  That is part of the problem here - I have had a brief glimpse at the various ideas projected by evolutionists, but am not fully versed to argue upon their own territory due to the language employed and conceptual models used, which to be honest, simply do not appeal to who I am and what I choose to believe.

  Amongst any so called " learned " people there can also be a degree of intellectual arrogance projected and you are fighting against a community that has its own interests to protect.

  Regarding 'an observation of change from one species to the next' - the hypothesis of gradual change over many thousands/millions of years excludes that kind of observable evidence. Which is rather convenient wouldn't you say They only tend to bring forth vague examples from what I have seen. I'd love to see a clear case myself. Seriously. My belief system is flexible enough to morph from one idea to the next if needs be.

  to succesfully argue you may be as right or wrong as any other person requires you to show both people are equally qualified to pass judgement on something

  I would say my " feelings " and insights gained through direct experience, are as qualified as I need to be in order to state my case. But, I know that will not be enough for you.

  ... and yes, concerning matters of eschatology, I may be as right or as wrong as you Tuvok.

  I believe I am - I do not think I said otherwise. Unless I was tripping.

  I was being sarcastic before btw - a belief in a supreme being / overmind / great spirit etc - summons forth paradoxical cunundroms continually. But for me, that is no problem, as wrestling with these apparent contradictions is all part of the exercise.

  Don't you ever get bored of these threads? It's obvious really isn't it: My Mom & Dad produced me .. I am me, I am not my Dad. A simple concept. Engage the brain and think for mercy's sake. Unless you choose to believe that GOD is everything and therefore, I am God, you are God and then Jesus would be God as well. Then we have the concept of all things being God, yet God having a transcendent higher mind.... oh wait, I can't be bothered.... bye

  received the nov 06 awake today and this article caught my attention.

  it is about masturbation and the evils of it.

  in a nutshell try to stop and think of other things deal with your guilt but don't let it overwhelm you.

  Probably help you with advice like:

  Read the Bible.

  Think of Jehovah when tempted or an angel looking over your shoulder.

  Go out for a brisk walk or take a cold shower.

  Dig the garden.

  etc

  ( just hope the advice isn't from sister pointy firm breasts or brother bulge )

  Fading: A Little Craziness Helps

  as you may know, i am a zealous advocate of using depression as a means of fading out of the organization.. let me add that a hint of craziness or mental illness can work wonders, too.

  instead of shunning you, your witness.

  relatives and "friends" may make quite an allowance for you, if you just keep your mouth shut about deep apostasy.. they may just feel sorry for you and leave you alone- at least, that's largely my experience.. remember that movie that said "love means never having to say you're sorry"?

  A brother I know, who speaks to me (being as he is disfellowshipped at the moment) feigned depression as an excuse to smoke pot in his loft. The elders knew about his habit for around a year and he played the "down & out" card with ease.

  He also avoided the elders most of the time, but they never disciplined him during that time period and unusually were quite supportive.

  Anyway, they finally sacked him at a very inappropriate moment. Just after his fathers funeral !!!!

  Very simple mathematical equations have shown very complex results.

  There is nothing " simple " about a fractal. The base maths at a human level may appear rather simplistic, but the results are incredibly beautiful, organized and complex. You aren't seeing the magic underpinning the human code which unlocks the puzzle.

  You never will - you were never meant to reach that level within the physical body.

  GOD at many levels is pure math

  Indeed, my spiritual experiences cannot easily be expressed through language and may be dismissed by the usual culprits as some kind of physical electro/chemical stimulation no doubt.

  I suppose in many ways I am a mystic - but hopefully rational enough not to fly off at abstract tangents too often.

  Regarding the apparent conjecture of my experience of a sentient force behind all " things " - I'd say so myself, but I'm not about to prove it via objective evidence. As with most spiritual experiences, there is a sense of " knowing " ...

  I do not always feel this way, but mostly, especially when connecting with the natural world.

  Who's giving out candy this Halloween?

  yeah, so this year, for the first time ever, ever, ever, my roommates and i are having a halloween party, and there will be much candy given out to the small army of children on our block who will no doubt be trick or treating.

  i'm really looking forward to it.

  has anyone ever thought of getting all costumed up on halloween and then hitting all of the elder's houses?

  Trick-or-treating is done in your own neighborhood and usually done in groups with parents. A time to take a walk with the parents, the older people love to see the little kids dressed up, and see some neighbors you may not see often. If you don't want to participate leave the outside light off. Simple.

  Thank God I live in the UK - at least we haven't totally sold our souls to the idiocy found within the US. Mind you, give it a year or two and no doubt the marketing men will have done their jobs well over here as well.

  ... and people wonder in the US why the Muslim world hate your society so much. It is so full of shit.
