i am perhaps a bit behind on this but i have just listened to " grandma got run over by a reindeer " sung by elmo and patsy .

it got me to thinking about christmas songs in general ,so i thought a thread about people's favourite christmas songs would be good .

please share your fave christmas music , a carol or something more modern .to start i will list my best carol as hark the herald and my best ever chart song as santa claus is coming to town by bruce springsteen .

I just saw Tim Minchin live in a small venue this last Monday, and he sang his sweet "White Wine in the Sun," (mentioned earlier in this thread), which is my new favorite. It's continue to plays in my head. His message is what all those "worldy people" were trying to tell me as I tried to preach about how pagan Christmas is. I did feel guilty about not doing enough. However thankfully, it was that feeling during a WT study that gave me a moment of clarity and I never went back.

I never felt guilty about my personal actions. Ever.

This religion is about to be toast.

What stands out to me is the picture is showing a relatively young/vibrant age group...no older ones. I think that is on purpose to appeal to a younger crowd and to show what "hip" organization it is. (NOT! Same boring, tedious, destructive message.) I don't think it's a fair or accurate picture of a congregation.

if you are/were an active jw, you are now here on jwn so, for whatever your reasons, you woke up to some degree- hopefully a great degree.

so what i am saying may not apply to you.. i know that if i had not already left, i would have stormed out on the day they studied "overlapping generation.

" i am quite confident i couldn't have stayed for such an obvious switcharoo just to make the end seem imminent and try to explain how wts was wrong, but not entirely wrong in the past.. but i had to wonder how that change (or others) didn't cause most jw's to walk out.

this 8 year old sister was the youngest of the 31 who were baptized at a regional convention in bogo city, cebu, philippines on the weekend.

Funeral for an atheist

99% of all funerals that i have attended have been the wt version, where they preach about the resurrection into paradise and say little about the person who passed other than they were loyal to jah.

the other 1% catholic for grandparents.. now that i consider myself an atheist, i got to wondering what do atheists plan for when they die?.

if you are a non-believer what are your plans for when you die?

I will donate my corpse to science. I had a cousin who was an oncologist who convinced me of this.

Then I hope my family and friends have a party with my favorite food and they laugh and tell lots of stories.

Your favourite dog breed ...?

in an earlier thread, i mentioned that i wasn't a particularly doggy person but that my parents got a husky last year that i've come to regard as a kind of brother.. huskies superficially resemble wolves and for me it's been fun to compare and contrast husky and wolf behaviour.

huskies howl but rarely bark, and seem to have a strong prey drive and a strong pack instinct - a nod to their wild cousins.

this is why i love huskies, i think.. do you have a favourite dog breed and why?.

I love love love boxers. So smart and so communicative!

My best friend has a cane corso, an Italian mastiff. He is interesting...a bit aloof, but always on call as a guard dog. I like Rotts also.

small dogs, love the personality of dachshunds.
