She also says she was dealing ecstacy at 15. Buying a pill or 2 then flogging them to your school mates is not dealing.

Pull the other one. But, it's nice work if you can get. She's already made more money than I'll ever in my life so fair play to her. It's only entertainment at the end of the day.

I heard they spent $50,000 putting special acoustic ceiling tiles in an assembly hall once. I bet it didn't make any difference to the sound quality. I wonder who gets to vote on those issues. If that's true I would have thought that could be better spent on halls in timbuktu or buying those new fangled cell saver machines.

Years ago, this old guy voted against buying new chairs for the hall. We were going through a quick build and were presented with three options:

1) clean the old chairs and give them a lick of paint. cheapest

2) buy new plastic chairs. cheap

3) buy new comfy foam chairs. expensive

The chap doing the announcing added that the BOE's position was to buy new comfy foam chairs (I see nought wrong with that - they had to state their position). Everyone voted for new comfy chairs. He voted for a lick of paint - he held his hand up with real style so everyone would see the dissent. He was an interesting chap, the old boy. I'll post a good story about him one day - it involves understanding that famous "generation".

Good questions.

1) I suppose I was at times, but only fearful of what certain people thought. I went through a few stages of being quite JW serious, ususally cos I fancied a girl (it seemed that you had to be seen to be making an effort if you wanted to bag that nice witty girl) and I wanted her folks to see me as a nice young brother. So I suppose I was fearful of how others saw me. Pretty shallow reasons for wnting to be a good little witty boy with hindsight. Is it any wonder I didn't have a JW girllfriend?!

2) Yes, for the following reason. When I was 19 we had a family debate (as we always did at lunch) I started questioning the WT sin gene theory and basically said it was a load of tripe. Queue angry scenes as they said if the WT said it must be true. I said what about 1975? Queue very angry scenes - one of my grandparents accused me of attacking their faith and threatend to "bury you in a hole in the garden". That was quite a traumatic experience really, I was very naieve then and thought you were allowed to question things. I decided not to ask any more questions after that.

3) I'm too new to comment really, but I hope ths board is the polar opposite of the WTBTS - a place where any questions or comments can be made without threat of being burried in the garden! I am going to speak my mind on this board. I'm not a racist or a bigot so I shouldn't step on too many toes!

I am completely paranoid.

I still have my suspicions that this site is run by the GB, everyother poster is a stooge who eggs you on to spout more and more apostacy until they have enough evidence on you to hang you out to dry. I'm still not happy that my IP address is on the posts.

To register on this site I set up a new, untraceable email account that is used only for this, and I made up my screen name with the most unlikely name I could think of so it would be untraceable. I have changed my writing style and the words I use. I delete my history and restart the computer after everytime I log on to this board.

Me paranoid? Pah! Seriously tho, could this board be run by the thought police, i mean GB? Could it? Could it?!

Did your JW social life only consist of meals at a friends home?

i know many here who have had good and bad jw social experiences.

some went camping, hiking etc, went to the beach.

some had no social life at all in the org and some had congregations where nothing ever happened socially.. i know of one sister, who has since left, who complained that the only thing witnesses did when they got together, was share a meal.. now, there's nothing wrong with sharing a meal.

Hello everyone, good topic by the way.

The social life of my parents was excellent. They are very welcoming people and are happy to have everyone round. They are not well off people at all, but everyone would be made to muck in and we'd then have full congregation get togethers at the house (i mean full congregation, not just the "in-crowd" - these happened in summer and be in the garden, everyone wouldn't fit into our house!) These would usually start early afternoon - adults would chat, us kids would play then in the evening we'd all play board games or just chat around. Sometimes people would bring guitars and sing some songs (not kigdum melodies btw). They were always having people over for dinner, usually twice a month a family or 2 would come over for dinner etc on Sat night. They always used to invite the visiting speaker back on sunday, even if they didn't know them. We sometimes used to put up the strays and waifs that drifted through as well. When we moved in the mid 80's, the cong we went to was real old school. No new members for years, BOE dominated by the local families etc, very reserved and it first caused a bit of stir that the get togethers were organised. I think it would be fair to say they changed that cong for the better in their own way. Now their socail life is just as good, but I would say they have settled into their own little scene now, but their scene isn't really the other elders families - more the friends they've known for years.

