Why do you believe the bible? or not?
by AiAi inwhen i began questioning the religion i used the bible and their own statements to prove them wrong.
now, recently, i have began to realise that maybe the only reason i put any faith in the bible is because i was always raised to.. so my question is, after leaving the watchtower, what was it that made you decide the bible was worthy of belief?.
i am not asking about any continuing belief in god or disbelief, i am more conscerned about the first step (to me) right now of the bible itself.

Zechariaha Sitchin says Exodus 19: 16-19 is a space ship from Nibiru, which goes along with the Sumerian text
and the Epic of Gilgamesh. You think its a volcano?

Do Ex-JWs have reason to be disgruntled?
by sabastious ineverytime i have ever told an active jw about this forum and described it's designation they all, in essence, say the same thing.. they say that we are nitpickers, that we are all just rubbed the wrong way and can't get out of the state of disgruntlement that we have allowed ourselves to enter.
some throw in supernatural elements some just stick to human imperfection and call it murmurings.. these kind of assertions highly imply that our anger is exaggerated or misguided; that we don't have all facts and are drawing highly speculative conclusions.. as participants on this forum how do you refute such a claim?.
my first thought would be to point out that "murmurings" is what created the watchtower to start with.

I've been out of the tower since 83. I have read the bible cover to cover 7 times since leaving the tower.
I had never read it cover to cover in the 31 years I was a Jw. I still read the bible regularly.
I read Eccleiastes every couple of months and Psalms and Proverbs often.
I think I could find any book without looking in the index.
The bible is one way to make sense of this life. And it has good advice in Proverbs.
Thats the bible not the JW way of twisting the bible.
For me the bible is good if you keep it simple, if you try to get all complicated and try to figure
out when the world is going to end and try to use the bible to controll others it doesn't work.

If prayer worked all the time, there would be no drama, no mystery, we couldnt have or be saved by faith.
We would be bored out of our gourds.
Where we came from in heaven, with God, part of God, as spirts, thats how it was and we were so bored
we decided to come down here but when we got on the ride we had to give up memory of who we are and
where we are from.
Its the greatest show on earth.

I've prayed all my life. I wish I could say it was more effective than 50%.
But for me it seems 50% effective. A placebo can be 50 to 60% effective especially in psychosymatic issues
pain, depression, some heart ailments, ulcers.
It's kind of like nuerolinguistic prograiming without having to pay or listen to Tony Robbins.
I work in a jail and a lot of the officers tell me they pray. We even pray as a group after muster before entering
the cell blocks. 50% effectiveness seems better than 5 or 10% effectiveness.
A lot of life coaches, popular gurus, write and teach "You will see it when you believe it"
You have to hold a thought so you can become
a heat seeking missle to strike your target. You have to tell the universe what you want to get it.
Prayer can help you focus and hold a thought, pray for what you want every day.
There are other ways to get what you want without praying, but still similar to prayer.
Make a list of what you want, and first thing everyday read it.
If you have psychoschamatic issues, you could self hypnotize yourself and plant positve affirmations in
your brain at your alpha brain level.
If there is no God at the very least your speaking to your higher self whey you pray, and hopefully
you are smart enough to pray to God but tie up your camel, or realize that God helps those who
help themselves.
The way I see it you can get 50% of everything you want by praying.
You can get 50% of what you want by using pop psychology.
But there are a lot of people in this world and country that are only getting 10, 20% of what they want.
Because they are not holding the thought of what they want. Prayer can be one way of holding the thought.
