Kingdom Hall Interiors
by TheMan inso i drove by my old kingdom hall the other day and noticed that it had a for sale sign in front of it.
this came as no surprise to me, as i knew that they recently won approval to build a new kingdom hall in a neighboring town.
(caused a bit of a stir in town - but that's a different story).

Interesting comment about the windows... Yeah, the only reason this one has windows is because the KH was originally built in the 50's. The ones built inthe 50's & 60's had windows. Notice the main auditorium has no windows - that was added on in the 80's when the entire building was renovated after it was set on fire by arsonists - no lie. It still boggles my mind that they're selling this hall (with no mortgage) off to build a new one.

So I drove by my old kingdom hall the other day and noticed that it had a for sale sign in front of it. This came as no surprise to me, as I knew that they recently won approval to build a new kingdom hall in a neighboring town. (Caused a bit of a stir in town - but that's a different story). Anyway, I was curious as to how much it was going for, so I went online and found the listing! The listing had quite a few photos, and it reminded me of just how drab looking it was inside. Actually, I've been in kingdom halls that looked far worse - I just wonder who was responsible for bright orange chairs on green carpet in the second classroom! Although drab looking, it's still in very good condition - yet it's being sold because the "brothers" are turning a profit, and it gives business to the RBC. Talk about perpetuating urban sprawl... Anyway, I posted the listing's link to the pics for everyone to take a look...How does this kingdom look compared to the one you attended, or attend now? Yeah, as fresh 18 year old, i actually confessed, but that wasn't good enought. At the meeting, they wanted every juicy tidbit, and it was then that I started holding back - not on the "sin," but because I really didn't feel like sharing all those details. There was not need - I confessed!!! They then, at the next mtg, tried to call me on some of the details, and get me to reexplain - and then held that against me.

E-Watchman - where are all the Kingdom Hall mailboxes?

back in the spring of 2004, e-watchman launched a massive mailing campaign of an open letter to jehovahs witnesses and the watchtower society; laying bare the facts regarding the watchtowers ten-year partnership with the united nations as an affiliated ngo.
with the help of a private printing and distribution company the letter was mailed to virtually every kingdom hall in the united states and canada, as well as some congregations in australia and great britain, amounting to over 7,000 letters.

I don't know of any directive from the society, but there are many KH's out there that still have mailboxes.
I could definitely see the mailing of "apostate" material as being a reason for the removal of the mailboxes. Most of the "important" mail, ie. letters from the society, boxes of magazines and literature, etc. are mailed to certain brother's home addresses, so some congregations may not have a need for the mailbox at the hall. I see this as being the trend....

. Report Card = Report Farce

still i guessed at my hours based on a last minute tot up in the hall, and of course... i never rounded down.
i cant be the only one that did this, infact i know i wasnt.

You're almost encouraged to fake it. When I was a MS, elders would approach me and say, "You know brother, the only reason we haven't given you Public Talk privelege is because there was that one month you were below five hours....Think about it, did you really only do five hours that month? I'm sure you did more than than..."
Earlier this year, when my wife and I were still attending meetings, we were approach by brother hounder and constantly asked "are you sure you didn't put in any hours? Can't you think of any time you may have put in, even informally?" Like they want you to lie about the hours so they can justify having me on the rolls as a MS!!, and it's one less thing they have to worry about....

Did you really want to have "Privileges"
by JH ini don't know about others here, but i couldn't care less about privileges.. i had a couple of privileges, but i really didn't want to get too deep in the org and get too many privileges.
i didn't want to get tied down with that, and have to leave 30 minutes later every meeting, or have to spend an extra hour or two preparing for something.. .
all that counted for me as a dub was "paradise" and "eternal life" .

Yeah, same here, growing up in the org and being desperate for attention and approval, I "reached out" for as many as I could get. Even after I was disfellowshipped and subsequently reinstated, I felt that my "reaching out" would help me gain favor in everyone's eyes. It was once I got the actual responsibilities, especially after being a MS and not receiving the support I needed from the other brothers and elders, that they became very burdensome. After a while, even though I tried very hard, they were more like chores. I was considered a good speaker, but I hated using my evenings to write those talks.
Later, as I started to see through the org, the people, and the teachings, it all became pointless, and I saw those responsibilities as vanity. Now as I think about it, it's all so silly. Why did I think being a mic handler was special? Why can't anyone, including the sisters, help out with literature, etc.? Why does the org make these simple volunteer tasks into "positions?" It's all so silly.
