whats it all about?
by andyg inmy mum used to be a jw, she was baptised after about 3 years and carried on for about another 2. she first started taking me to the meetings when i was about 8, and carried on week after week until she was disfellowshipped (she went a bit mad and left home, but that's by the by).
the point is im 21 now and trying to make sense of the stuff i was brought up with for 5 years.
if anyone could shed light on one or two things i'd be most grateful (and some of it i might have wrong anyway).. - before noah's flood, all animals were vegetarian.

As I say, AndyG, each one of these could be a thought and discussion provoking question. You might do well to just bring these out individually spaced out over a few days or week or so.
I also want to point out a thread that is currently active on the cross issue...

First of all, WELCOME Andyg!!!
My goodness, you DO have some questions, don't you? Good grief, each one of these questions might have been a thread all by itself.
I think you have taken a lot of us aback with so many thought-provoking questions at once, you will see that the majority of the topics on this board change quickly, there are SO MANY OF US ON HERE all over the world in every time-zone, so in addition to wanting to welcome you, I wanted to respond, which "Bumps thread to top" (you will see some posts that just say "bttt" just for that purpose alone, to keep it on the active topic page.
Hahahaha other than that give us some time to deal with these questions that could go on forever in discussion. For now I'll answer the easy one:
Yes, the songbook has been updated. During my childhood, it was a bilious freakish pink color, and in the early to mid 1980's they came out with the "new" brown hardback one. They kept some of the songs, and added many new ones. This came out just before I left, so I don't know all the new "Kingdom Melodies" even tho I was born and raised in. Just as well, really!
Again, WELCOME! We're glad you're here. -

Invisible scars ... Watchtower flashbacks
by The wanderer inuntitled document <!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana} .style2 {font-family: verdana; font-style: italic; } --> painful reminders every so often the reminders of being one of jehovah's witnesses.
comes back to haunt me in a watchtower flashback memory.
times it is an old suit or an old book bag.

That's why we're here for you, Darlin'. We are all having the same damned flashbacks. It gets easier, trust me. I have been out for over 20 years.
Just remind yourself how completely amazing and awesome you are that you managed to get out and survive. And anytime you have one of these flashbacks, turn it into thanks and pats on the back.
Strength to you!!! -

Are "Apostates" jumping the gun with their info on the WT to make a case?
by booker-t ini take some of the things apostates say with a "grain of salt" because many times i think they embellish the truth to make the wt look bad to make their case.
for example i have for years heard that the wt uses "satanic" images in their artwork but i have yet to see any proof of these accusations.
i have heard that jw's no longer practice "disfellowshipping" but my teenage niece was recently "disfellowshipped".

Perhaps, but remember that this is a DISCUSSION board. Remember, when you were a JW, when you were not ALLOWED to DISCUSS things? Remember when you were not allowed to examine the evidence? Remember when you were not allowed to doubt, or ask questions, or Google for info to make up your own mind?
I remember. And I love this site. We were lied to before, we were told we had the (T)ruth... now we are allowed to search for it. -

Sting Rays Being Slaughtered and Mutilated in Irwin backlash
by Crumpet inhttp://uk.news.yahoo.com/12092006/140/irwin-backlash-stingrays-slaughtered.html.
at least 10 stingrays have been found dead and mutilated on australia's eastern coast since crocodile hunter steve irwin was killed by one of the animals last week.
the killings have prompted fears of "revenge attacks" against the normally docile fish.

Watchtower researchers: Want to see something really cool?
by under_believer indanny probably already knows about this... check it out, google just launched a new service called google news archive search.
hint: try typing in "jehovah's witnesses" in quotes just like that and then clicking the "show timeline" button.
i'm sure you can think of many other watchtower-related terms to look for.

Yes! Character recognition is the way to go, per Unique's suggestion, but as already stated, you will have to clean it up a bit with keyboard text here and there. Character recognition is only PARTIALLY godly. Does anyone know if Kinko's or similar has character recognition scanning/disk services?

Sad thread. my cat is dead. looking for sympathy.
by avengers into all of you who know what it is to miss a loved pet.. i never knew in all my jdubb years that it can hurt so much when an animal dies.
i never knew that a man could get attached to a cat.
when i was a dubb i would not allow the kids to have a housepet 'cause then you couldn't spend as much time in service.

Oh, Honey, yes I feel your pain. Our fuzzy four-footeds are our family, too... they are immensely and intensely part of our life and love.
No one can attempt to tell ME that they don't have souls. Hugs to you, Darlin'. Please, try not to be too hard on yourself for leaving him with the non-caretaker. I know that's hard... but Toby has already forgiven you, so forgive yourself.
Hope you don't think it too odd for me to include this, but here is a gorgeous ritual for release of the dead. The author uses it for beloved pets, too.

Hugs.
