Do Jehovah's Witnesses represent a less legitimate form of religious expression?

i am at a point where i tend to think all religions are rubbish.

the bible is not a book to lead one's life by and not deserving of much respect.

if jesus existed then the gospels are not an accurate picture of his life and even if the non-supernatural elements resembled a real person there is much to repudiate as there is to admire.. so what about comparing jehovah's witnesses to other faiths?

I think LeavingWT makes some good points.

I'd like to add that if we reduce religious membership/participation to an economic transaction, then JWism amounts to highway robbery.

This is not necessarily the case for other religious organizations. Why do people remain a part of various religions, even after being fully exposed and cognizant to the same information that causes others to renounce any sort of religious belief or affiliation?

I posit that people are getting something out of it that they need. Perhaps religious expression is part of being human. Perhaps "man does not live by bread alone" has an element of truth to it.

Bristol Palin and her typical black & white right-wing / religious mindset

so, bristol palin is through to the final on dancing with the stars even though it's obvious to everyone with half a brain that she doesn't deserve to be based on her dancing.

she's there simply because the obsessive palin fundies are voting for her.. i thought it was interesting listening to her describe people who think she shouldn't be there as "the haters".. what black and white thinking and typical of the religious / right-wing mentality.

people can't have an opinion that is based on reality and see that better dancers were voted off while she stayed way past her skill level warranted.

Somehow, I can't see Bristol doing that. She'll happily stand there waving the trophy knowing full well she hasn't "won" it.

Actually, the viewer voting is not for best dancer...but for favorite dancer. By that definition, it is a popularity contest...and she can legitimately say she won it, if she wins the popular vote. (the best dancer is not necessarily the favorite)

doesn't apply to Bristol and Sarah. You would think with all that dancing she'd be burning some calories, I guess not.

You can clearly see the Yup'ik genes she got from her father. They tend to be thick built.....you...YOU... RAAAAAAAAAAACIST!

On a serious note, I don't see a good way out of this. A weak response encourages them, a strong response could start a war. Another Korean was would set the S Koreans back sixty years.

There isn't much we can do, which is why North Korea gets away with murder. North Korea would inflict grievous damage on South Korea before being halted. South Korea is one of the greatest, most advanced nations on the planet. But North Korea is the most militarized nation on the planet.

That is why we haven't done anything.

Seoul, which I hear is a beautiful city, could get leveled in a matter of hours. At 35 miles from the border, it is within artillery range of North Korean guns north of the border. A lot of artillery, however, would have to move closer to the border and expose itself.

They've got missiles, of course, and possibly tunnels running up to a kilometer behind the DMZ.

I think Krauthammer makes an excellent point.

North Korea is a valuable proxy for the Chinese government. It is a pressure point against the American led group of nations in the region (and the US itself.)

The last thing the Chinese want is the nuclearization of S Korea and Japan. That is a huge bargaining chip that can be used to get them to either lean on North Korea, or give us a freer hand in dealing with them without having to worry about Chinese repercussions.
