  My JW roommate and the false religion tract

  my roommate who is disabled was in the hospital for a couple of days last week (nothing too serious).

  one of the 'sisters' from the hall brought her a few of the tracts to hand out while she was in the hospital (like to nurses and whoever).

  she hasn't been to the meetings for a while because she hasn't been feeling well so this was the first time she had seen them.

  In my current cong., lesbians are there but they deny their relationships (to the brothers).
  The elders are not usually going to get involved in these situations because
  there are not 2 eyewitnesses to any sinning, and they are very uncomfortable
  trying to "out" anybody as this could backfire (make people think the elders are
  extreme control freaks).

  In your situation, the added burden of what to do with the sister comes up.
  If they insist she leaves the "worldly lesbian roommate" knowing that she is
  disabled and without family, the congregation would truly be responsible for her.
  That would be great if they wanted to live up to their responsibility, but they virtually
  never do want to. They will view you as somebody their sister can take advantage of-
  a worldly person supporting a sister in her ministry. But truly, they will most likely
  overlook the situation because they don't want to care for the sister, themselves.

  If I plan a EXJW cruise would any of you come?

  i could put together a 5 day 4 night trip out of any port along the east coast?

  we could just call it the friends get together lol even though large gatherings is a no no... meaning it is supposed to be kept secret or clickish to be ok with the jws.... i guess it would expose us though, we would run into some old friends and say hey you left too?

  it could be fun thugh i have a trip coming up out of nyc to canada 7 days 6 nights for september 2, cabins start at 750.00 per person and a suite for around 1850.00 per person.

  While I, as a fader, would not go on this cruise, I think it is a great idea.

  I only wish I could start meeting with you all. If my fading ever fails, I will.

  I have read your posts about this situation before. You are a wonderful caregiver. Your roommate may not be totally immersed in JW allegiance, yet feels the need to go to their meetings. One day, she may move more toward the door away from JW's, but even if she does not, you have shown her true care, love.

  Outsider: Totally immersed in that nutty religion cult.

  Do you truly WANT the Watchtower to collapse? If so why?

  there are the abuses of course, the diabloical 'two witness' rule applied to allegations of molestation, the reckless 'blood ban' in all it's tortuous complexities (which by watchtowers own admission has resulted in many fatalaties) and the cruel punishment of shunning which has caused so much suffering and pain to many of us here.. is it for these reasons that you want to see the watchtower fall or is it simply that you want to see them humiliated and broken for what they've done to you?

  most of us aren't bitter or selfish enough to want personal revenge against the watchtower but i'd be lying if i said i didn't sometimes think like that.. the reason for my original question is that i sometimes feel a bit hypocritical.

  i try to accord respect to jw's and individuals of all faiths, (yes, even when i go off on one of my atheistic diatriabes) but whereas i allow myself to be hostile to the watchtower i shrink from being so forthright against other 'christian' faiths whose corrosive nature may not be so easily apparent but is there nonetheless.. i guess my question is; why do we want the watchtower to fall but do not wish all religion to fall?.

  I know the Organization Behind the Name "Jehovah's Witnesses" and I know its strengths and weaknesses. I can have maximum impact on that organization, simply because I know it. The fact that it has damaged me (and continues to damage me through my family) in no way makes my efforts a matter of revenge.

  I support AuldSoul's viewpoint. I also want to add that there are good people caught in the cult.
  I would love to free, not only my family, but many of my good friends, and all others from the effects of this cult.

  I suppose that, if they totally abandoned their cult views (Governing Body is directed by God, shunning, the end
  is imminent, recruitment tactics) then they would just be another mainstream religion. Who would care if they
  stuck around then? That will never happen, so just as a former Moonie would love to help others out, I would
  love to help JW's out.

  Since my fading is for selfish reasons, I doubt that I will ever become a zealous anti-JW, but if I were DF'ed, I
  am certain that I would take a more active role in exposing this cult as dangerous.

  i've been reading this board for over a year.

  have read several books: crisis of consience, apocalypse delayed, who wrote the bible, the bible unearthed.

  Welcome to the way most people have to face life- saying "I want to know, but I don't know what truth is."

  This is the Black-and-White thinking that I fight:
  Either there is a God or there is not.
  If there is a God- Either He inspired the Bible or He did not.
  If He inspired the Bible, then He wants us to learn it's value.
  If He did not inspire the Bible (or if there is no God), then the Bible is just Men's thoughts.

  Either way, most groups of men mislead people with the Bible.
  I am on my own to decide what "truth" is, but that means I will never be 100% sure.

  I say I fight this thinking because it is so FINAL. Just knowing if there were a God
  would not automatically allow me to know who he is, what he is like, what he expects.
  Even if he inspired the Bible, it would not tell me if what we have today is his thoughts
  or those of the men who interpret it, I would still have to decide how to use the Bible.
  Even if he did not inspire the Bible, it has value to us, today.

  Science will keep updating itself, proving that what we "knew" years ago was wrong.
  Enjoy the learning process. Expand your mind. Keep searching.

  There is no doubt in my mind that the JWs are not the one true religion. But the next question is then what to belief.

  I totally relate to that. Many ex-JW people are Black-and-White-Thinkers. There must be a right way and the others are wrong ways. I fight that feeling constantly, but still have it with me.

  I find proof that seems to indicate that what is described in the Bible actually happened .....

  Yes, I think that many proofs are in how the analysis uses the data. They prove whatever they want to prove and ignore data that doesn't fit. That is not only the JW way, that is the way of science, religion, politics, debate.

  So in my mind i'm becoming an agnostic or maybe even atheist, but still the evidence that seems to be in favor of the bible story is really bugging me sometimes. How do you handle this? Do you just ignore it or give up because you realize you will never find concluding evidence either way and you choose what in your mind is the most reasonable?

  Same here, GBSJG. I feel like I am leaning toward atheism more and more, but I don't know if that is so. That makes us agnostics. I figure that the God of the New Testament is about forgiveness. If I live a good life, and never discover the exact way to worship him, he promises to forgive me. If the message of Christianity is even remotely accurate, God would not destroy billions of people because they were confused by all the religious ideas out there. Enjoy the search. I know that my JW experience causes me to avoid association with ANY organization. How could God hold that against me? Yes, I doubt the Bible is the word of God, but it might be. Yes, I am confident that Science has better explanations than religion about the origin of life and man, but maybe God used those methods. Who truly knows.

  My Mother's Funeral

  my mother had a beautiful ceremony.

  i was able to go to another church, sit there, and listen to the preacher/s without feeling guilty.

  my mother and sister had made previous preparations for her burial.

  Sorry to hear about your mother. I am happy that you saw a beautiful funeral arrangement.

  turned it over and wrote "zero tracts" below that, i wrote "stumbled by the co".

  Okay, I found it myself. I will look at it soon. Thanks for mentioning the Tort of Misrepresentation.
  Apparently, it is a document that show how the WTS misused or mislead with various quotes in it's
  efforts to ban blood transfusions. How did I not know this was out there? Anyway, I do now.
