Thank you for sharing. My condolences for your loss.
i think she was very wise in what she did. Food for thought.
so my cousin gave up her fight against bowel cancer a couple of weeks ago.
yesterday was the funeral.
i haven't experienced a green burial before.

even though, i was raised in a witness home, i never remember hearing that girl scout cookies were a no-no.
and even though i've only been baptized for a few years, i don't remember any specific admonishment of these sweet treats.
but recently at work a jdub coworker made it a point to remind me that jw's do not buy or eat girl scout cookies.
blondie - There is nothing in writing. Not even saying that your children can't join. It is done by word of mouth but I know many jws who buy and/or eat Girl Scout cookies.
Growing up JW the cookies were a no-no, and thinking about it now...no reason why! I think it was something crazy from back in the day for my parents. True, I think dubs buy them now.
Stupid religion.
in response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.
Just watched an episode of the new Stephen Hawking show "Genius." Episode 5, "What Are We?" is right in line with the discussion here.

A few simple experiments and he proves how life can actually come from a sort of primordial soup under the right circumstances...circumstances that happen all the time. As he says, so it goes in the sub-atomic world.
It is worth a look for anybody, especially Creationists.
so i was listening to this npr piece entitled "from medical maggots to stench soup, 'grunt' explores the science of warfare" (this title is a link that will take you to that article).. it is an interview on the "fresh air" npr show (ironically for the content) featuring science writer and researcher mary roach about her latest book, grunt, 'roach learned all about the medicinal use of maggots in world war i. she also purposely sniffed a putrid scent known as "who me?
" that was developed as an experimental weapon during world war ii.'.
" is a military grade stink bomb.
I know lolololol
It made me laugh when I saw my post.
It was interesting though. I heard her interview on the book about digestion etc.

Haha. Just listened to this on Fresh Air today.
Edited: ^^^that sounds odd.
so after almost a year of complete inactivity and non attendance, i ran into a nice brother from the local congregation.. after some nice chit-chat, he says "we really miss you and your family...etc...you were always the kind and supportive one, the approachable and encouraging one in the congregation.
your absence has confused so many".
i thanked him and said "oh no, no individual has stumbled us.
How many times was I told "you think too much" by "friends" trying to get me to come back.
I mean...really??? Thinking about life, death, what to believe...we shouldn't think too much about it? I didn't have a comeback then.
I think now I'd say "you say that like it's a bad thing."
hey everybody, here is our latest video on the jw summer conventions as well as our bunker skit!!!

Very good and well spoken. You have a nice inviting way of speaking that will appeal to many who are searching.
The dog bit was really funny! Not far from the truth...the old "Paradise Lost" book shows a dog falling into a huge crevice at Armageddon. We had a thread about it on here years ago, "what did the dog do" was the feeling by many. lol.
...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.
bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.
he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.
So it sounds by what you are saying, the videos are going over well with the general viewing crowd?
It amazing being out...they seem so offensive to us...hitting all the trigger points.
current media attention in new zealand is focusing on the case of a woman whose male friend died three months.
she received a handwritten letter personally addressed to her and her deceased friend with a series of questions about what happens after death.
the woman was furious and, accompanied by news media, door-knocked the address provided by the letter writer.
They are so removed for normal, human emotions they cannot see how creeeepy this really is.
Eeewww.
yes, we could have been born in an alley in calcutta or with the physical deformities associated with thalidomide.
instead, we were born into or introduced to a repressive, american, religious cult, that shielded us from the warmongering game of chess, the militaristic boy scouts, fornication-inducing sock hops, the twist, as well as the hokey pokey.
we heeded the warnings, avoiding the greedy self-worship associated with masturbation, decadent rock 'n roll and anything preceded by the word "extra-curricular.".
What rebel8 said.
Having to be a non-participant in school programs, clubs etc. where you could learn even better speaking and research skills, communication skills, team work... to me held everybody back from reaching their potential.
I too feel like a Debbie Downer, but that's how I feel about my "theocratic education." It was repressive, myopic, and held people back from development.
Who knows what talents we all could have had if we were allowed to pursue the educational system.
