If I had to sum up this film, I would say it was beautiful to the point of being magical, intensely moving, and very bittersweet. "Cue the violins!"
Siskel and Ebert would be proud of such a comment! As for me I enjoyed it. Especially the dude who only worked out one side of his body. That cracked me up!

Lady In The Water
by gaiagirl ini just saw this wonderful film, directed by m.night shyamalan, who also directed "the sixth sense", "unbreakable", "signs", and "the village".
basically, the film illustrates some philosophical points by means of a fairy tale.
i don't think the storyline is meant to be taken as literally true, only the points which the story illustrates.

'" (nwt).

Gods own words---- " Look! Also, there was a voice from the heavens that said: "This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved." Matthew 3:17
Jesus own words----"Most truly I say to YOU, The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live. For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted also to the Son to have life in himself. John 5:25
Jesus own words----"because I have come down from heaven to do, not my will, but the will of him that sent me. This is the will of him that sent me, that I should lose nothing out of all that he has given me but that I should resurrect it at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone that beholds the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him at the last day." John 6:38-40
His followers own words----- "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." In response Jesus said to him: "Happy you are, Simon son of Jo´nah, because flesh and blood did not reveal [it] to you, but my Father who is in the heavens did." Matthew 16:13
His own follower-----"To be sure, Jesus performed many other signs also before the disciples, which are not written down in this scroll. But these have been written down that YOU may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that, because of believing, YOU may have life by means of his name." John 20:30
Jesus enemy-----"But the army officer and those with him watching over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things happening, grew very much afraid, saying: "Certainly this was God’s Son."Matthew 27:54
I can go on and on. There are hundreds of references such as the examples I cited that clearly show Jesus being, not God, but the son of God. God said Jesus was his son, his disciples said he was Gods son, Jesus enemies knew Jesus to be Gods son and Jesus himself said he was Gods son. I chose to believe them! How about you?

Those Jws and their strict policy of not resorting to violence. Darn them from keeping that young man from joining a sport that consists of smashing the opponents face in with your fists. How dare them control his mind by pounding in Christ teachings concerning how we treat others! Those wicked, wicked people. Thank God he is free from there benevolent influence, now he can do what he enjoys....beating the crap out of people in the ring!

The original sin
by onacruse inthis is a question i've had for a long time.. according to the biblical account, adam and eve's sin was to eat fruit from the forbidden tree.. now, ordinarily, when we get caught doing something "wrong," we try to hide the "offending" member (the child tries to hide his hand that has the 'stolen' cookie; we hurriedly try to pull our pants back on when mom walks in unexpectedly while we're masturbating, etc.)..
so, if the "sin" of adam and eve was eating a forbidden fruit, then why wasn't their first impulse to hide their hands?
or to wipe off their mouths?

From my understanding, yes He has the ABILITY to see everything. Ability being the key word.

onacruse,
Just from reading that account from the Bible and only the Bible, the original sin did not have anything to do with their sexual organs. As stated by the Bible in Genesis the 3rd chapter the original sin was an act of disobedience. Eating from that one specific tree was off limits.
So, if the "sin" of Adam and Eve was eating a forbidden fruit, then why wasn't their first impulse to hide their hands? or to wipe off their mouths?
That question is besides the factual point. There is no "IF" when it comes to the original sin. It is very clear within that account that it "WAS" the sin. We cannot be sure why they didn't hide their hands or wipe off their mouths, unless you mean that in the sense that God "caught" them in the act, like someone would catch a little kids hand in a cookie jar and he quickly pulls it out and hides his hands behind his back. If that is how you mean it, which is how you are putting it,
"Now, ordinarily, when we get caught doing something "wrong," we try to hide the "offending" member (the child tries to hide his hand that has the 'stolen' cookie; we hurriedly try to pull our pants back on when Mom walks in unexpectedly while we're masturbating, etc.).
then there is an answer for it. The Bible says that God did not catch them in the act, it wasn't until later on after the act, when God confronted them about it. So there is your answer! It is quit easily seen when you read it.

ELDERS DEFECTING TO OTHER RELIGIOUS GROUPS
by badboy ini understand that a jw elder in western australia defected to the sda.. have there been other cases of elfers defecting to other religious groups.
?.

Confession,
I must disagree with your statement: So in his moving his association from one human group to another, this did not mean he defected from one God to another.
It is a fact that most Religions worship Jesus as God. The JWS do not. So most likely the Church he defected to does not worship Jehovah as God like he once did.

I was an Elder and subsequently left and started going to other churches. Does that make me a "defector" any more than someone who left and didn't go??
Yes little toe it does. According to dictionary definition. Defector- "a person who defects from a cause, country, alliance, a person who abandons their duty " You as well as anyone else has the right (FREE WILL) to do as they please. Jehovah doesn't FORCE anyone to love him!

There are JWs happy to be in that org
by greendawn inwe on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?
-
agapa37
I know many happy JWS. The main reason why they are happy despite the badness that abounds within Jehovahs Organization is because they follow the example of Josiah and ones like him. You see, Josiah lived in very turbulent times within Gods organized people, Isreal. He took the throne I believe at the age of eight! Well, if anyone knows the story, Josiahs task was not an easy one. Yes, he was King of Gods people, his Organized group of worshipers, Isreal. Things were not all HUGS AND KISSES within the Organizattion. If you read up on it, there were many problems, I can say that it was worse back then, then it is now, IMAGINE THAT!
What kind of problems were there you ask? Good question Hypocracy, liars, murderers, fornicators, false servants, CONSPIRACY, IDOLATRY and any other wickedness you can imagine. They had HIGH places spread throughout the land sacrificing to false gods. I would say, that is enough to bring a FAITHFUL servant of God down back in those days. If someone were to give up serving Jehovah, those conditions were ripe for it. Not josiah! Why? Because it is recorded that he didn't follow in the footsteps of those people back then. He followed in the foot steps of his fore father David. He DID what was right in Jehovahs eyes despite all the hypocrites around him. He didn't allow all the hypocracy and negativity get to him. He clung to people who were DOING WHAT WAS RIGHT IN JEHOVAHS EYES and to God Himself and persevered.
It is NO DIFFERENT today. We are encouraged to put up a fine fight for the faith. Those words let us know that it won't be easy! So I guess my answer to your question would be............why do others feel happy being there?Because they are doing what is right in Jehovahs eyes just like Josiah!
