No Longer Afraid
by compound complex ingreetings, dear friends and fellow survivors:.
i am grateful to be alive and associated with like-minded people, both here on this wonderful forum and in day-to-day interaction with friends, neighbors, clients, but, sadly, few if any jehovah's witnesses.
i have, somehow, become detached from the sadness and sorrow of the past, about which i have written on this and other ex-jw forums for some dozen-plus years.

Absolutely. Totally geeking out in it, and I'm not a fantasy type gal.
I'm totally immersed in it and not watching the news at all. lol.

in retrospect: RBCs vs LDCs / the hype about a lot of new construction and subsequent abrupt halt to construction
by Magnum inso, now that some time has passed, i’d like some input/thoughts/analysis/etc.
on the jw construction situation in the last few years.. first, why did they discontinue the rbc arrangement and institute the ldc arrangement?
was it for more and/or better control?

What a story Morpheus. It sickens me.
I have to remind myself the WTBS is nothing more than a corporation. Every decision has been for the corporation and to insure the continuation of the corporation. Every decision.
We had an old KH dating back to the 1920's...a small neighborhood church. The congo looked for years for a suitable property to build, and for some reason, it never happened. The congo had some wealth, and the building was paid for. Come the year 2000. The elders' starry eyes saw the scam of the RBC. They were told to get 5 bids from general contractors for the rebuild. The "corporation" took the largest bid, and that is what they charged the congregation for the construction which was done by volunteers and the RBC. Those elders are still there...serving faithfully a corporation.
Oh well...
My brother was (is??) heavily involved with the building work. I would just love to ask him WTH happened. But we aren't in a place where it can be discussed. Oh well....

Very interesting. I was raised hearing the stories about the radio station and all the different tools the WT used in the ministry. Nice to see Sydlik. He was a frequent visitor to my hall in the 90's. Always personable and friendly, wanted you to call him Dan.
Thank you for this and all you do.

Using Illegal Means for Righteous Activism
by John Davis ini wanted to get people's opinion on something.
how do you feel when people use illegal means while performing their activism to shed light on the watchtower.
there have been people who have illegally recorded conversations with elders and with branch offices or at meetings.

There comes a time when what is hidden must be uncovered for the sake of justice. Think Watergate...among many.
In a judicial hearing you can't even bring a friend or relative. Their rules are devious and harmful. They will not think twice about damaging a person's life. You must protect yourself.

Hollywood Memories: Crucified by Salvador Dali
by TerryWalstrom inhollywood memories: crucified by salvador dali.
have you ever met anybody who’s been crucified?
and no--it wasn’t a religious delusion on my part.

Yes, Gayley Ave. Most of the old restaurants are gone. Our favorite Indian restaurant was Paul Bhalla's. There was Alice's Restaurant, Falafel King, Hungry Tiger, Yesterday's, Bratskeller's, Old World, and more for eats. I'm sure after some DC we danced at Dillon's. Hari Krishna's at the Westwood Bazaar. Saw many movies, but especially remembered seeing "The Dear Hunter" at the Westwood Village theatre. We didn't speak for a good long while afterward.
A trip down memory lane:

Interesting story. That is a great painting. I do love Dali.
I know right where you were in Westwood and probably was in your gallery on any given Friday night. That was the night we visited family in BH, had dinner in Westwood, and went to the movies or strolled around the village. It's is very different now and has been for years.
Thanks for sharing.
