  as sgt pepper sang, "it was 20 years ago today" ... that i made my first post on my first forum.. i obviously didn't put too much thought into what it should say although i must have burned 45 posts testing things and was too lazy to reset the counter before going live (?):.

  Happy Anniversary JWD!!

  Thank you Simon and Angharad! as well as all the mods through the years.

  I was on another site, Pathways, in 2003-2004 when I "met" some of the folks that were posting here. As I checked JWD, I fell down the rabbit hole of some amazing discussions. Paradise, the flood, the Bible in general were some of the topics I always had issues with, and finding these discussions here on JWD was confirmation I was not alone.

  I have met people from all around the world from this site, as well as Canada and the USA. We are all still friends outside of the DB, and communicate regularly. Thank you for that gift as well.

  Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  Adding another observation. I work in an office where someone is ALWAYS sick, especially certain ones...and I mean always.

  I noticed a few days ago nobody is sick. No coughing, no sneezing...nothing. Seriously, it’s just never like this. I think this ongoing attention to the hand washing etc. has yielded this overall health benefit.

  I hope going forward we continue a measure of these habits.

  my area is a large city spread across two u.s. states and multiple different cities and counties.

  the area of 2.5 million is covered by parts of 4-5 different circuits.

  many of those attending meetings are at-risk individuals with health problems or age related risk.

  The WT is a corporation first and foremost. It has put the corporations existence first for decades, as that is what you do as corporation...make decisions to keep in operation. Liability is the concern for all corporations at this time.

  the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse (iicsa) is holding a public hearing in the child protection in religious organisations and settings investigation for the next two weeks.

  I didn't watch past the section about Chase being able to take the property or such, but I knew where it was going. sigh

  The WT has astute money managers and is doing quite well. Getting a bank loan to create more operating expense as a cost of doing business and putting their cash in more lucrative areas is a savvy business move.

  for those of you who've watched the witnesses documentary, let's suppose for a moment that the org was forced to make their database of abusers available to the courts.

  if this database is as detailed and meticulous as it is claimed, how in the world could the org (in its present form) survive that?

  assuming they don't go bankrupt after all of the new abuse claims, would they go underground, shut down the kingdom halls, stop the preaching?

  I don't think this will bring the WT down. It's a nuisance for them, and they have to keep figuring out how to hide money/documents, create more lawyers etc.

  I watched the new Cedars video on the Loesch's talk at the annual meeting. I thought it was interesting, the KH grabs internationally. Hey, it worked great here in the USA. And in other areas building the generic KH's that can easily be sold when needed. All of a sudden they need more KH's! I too think it's a way to generate income by investing in real estate. Unlimited funds to invest under the guise of providing places of worship and then when the time is right, they are sold.

  This child abuse issue is like thousands of stinging mosquito bites on mother. It's wonderful to watch the continued attack on the WT. Their arrogance in refusing to change their procedure, the "we will never change the two witness rule" stance...never say never buddy! The way they absolutely vilify victims, and protect the pedo, is only to protect the corporation. It is so disgusting to me.

  I really hate this organization.
