  Isn't it amazing how we read the same material but interpret it completely differently.

  I see absolutely no bashing of the mother, infact the complete opposite.

  I would say most of us who were JWs would have done exactly the same.

  I am embarrased/ashamed/disgusted with myself, but I too would probably sacrificed my life and the life of my loved ones for the Watchtower. Luckily I was never put into that position.

  The shame of it is that they actually believe the ***** the WT spouts. Those poor people involved will be completely devastated when one day they realise the sham.

  is there anyone out there well-versed in the 'shepherd' book and judicial proceedings?.

  a wee bit o' background..... i have been 'out' for about 3 years now.

  I was fading and spoke strongly to an elder who called, about a few issues. A few days later I had a call it was from an elder at the KH to ask whether I considered myself a JW. I didn't want to answer that directly because I thought they would use my answer to say I had DA'd myself. So after avoiding answering the question he finally asked if they could come and see me. I said something like, "no, I wouldn't bother"

  I was expecting to be hounded, however I have been left alone, that was probably over a year ago now.

  The reason I now reckon is because somewhere in the shepherding book it says if someone has been out for a while and don't consider themselves a JW then they can be left and not DF'd even if they are doing wrong. However, if you agree to meet with them you are showing yourself as still under their authority and therefore are likely to be DF'd if you are "doing wrong".

  Conclusion is, from my experience, don't meet with them.

  although, after experiencing many disappointments and failed dates, i cannot let go and i cannot dismiss the expectation that god will intervene somehow.

  i still hold on, hoping that maybe i will not experience sheol and neither will some of my loved ones.

  I reckon I didn't really believe the A thing when I was a dub. Because I don't think it ever bothered me on coming out.

  Having said that there are other issues that I may find hard to get over.

  Remember the WT are masters at mind control (so much so that as JWs we felt like we were fully in control of our thinking!). So it will take time to overcome.

  for 18 months i have been at loggerheads with my wife over the wts.

  she has been the perfect watchtower slave even declaring that she'll never leave the truth.

  i decided not to interfere in her life, attacking the society, and the idiots in the hall, but recently things have changed for the best.

  It was memorial time last year that my wife came out, similar sort of circumstances.

  I am so pleased you waited for her. I am sure it was tough at times.

  We too had an understanding about not discussing the "truth", after I realised it was utter BS, I explained just one or two issues. My wife who was brought up a dub started to miss meeetings and ministry. I would go with her to the meetings though. She managed to open her eyes to some hypocrisy (something quite trivial really). Then she finally came to the conclusion that she didn't want the "New System" the way of the WT.

  However, when she first spoke to me about it last year (memorial time, they kept coming round but we never answered) she was frightened as she was obviously still very conditioned. I did call the WT "baloney" which made her a bit defensive and she didn't think she would ever be able to celebrate xmas!! that soon changed!

  It took a few years but we are both well and truly out. I just hope for all of you with spouses in that they see sense too.

  So my advice fwiw is be patient, there will be times it feels that they will never come out, but the wait and agony is well worth it!!

  nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

  in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

  there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

  In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book LifeEverlasting—inFreedomoftheSonsofGod, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.

  In its issue of July 15, 1976, TheWatchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: "If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." In saying "anyone," TheWatchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including personshavingtodowiththepublicationoftheinformation that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.