My social life growing up was awesome, but prob for the wrong reasons! Almost every weekend, with few exceptions, from the age of 16 were spent getting smashed at either the pub or someones house when the folks were away. I first went to a proper ravey night club when I was 16. I was a regular at the trendy bar in town at age 16 with all my pals (all good JWs). All my school friends were jealous of my social life. It was excellent and still is - perhaps why I'm reluctant to finally say bye bye to some of the excellent friends i have (I know conditional friends, but friends nonetheless). I hardly had any "worldly" friends until I was early 20's. I suppose I have been lucky - got no complaints me, but i do know some kids that didn't fit in and were excluded in a way. I should have made more of an effort with hindsight.

as per the classic pictures in the 80's books - all women looked like hookers, all men were pictured smoking or with a whisky bottle.. did others here have similar opinions.. i remember being 8 or 9 and my idea of a worldly man was a picture in the pale blue (creation book) or the red one (dunno the name) - i'll try and scan the picture i mean one day, it's brilliant.

Good letters. I hope you achieve the desired results.

I've just had 2 thoughts on this. Some people really won't like the second - I am NOT an apologist.

1) It's rally heartbreaking when your dad wrote "one day it (the beach) will all be ours". Knowing that this will never come true for him, but he will always live in hope. I do admire his faith and ability to believe, however. I think I do not possess these capacities anymore, which is my loss.

2) I can easily imagine the dialogue that led to the WTS getting on the UN NGO list. I would have thought it cock-up rather than conspiracy. I can easily imagine some twat researcher, with only a couple functional neurons, approaching the UN library desk:

"So what do I have to do to use the library"

"You have to become an affiliate NGO"

"Not sure what that means, but how do I do that?"

"You sign here"

"OK"

Realise mistake 10 years later.

"Whoops! We joined the "disgusting thing" fan club - better leave and do it quietly or we'll look like complete twats"

Too late to not look stupid, but I think the WTS joining the UN and having the arrogance to think no-one would mind or notice is giving WTS too much credit. I bet it was some minion who set it all up without realising the full consequences. Again, I am NOT an apologist. It is complete hypocrisy to denounce the UN in the venomous manner that the WTS has, whilst at the same time be affiliated to support the causes of the UN, even if only on paper.

Absolutely (r.e. the ones that come and go), but what about the hardcore few? I'm sure the posters with 1000 or so under their belt have "recovered" or have found out all they need to know about WTBS, but why are they still here? I'm not trying to offend anyone.

I've not been here long and have spent HOURS going through various posts - if I did this for a year or 2 I'd be exausted!

I suppose you need the regulars though or this board wouldn't exist.

Issuing a Challenge to Atheists and Unbelievers, part II (get your popcorn)

question for atheists and unbelievers alike part ii in our last discussion, the focus of attention was whether or not.

As far as a God/ god goes I would say the jury is out. Atheism or Theism each takes a leap of faith. I am not prepared to take such a leap in either direction.

As far as life on other planets go I would say the jury is out.

Don't the Scientologists and Mormons think human kind came from an other planet? The concept of life on ther planets is not dependant on a belief in God/ god.

A science teacher once explained to me that, although the chances of "life" occuring spontaneously in the universe are extremely small, since the universe is such a very large place even an event that has a very small chance of occuring will occur somewhere in the universe.

When the Hubble telescope was launched, the astronomers pointed it at an area of space they thought was black and empty. They saw hundreds of thousands of galaxies (galaxys?), each containing millions (perhaps billions?) of stars. These stars could each have planets orbiting them. That's a lot of planets in only a tiny area of space (as seen from earth). That's an awful lot of planets in total. The chances of one of these supporting life is therefore quite reasonable overall.

As far as the reports of people experiencing paranormal/ alien phenomena, in my opinion, I think that a lot of it has to do with power of suggestion and a persons disposition to a certain idea. Aren't most of the people who claim to be abducted by aliens alien-fanatics anyway? How many atheists experience miracles? I think, again only IMHO, that people see what they want to see.

I would still say the jurys out though. Never say never.
