for DrivesLikeJehu - Child Baptism
by Prisca indlj .
what i think mommy/wendy (her real name) is getting at is this :.
getting married is a serious decision that will affect you for the rest of your life.

Arrrgh! I'm being double teamed!hehe Wow, I'm glad I scrolled down farther today. I wouldn't have seen this thread!hehe
I understand what you two are getting at now. The funny thing is, my parents didn't really do much to pressure me to get baptized. They didn't bug me with 'Everyone else your age is getting dunked, why don't you?' They were really good about that. It was more of 'When you think you're ready to get baptized...' I will admit that looking back, I prolly was a bit young to get baptized. That's why I didn't bug my friends about it either. When they're ready to dedicate themselves to Jehovah(not the organization), they're ready. No one else can decide it for them.
I wasn't saying that baptism helped keep me out of trouble, I meant that Bible principles helped me. I have some friends in my hall that aren't baptized, and they stay out of trouble the same way.
It's tough to be a Witness, Mommy, I agree with you. But IMHO, it's more than worth it. I just don't see anything worth having outside of Jehovah's organization(there's me sounding hollow again!). Btw, I'm in school for computer info systems. I'm almost a junior. -

Hi Mommy!
You dedicated yourLIFE to Jehovah at the tender age of 12?
Uh-huh.Did your parents think it was ok for you to be married at this time as well? Able to take on the emotional, financial burden associated with it too?
No, baptism and marriage are quite different. I'll admit there are some emotional burdens, but what financial burdens are there? I spend much less money than if I smoked or did drugs, for example. I look at Bible principles as a protection from the troubles that I see other youths getting into. Recently, a fellow I went to high school with was sent to jail for a cross burning. Another one had a short jail term for helping to steal firearms from a friend's father and sell them in another state. It's my humble opinion that Bible principles help keep me out of situations like those.
But back OT...yes, my parents respected my decision to serve Jehovah for life, and are proud that I have lived up to that commitment thus far(As am I. it's been a tough, but worthwhile road.). And as for real marriage, no. I'm still single. I'm in college right now(yeah, yeah, I know about that issue too), and I want to wait until I'm done.I bet you had the other little 12 year olds lined up waiting to get married too didn't you?
You meant 'baptized,' right? Actually, no. Most were baptized before I was, and are still doing quite well. One is now serving in the Dominican Republic(she had to learn Spanish.hehe), and her older brother is now a reg. pioneer. And if you meant real marriage, I didn't even know what the legal age for marriage was back then.heheI guess I just come here because I feel like talking sometimes. That's all.

Okay, I guess I'll finally go.
I was born in 1980, and raised in the organization. Amazingly, my parents became witnesses in 1975(yeah, yeah, I know about all the hooplah that year). Dad's been an elder for quite a while, now. He's the po for the cong, and the co for the city we live in. Mom's been a reg. pioneer since um...'87, I think. I keep forgetting. Grrr. No other relatives are witnesses, but when my grandmothers come to visit, they still go to the meetings with us(haven't been here in a while, though).
I dedicated my life to Jehovah by water baptism in 1992(Halloween, no less!), and was appointed as a ministerial servant in 1998. Right now, I've been handling the sound system operation and the accounts(temporarily). The elders tell me how much they appreciate the work I do, and that means a lot coming from them. Sometimes, I thought they just tolerated me because I was 'The PO's son.'hehe I've even gotten to conduct the bookstudy(it's held at our home) a couple of times, while my dad was out of town. Yep, still active too. Stop laughing at me![8>] Hoping to give my first symposium talk soon. -

Hi Mom.
I just thought I'd answer your questions, since I think about this when I'm at work and school.
Isn't it kinda weird to think "all" us nice people are going to die?
It's very weird. That's why I don't.:DDo you think Jesus would turn his back on us?
Nope, not at all. Jesus knows our heart condition, and will judge us accordingly.Hey Grunt, I never really thought about sharing my thoughts all that much, because I'm pretty shy. Not a 'programming' or 'mind conrol of the Borg,' but that's just the way I am. I hate beiung the center of attention too. I didn't even want a high school graduation party!hehe I'm always worried about offending others, and I tend to err on the side of caution and keep my big mouth shut.hehe I'll try to work on it, though.

On the other side of the coin, I want to thank you guys for being tolerant of me.hehe I know that since we might not see eye to eye on everything, that there could be the potential for animosity. But you're all to be commended for not letting it happen. Thanks for making me feel welcome...and for not making fun of me just because I'm still active.

Shouldn't you be in the Sunday morning meeting by now, Fred? Any good jw will be there half hour early to greet and stay a half hour late to visit before spending 2.0 hours out in field service. Make sure your shoes are shined and WT underlined.
Sorry waiting, my meeting is at 12:30 this year. I went out in service before that. We even went out to eat with the guest speaker after the meeting. I don't get to do it too often, because usually I have to work. Had a great time.

There's a few cases of this in my hall, too. One of my best friends has a father that just never got into the truth. But everyone in the knows the family so well, they make sure to invite the father too, which I think is pretty good. I especially liked it when my friend and I shared a graduation party(even though we both hated all the attention), and we got to spend a lot of time together setting up.
Another good friend I have moved here last summer, and we hit it off pretty quick. We had lots of hobbies in tastes in common. After a while, I got to meet her dad, who is inactive. Really nice guy. We ate dinner, and we talked about cool recipies we'd like to try, among other things. I don't know if the father will come back or not, but hey;Now I've got another cool 'rent(teen slang for 'parent.' I hope you appreciate the space I saved by using this abbreviation!lol) to talk to.
Those two cases helped me get better about that, because sometimes it might be hard to remember the people that could especially use some encouragement at a social gathering. If I ever get one together, I'm gona say "Forget all the strong kids! They can stay home and watch tv. All the ones that need encouragement can come over and eat my food!"

What should the WTBS do?!?!
by LDH inwell guys sorry i haven't participated much lately, i've been really busy.
but, i do have a question that i would really appreciate all of your input on.. it is no secret that young people are leaving jws faster and faster.
it is no secret that most jws are disappointed, and hurt by lack of prophecy fulfillment.. so here's what i was thinking: i'm going to post some very personal thoughts on what *i* think they need to do in order to stop the loss of almost 50,000 disfellowshipped and probably 4x that to inactivity.

Hey Englishman, nothing wrong with off-topic!
One of my MS buddies in the hall had a RepliCobra built for him, and spent a fortune on it. Here, the basic kit(minus the engine and late-model Ford Mustang frame) is about $40k, US. He also proceeded to go through two built engines, which I'd estimate at around $10k each. The current engine he's running uses 107 octane racing gas, which is quite expensive and is sold quite a distance from his home. Such a practical vehicle. And to top it off, the interior is very cramped, so he can barely fit inside.
Oh, and hey Larc: Call it a joke.hehe
