Wow, momzcrazy. Your story on your profile is pretty interesting. It's exciting to celebrate the holidays for the first time as a non-dub. Last year was my husband's and my first Christmas as former dubs, and our son's very first Christmas at age 8. Good for you. Don't let your mom make you feel guilty about your decision to live a free life.

Why have things changed?
by nvrgnbk inaccording to the old testament, yahweh/jehovah regularly and violently made himself manifest.. according to the new testament, there were miraculous works performed to prove that the messiah was who he said he was and that his followers were authentic.. why are there no such public manifestations of jehovah/yahweh/jesus/holy spirit today?
i say public because some individuals describe very personal experiences detailing some sort of miracle or divine intervention in their lives, most often at a low or desperate point.
i have no interest in discounting such personal experiences.

nvr - I used to wonder that a lot, even as a dub. I never could reconcile in my head how the god of the OT was the same as the one of the NT. I never allowed myself to really question that as a dub, but it always bugged me that murder by god or through one of 'his people' was OK in the OT, or how Solomon could get away with having a bazillion wives, etc.
One of my major hangups about the existance of god is exactly what you posted: Why the heck does he have to be so secretive, distant, and non-communicative now, when he used to just literally SAY what he wanted in the OT? If he loves humans and really wants the best for us, why does he make it so hard for humans as a whole to believe in him, understand what he wants of us, or to have faith in his powers, etc.?
Hence the unanswerable question: Does he exist? Did he ever exist? I'm not really searching for that answer. If it is something "god" wants me to know, he'll have to find a way to get my attention and make it crystal clear to me.

I think he'd wear a wife-beater t-shirt and demand that we get him a beer and make him a sandwich, then beat the crap out of us for putting too much mustard on it. Afterward, he would explain that it was a lesson of his "love" for us, and that he forgave us for our mistake-just as long as we don't do it again.
OK, sorry. That was cynical. I'm in sort of a bad mood today.

I like jewelry, hand-made crafts, warm fuzzy socks, bubble bath, paintings, photography, music, anything. I'm not picky at all. I really would like ANYTHING (except JW literature). I like surprizes!

When YOU went out in the field service.....
by JH inwhen you used to go in the field service, did you go out to have 2 more hours on your report, or did you really want to save somebody's life by preaching a message of salvation ?

If there wouldn't have been any hours to report, I would have probably went out less often
If there wouldn't have been any hours to report, I would have NEVER gone out. I hated "field service" with a passion. I even hate the term "field service". I always felt service was futile. I knew how many countless hours people put in service in our territory week after week, year after year, and for what? Maybe one new person every year or two. Maybe. What a waste. Field service is a 'snare and a racket'.

Oh, come on. Everyone knows there's more than corn in Indiana.
As JK666 said, there's soybeans too. And hay fields. And it's really fun when you're driving over the top of a "steep" hill and your tummy gets a little fluttery (we Hoosiers aren't used to altitude changes, even small ones.)

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?
by knock knock ini haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?
to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).
i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

SAW - where he SAWED off his leg at the end. Actually, that whole movie was disturbing. Not because of blood and gore, but the evil manipulation and mental torture the two men endured. I wish I never saw SAW.

How far away was your Kingdom Hall ?
by JH ini had to drive 20 km or 12.5 miles round trip to go to a meeting........after so many years, that adds up !!

We walked 50 miles one way, uphill both ways, through a crocodile infested river, used our books to fight off robbers, often got ill with Malaria from the mosquito infested swamps we waded through; hard to keep our clothes clean and WT's dry through that, but "Jehovah" helped us. And by the way, we never missed one meeting. Ever.
Oh, wait, that was an experience they gloated about at a DC a few years ago. (Not really, but not too far from the truth!). No, we drove about 10 to 12 miles one way. All the wasted gas, time...ugh.

For those of you who don't go to meetings anymore...
by exwitless inwhen you attended your last meeting ever as a dub, did you know it was your last?
did something happen which made it clear in your mind you were 'never going back' (not to be confused with nvrgnbk)?.
the last meeting we went to was the memorial in 2006. we only went because we knew we were already pegged for the elders' unwanted attention, so we had to go to keep them off our backs a little longer.

Wow, thanks, guys. I really enjoyed reading your stories. It makes me sick, though, some of the horrible hateful things said. The submarine comment would've struck a raw nerve with me for sure.
It was surprizing how creepy the Memorial was (in 2006, my last meeting). It was the first and only meeting I attended after I was already convinced I was done with dubdom. It was just weird, depressing, boring, demoralizing, and sickening. When we exited the KH, I literally had those 'creeped out' chills run down my back. It was like waking up from a bad dream that kinda makes you feel uneasy for awhile.
