Sorta like Thanksgiving? JW’s bbq on the holiday, buy fireworks because it’s the only time you can, go see firework shows, all the moves but don’t “celebrate.”

July 4 th Independence Day... Do You Know Any Witnesses That Celebrated?
by minimus ini knew of a ministerial servant that was called out because he used fire crackers on the 4 th of july.
we had to have an emergency meeting as to his qualifications.
i remember imploring the body to not make a big issue over this and it was decided to just “counsel” him about being involved in a patriotic holiday.🤨.

OCT 2019 Watchtower - Survival dependant on loyalty to JW Leaders
by Listener inthere is so much wrong with the newly released october, 2019 but that's not unusual.
what stands out is there statement claiming that survival through armageddon depends on loyalty to those 'taking the lead'.
since they claim there will be a point during the gt that they (the gb) won't be physically around, jws must still be loyal to jw leaders.. whats interesting in this article is that they make it clear that they, the governing body are going to take part, from heaven, in the war of armageddon.

Before I left I asked some "former" friends the following question.
What "prophecy" did the FDS make that came true? Not Bible prophecy, not information taken from external sources, just FDS prognostications. No one came up with any, including me. The elephant in the room...1975.

Seriously, all the girls in my hall dropped out to pioneer. I begged my mom to let me, but she in turn begged me to stay in school and get my degree which I did.
I've reunited with some of these girls a few years ago and we talked about just this very thing. They got to pioneer and go to the beach everyday, and I stayed in school and had to work. It's many years later and everybody is fine. One even had a stint in Bethel, and came back during the Ray Franz thing. She returned to school, went to college, and is now a retired school teacher.
Nuckin futs I tell you. All that drama for nothing.
Edited to add: All these girls left the JW loooooong before I did. So pretty smart after all and in the end I was the dummy. sigh

Congratulations on a great meetup!
You never forget those times you spent together sharing stories of this crazy life we have all experienced. The stories are all important from the barely exited to those out for years still trying to navigate life with family still in.
Cheers mates!! Perhaps our paths will cross some day!

30 years after leaving utterly unrecognisable
by Number 6 inthis is the first time i have posted on here in many years..... i seldom visit now although this forum was instrumental to me in gaining my sanity in the early 2000's and recovering from the watchtower religion.. by chance tonight i was on youtube and caught a jw.org video which out of curiosity prompted me to look at the official website and amongst other things i looked up the music section.. why that i hear you ask?
music is my passion and nothing reminds me more or evokes more memories than the kingdom songs i grew up listening to.. i am 49 years old and my mother was baptised in 1974. i grew up in the era of pink songbooks and green bibles.
of the theology of fred franz and types and anti-types.

The place was almost empty - whereas years ago it would have been packed
Hi LHG! Okay this was odd to me also. This man was a lifetime JW/elder, covering multiple congos. I thought for sure I'd be parking on the street, nope, pulled right into a spot 10 min before. Pictured myself standing in the back, nope, got a seat. But again it's possible people have moved away that knew him, or circumstances prevented their attendance. Some did come from far away.
I'm still processing it all.

This is exciting. I know several JW's who listen faithfully to Terry Gross/Fresh Air.
Wondering if any points will land.

Wow no kidding it's changed.
I attended a memorial at a KH yesterday. I went solely because I'm reconnected with a relative who asked that I go, and I went to support them. I had just downloaded the .org app because I wanted to take a screen shot of the FAQ that said that JW's don't shun. I figured that little info would come in handy some day. I had no idea I'd be using that app to look up scriptures just a few days later sitting in a KH.
Oh my, the song. Terrible song writing. And it's so weird standing facing screens to read the words, I mean it just looks so culty.
It's a weird vibe. I can just see the expression on everybody's faces that were there...it's "man I hope this thing works out." TBH, I was so happy to see the sweet older sisters, I couldn't stop hugging them, remembering better times.
Then I left to be with the nonJW family and promptly had two vodka tonics.
