Anyone else having this problem with Witness Friends and Relatives
by Evidently inthey are all over me with all of these "end of this system of things" signs......earthquakes, cyclones, pestilences, cost of food to lead to food shortages, blah, blah, blah....did they make an announcement at the kh that "this is it!!
" they say that we've never had all of these things happening all at once like we've had the past few weeks...... .

Ummmm, yes.......that about sums it up.
I also remind them of the Great Depression.....people were jumping out of windows for goodness sake. Also, the Cyclone that hit Burma was surely a nasty one, but it struck a spot where they had no preparation for a storm like that. If a storm of that strength had hit the US (as one has) there would certainly be some loss of life, but nothing on the scale of what happened in Burma. For that matter the same goes for the earthquake in China. These events are only prevalent because of the loss of life in undeveloped (poor) areas of the world. Otherwise they would have been blips on the screen for world events.

obviously the doctrine is way different, but there are so many similarities: the haunted look in so many eyes, the oppressively patriarchy, the lack of feeling, the use of fear and separation for control, the whole everyone-else-is-evil mentality.

Meeting schedule rearranged...WHY?
by sir82 inofficial speculation thread.... even if a reason is given for the meeting rearrangement when it is announced on 4/27, we all know how the society spins things (e.g., awake magazine being reduced to one issue per month to "put more emphasis on the bible" real reason.. .
so why is the society doing this?
on the surface, it seems to be a loosening of control.

Alex Lifeson - Rush.......My ears are ringing right now from seeing them live last night......his unique ability to fill space, it is amazing how much music the 3 of them put out in a live concert.

One possible motive that may be really "off the wall"......
With the multiple pending lawsuits (lets face it they have opened themselves up for a litigation nightmare over the next decade with both the pedophile delimma and the soon to become more prominent blood policy) they are going to be looking for ways to HIDE money. Having all of that Brooklyn real estate is to "showy" of their wealth, they need to tone it down a little.
Additioanlly. with all of that capital liquid, they can better hide that money offshore or other inconspicuous locations to "make" themselves not look so wealthy.

My insane JW friend takes me to lunch...
by sooner7nc inyesterday, i get a call at work from my old jw buddy, who btw doesn't know my true feelings on religion.
he offers to buy lunch so we go to a local burger joint, sit down, and start swapping stories like always.
we see each other once or twice a week, share many common interests, and generally get along well.
