i’ve been visiting this site since probably around 2011. in that time, i’ve taken a lot from these discussions and never contributed anything.

i’m not sure that i have much to contribute these days because i just don’t pay too much attention to wt land.

Has Anyone Ever Outed You For Being “Apostate”?

Yes. The wife of a member on here didn't like him going to meetups or going to lunch with me, which I do understand. So instead of going to him or me discuss, she went to a "sister K" we all knew and told her I was an apostate and met regularly with apostates.

A mutual friend had just newly left the JW, and was trying to sort her journey with a husband who was still in, was asked to meet the "sister K" at a restaurant for a drink. The "sister K" just unloaded on her the whole APOSTATE thing about me. She defended me the best she could. But it created a lot of difficulties that could have been avoided. The wife's intent was clear, but she was too weak to follow Bible counsel...so it goes.

simon, i hope this is ok to post here.. for those who dont know yesterday a terrible car accident took the life of a lovely young woman leah ryan.

she was the daughter of 2 members here who go by the names of sleeping beauty and her husband hairy he goat.. leah"s sister has started an account to help fund funeral costs.

Handing a family money at a funeral if one can/chooses to, is normal and has been for decades if not centuries. Technology makes it easier for more friends to know about it and choose to contribute if they want. It's a personal decision anyway.

I'll probably donate my body to science so nobody has to deal with it.

Having been aware recently of two situations of necessity, my observation is most people like to help out where there is a need, even if it is a small amount. It feels good.

every time i go to a page i get something like a popup that says congratulations you've won a prize at amazon.

theres no way to close it out.

Library now cleared out

well, it looks like the axe has finally fallen on our kh library.

during a deep clean of the local kh, a brother suddenly informed everyone 'whikst cleaning' that all the old books including bound volumes of the watchtower etc was to be chucked in the skip.. from what i heard, some were taken aback by this and quite annoyed that no announcement was made; that no one was given the choice of taking some of these books home to keep.

i mean the entire collection of studies in the scriptures and others that go back an entire century.

Sometimes we think it’s people with hearts and minds directing this organization for the spirituality of its faithful.

But it is a corporation making the decisions to insure the existence of the corporation. Every single decision is made for that outcome.

They’ve got millions of $$$ they are trying to protect.

New rules for child sexual abuse?

a european jehovah's witness, who served in an important branch, has sent me the following rumor.. some serious sources are mentioned.

it clearly shake my perspective of what is going to happen in the coming months.. i'm totally shocked !.

the law firm managing all the interests of the wt has studied the problem in europe on data protection and actions on files and protocols of child abuse.

Interesting. Since the protection of the corporation is the utmost concern, I figured eventually something like this may happen at some point. What would be great is if anybody would save that communication about destroying records. I think in future abuse cases, it will be a slam dunk against the WT for that brilliant move.

They have savvy accountants and lawyers. Anything can happen to save the $$$.

the scaars corporation was formed october 3, 2018 by barbara anderson and former elder, roger bentley and his wife, karin.

on the home page of the scaars website, scaars.org, you will find information that explains the goal of the movement - scaars: "changing laws - changing lives.".

My JW-Related Musical Experiences

looking back over my life, the only thing that i can say i truly enjoyed as a jw was meeting and becoming friends with a number of jws who were fine musicians and had experienced various measures of success in what used to be called the "music business.

tommy reynolds, from the vocal group hamilton, joe frank & reynolds ("don't pull your love out on me, baby" and "baby, baby, fallin' in love, i'm fallin' in love again") recruited me to play drums in his dallas circuit assembly orchestra in the 1970s.

in 1977, i became friends with legendary jazz composer/arranger/band leader benny golson, whose life story appeared in the oct. 8, 1980 awake, and who appeared opposite tom hanks in steven spielberg's "the terminal.

I’m in the LA area and seeing the Phil and Tina band, Crusaders, and others perform was a usual activity, and fun. Wilton lived in my city for years and was on the speakers list and such a sweet man.

The Reasons for Cart Witnessing

whatever we think of it, you have to admit that it's quite "genius".. the door to door ministry as done in western developed countries where the jw quirky religion has probably reached their saturation level was a complete and utter waste of time in terms of the effort expended to recruit people.. at the same time, it was rarely something that anyone enjoyed which led to people being labelled as inactive, being pressured to doing more and maybe ultimately deciding jwism wasn't for them and leaving.. there was also the issue that many jws are actually pretty bad at knowing and articulating their beliefs so were pretty incapable of getting any meaningful message across.. they solved all this with the cart witnessing.

the real point isn't to recruit, it's to make life easier for jws.

now they can stand and chat with their friend, have a coffee, not talk to anyone or make eye contact and still act as a walking billboard for jw.org.

Oh it's brilliant.

And they sell it as a privilege to be able to use a cart. The org can keep the "preaching" hours up for the stats, adherents can finally be excited about the "ministry" (not) again...win win all around!

It's pretty swell.
