody said they use references that are common to us to make it more real.
Okaaaay.
sometimes people make special connections to animals.
sometimes they bond very deeply and are real friends.
yesterday was the end of such a friendship that lasted ten wonderful years.
So sorry for the loss of your mate.

long time lurker, first time poster here finally looking to get some things off my chest.
i've always been a very curious person with tons of questions about everything, and i also care deeply particularly about societal issues like social injustice, racism, and homophobia.
that, coupled with how boneheaded all the elders in my congregation are (except for one), led me to ask even more questions that led me to find ttatt.. .

I enjoyed her article and appreciate her journey. The few times I've been to Catholic services, I felt all warm and fuzzy and I don't know why.
However, all religions have their own form of disfellowshipping and punishment. I studied with a girl who became a JW and her mother vehemently opposed her every step of the way. And when children were born, my student was worried her mom was going to have them baptised in the church. I then understood the Catholics/Jews/Mormons/JW's etc. all felt the same way...that if not in their religion, all were doomed for whatever type of destruction that was the doctrine. In my student's case, her mom was scared the children were going to hell. Now I get her. It's all in the degrees the individual exercises the rules of the doctrine. Not many are as severe as JW's, but there are those that are.
I'm glad the writer found her way to happiness and peace.
