THE END IS NEAR
by Mary inwith all the ridiculous hype amongst the dubs about how this new tract is going to help bring about "the end", i thought it would be beneficial to highlight how often they've been crying that the sky is falling in the last 1/2 century:.
***w50 2/15 p. 54" stick to your work"*** now is the time to live and work as christians, especially now, for the final end is near.
*** the time of the end is near!

Last week we had about 75 in attendance at our TMS/Service Meeting. This week we had: ... 132!
The circuit servants visit is a big deal in witness land. Almost like the popes in town.

A funny prayer...out of the mouths of babes....
by megsmomma inthis story is cute in a way....but also disturbing since it does show how jw's brainwash their young.. when my daughter was 5 she was visiting me and at night i would listen to her pray (at that time i was still not free from the guilt, ect) well, she started out "dear jehovah....ooohhhhhhh jehovah......(sounded just like her dad) thank you so much for this food we're about to recieve..." no, we were not about to eat!
i had to see she was imitating what she had heard many times....and i laugh, but it makes me sad too.
at least i know that their truth really isn't in her heart....just her brainwashed mind, and for some reason....i think that is much better..

Your children will behave as you raise them in most cases. It depends on how big of a role you want to play in their life. The part you dont play someone else will. It could be good or bad. They are your children and their mind is like a blank sheet of paper and for the first 18 years you have a tremendous say on what is recorded on that blank sheet of paper.

Curiosity dictates a question like this...
by Juniper inhave any of you out there ever taken the "opposite route" and studied paganism or wicca?.
i know of some that practice that.
but i've been thinking about what a strange irony that would be, right?

Have any of you out there ever taken the "opposite route" and studied paganism or Wicca?
I read a book on black magic. But personally I'm not jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. What I have left after 31 years in the watertower society is my life. I'm not giving it to anybody else. Organization man spirit or demon. And up to this point God hasnt contacted me.

JW attitude toward death
by love2Bworldly ini was just remembering how when i lost my non-jw brother when i was a teenager, that my witness friends were not very supportive when he died.
he died in his sleep at age 22, and he was a very nice person.
i remember crying at school and my jw friends were like, oh brother it's already been a week!

Then the Watchtower had articles years later about how it was ok to grieve a lost loved one, and that some people take longer than others to heal. That pissed me off, because I thought to myself--why do I need the Watchtower to tell me how long I have permission to grieve for a lost loved one?
Now being out of the organization for years, I see how rediculous it was for us to look to the organization to tell us how to behave in so many different areas of our life. It shows how people are looking for direction in life, hence they are sheep. If you are not smart enough or wise enough to think for your self than you end up being a jw or baptist or catholic, or Mason or moslem, mormon etc...
Maybe religion is a spiritual kindergarden. Sooner or later you got to move on to the 1st grade!

Can someone explain why JW's use, "BCE, CE, etc" ???
by WingCommander ini always thought this weird, even as a child.
i think i remember asking, but never really getting an answer.
what does the "e" stand for when they use dates like "607 bce", etc?

This is something that I have noticed people in the United States do, not just the witnessess. Time before the birth of Jesus or the birth of the ledgend of Jesus is refered to as before the Christian era. BCE. CE would be Christian error. If you pick up a copy of the world almanac in America the last one I looked at a number of years ago said somthing like recorded history began 4000 years before the birth of Jesus in Sumeria. That would be like 4000 BCE. Todays date would be 11/18/2006 CE or AD. AD is something like ado dani, off the top of my head, Im sure I'm spelling it wrong, which also means the year of our lord, or christian era. These are the designations that are given to time in secular history, in Ameriaca. I would guess that the catholic church has a strong influence on this dating system. You might say that man is both material and spiritual. Or man is being controlled or strongly influenced by religion.

Are you really free from the Watchtower?
by yaddayadda inthe thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.
i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.
the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

They have simply swapped mental slavery to a religious organisation for mental slavery to a religious website. So the question is: until the day comes when you finally stop feeding your JW website addiction, can you really, honestly, say you are FREE from the Watchtower???
I've been out for 23 years. I believe we are the sum total of all our life experiences. I was in the organization for 30 so that experience will always be apart of me. I believe whatever doesnt kill me makes me stronger as a person. I have been working 12 hour days lately and when I come home I enjoy posting here, it helps me to unwind. And for one thing there is a counter and I want to see how high I can get. For another I know something about the topic. Then you say can you really, honestly say you are free of the Watchtower, one thing I can tell you about, that is since leaving the society I dont have to be honest about anything, I'm free! Is the person who watches football, or soap operas or situation comedys better off than me because I come here? Maybe with your wisdom you can tell me the purpose of life and how I should live mine. And after that I got a bridge down here in Florida I can sell you, Hell, I have a whole load of bridges for you.

Question for ex-JWs who are Christians
by whyizit ini noticed that many who post here have kind of thrown the "baby out with the bathwater", when it comes to the bible and god.. i understand that there is a fine line between love and hate.
maybe they blame god for the deception.
maybe they don't trust anything to do with god any more.

It was no problem for me to return to "real" Christianity: once one realizes Watchtower is a cult the rest is easy.
If the watchtower is a cult, which I agree with you on. Dont you understand that your real christianity is a cult of jewery, thats why you have the old testiment. Jesus said, like the watertower many here today will see paradize and they died waiting. Jesus also said many would do greater works than he did. History has no record let alone multiple records of people resurrecting dead people, Jesus said many, It hasnt happened.

Anyone else do this in the morning?
by free2beme ini get up each morning and turn on the news, right as i get out of bed.
not because i want some news to start the day, but rather this is often been a major moment in my life.
i remember turning it on one morning and hearing about the first trade tower bombing, turning it on and hearing about the oklahoma city bombing, turning it on and seeing the trade towers burning (well, one of them, i watched the second plane hit live).

So lately I have just been expecting to turn that on and see some terrible live coverage of something that makes my jaw drop. Headlines like ....
What I would suggest is reprograming your self with some positive self talk. And then I wouldnt watch the news or read the papers. Thats what I did when I first left the organization. The news and papers are very negative on top that the jw's are an organization of negativity. They have been preaching destruction and doom from day 1 of their sorry exhistance. You have to change the things you can, accept the things you cant change. While I pass on this advice to you. It was given to me by professional counselors. If your happy being paranoid, rock on. And dont forget to tune into the radically republican Fox net work and Bush's empire of fear.
