Hello, uncertain. We're glad you stopped in. Regarding the community feeling you're after, be cautious in your idea that JWs have a strong and happy community. Unfortunately, it's not so happy. On the surface, especially to new ones, they appear so happy and loving and accepting (you'll come across the term "love-bombing" on this forum). It's like a beautifully wrapped gift with shiny, perfectly folded wrapping paper and a beutiful bow, but when you unwrap it, you find an empty box (at best).

The extent of subtle manipulation and control by the organization is often not apparent until you're already caught in the trap. Please be careful.

What sends you over the edge?

there was a recent thread on spelling, sentence structure, etc., that was legitimate, but probably made other's feel stupid.. my question is, what is your personal pet peeve?.

i've got a problem with poor construction inside my home...i hate the trim work, some cut too short so it looks like mouse holes over the floor.

i had my kitchen redone and the layout was so unusual that i can't open a fridge door unless i pull it forward or push it back to open a drawer.

Caligirl - you and Little Drummer Boy should talk about your food manners pet peeve. He is exactly like you in that manner. I must say though, our 9-year-old son already has better table manners than many adults I've eaten with.

she wore her new cross that i bot her for her 50th birthday to work.

an elder that works there [whom she rarely sees] saw her and eyed the jewelry.

we'll see how it goes - but she is expecting an invite to 'meet with the elders' now.

Only when I put quotes around the words, like you did in the title.

It's funny, I was just thinking about terminology I hate now that I'm out. Examples: the truth, new system of things, going out in the field (sounds like farm work to me), wicked system of things, anything that incorporates "system of things" in its name, meetings (can't call it church!), not-at-homes, return visit, "study" (as in a person with whom a JW is conducting a bible study. They're not a person, they get labeled a "study". "My study is coming to the memorial." ugh.)

BFD - Cats are inherently sneaky. Your bathtub comment will without a doubt be submitted to to CIA via CatCom tonight. Watch your back.

Wordly - I don't think our cats know the combo to the gun safe, but it is quite possible they are mounting an offensive to remove all our fingernails while we sleep, as payback for the front-paw declawing.

We have hypothesized that our cat is really a secret government agent who understands English completely, but just pretends that he doesn't around us. Wouldn't cats be perfect undercover spies? Everyone pets and feeds the cats, they purr in exchange for the care, and go off and take a bath, seemingly innocent. Yet secretly, they are listening to everything we say; they watch our every move. At night, when we're sound asleep, they relate the info to the CIA. Either the CIA can speak in "cat" or cats can really speak human languages.

Maybe your cat is building a communication device under the dining room table. You might want to check it out.

(And no, I am not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.)

There are always going to be some posters who annoy, antagonize, and anger others. These posters intend to illicit an emotional response and enjoy getting people upset. They make themselves known, they post on about every topic just to have an opinion about everything (usually negative); they like to plow through as quickly as possible, like a tornado, leaving behind negativity in their paths. They feel on top of the world, until one day, they cross the line. They make overtly inflammatory remarks, send nasty PMs to people that disagree with them, and before you know it, they get deleted from the forum.

I've seen it happen. When I see this type of poster come on board, I just try to stay out of the way, so that they arrive at their final destination more quickly. This type will always do themselves in, without any help from the rest of us. (In fact, there's a current, albeit newer, forum member who I feel is on this path. We'll see what happens.)

It is my personal opinion that his brain is still very muddied by the WT mind control. He needs to be deprogrammed, and that's what I think he's trying to accomplish here. OK, so he's annoying. I do believe that your mindset is still that of the WT's. Not that you believe the things the borg does, but that your thought patterns are like theirs. If you have noticed, a highly controversial topic can be discussed on this forum and wind up being 10 pages long. Some people get a little hot under the collar about their particular belief, but when the discussion has fizzled out, no one is worse for the wear. For example, in recent weeks, I have seen 2 separate threads about abortion on this forum. You can't get much more controversial than that. But the way the topics were presented was tactful and down to earth. They weren't written in a way to instigate an argument so that the thread maker could sit back and observe the word wars. The thread maker had a genuine interest in the topic, because it in some way directly affected them.

So your argument that people object to your threads because they are "controversial" is invalid. It's not the controversial nature of the topic. By the way, there have been dozens of threads about child abuse on this forum. Yours isn't the first, nor will it be the last. Given this information, you must agree that it is your approach to subjects that is offensive, not the subject itself. Are you with me?

I don't think anyone has been officially shunned, meaning they retain their right to post but everyone agrees to ignore them. However, do you remember Mad? He is a JW apologist (yes, he is, although he would say otherwise). Well he hasn't posted since May 9th.

Oh, crap, did I just jinx the forum now? If Mad starts posting again, it's my fault.

The elders serving whose interests?

the wts claims that the elders are an arrangement by jehovah to lovingly take care of his flock.

this is a typically misleading statement by the fds using the usual smooth talking and references to a divine connection to deceive the r&f.

neither the elders are jehovah's arrangement nor the jws are jehovah's flock.

The elders are in place as "big brother". Their purpose is to keep the "flock" in line. Of course they are to operate under the asssumption that the "sheep" are inherently immoral and without good judgement on their own. The only way for the sheep to retain Jehovah's approval is for "big brother" to cattle-prod anyone who looks like they might make any slight misstep. They aren't there to help anyone. They are simply glorified prison guards.
